Underworld: Evolution (2006)
Sans expectations...I thought it blew...
If you're a fan of the series, I apologize, but I went into the movie having seen the previous one but having no expectations other than, "eh, nothing else going on tonight..." That being said: I thought it was pretty bad.
I dunno, the first one was a spot of cheese itself, but this one took the cake. Like they had armour circa 1200 AD or something like that...except it was designed like there were freakin' elves working on the stuff - pretty, fantasy design, completely impractical. Or the fact that the "sex scene" everyone seems so excited about, I guess they decided there was no where else to stick it in (no pun intended, kiddos), so they found a random spot in the movie to say, "hey, let's go to it." Considering at the time, they were still "on the run" from something, it seemed a tad contrived. And those stupid contacts? Or the way...no...no, I'm going to actively stop. It's a good "background" movie to be playing while you're doing something else...like not paying attention to it.
Oh, and Bill Nighy, the guy who played the dad in Shaun of the Dead, he's the ex-head of the vampires, and wow, what a stinker - he acts as his zombie self (don't say that! say what? the zed word...) in Shaun of the Dead, except trying to deliver lines. Dreadful. And when the lycans turn, it's like something out of those old school claymation monster movies.
Notice I'm being nice and not even going after the actual story line which at times seems to ask for a complete suspension of common sense. Not only do they break the "Show, Don't Tell" policy on many occasions, but in other aspects, they seem to completely blow off otherwise very important information, assuming (I assume) that the audience will quickly forget and move on if they have some big explosion or maybe a cleverly bewildering boob shot...wait, what was I talking about? Now see, I tried to stop...and it just...it upsets me more and more when I think about it. If you're just craving something generic with vampires and werewolves, um, here's your movie. I'm going to go sulk.
The Atomic Space Bug (1999)
How Great!
A great movie in one of my favourite genres, Parisen really captures the Ed Wood feel. I was pleased to see Conrad Brooks although the whole cast made the feel of the movie classic. In particular, I thought the space bug costume was great for the movie and some of the scenes were particular inventive. I can't wait to see more!
