Missed opportunity
2 February 2024
This series offers some interesting things to think about but, it seems the professor's train of thought is all over the place. The same few films from more recent years are used from episode to episode, over and over as examples of what his point is. There are so many other films from the classic era that could have been used instead of so many repeat of contemporary films.

I does contain some interesting insights as to what might create a successful screenplay.

The video image of some of the clips at times has a strobing effect that was a bit off-putting.

I so wanted to love this series but it leaves me a bit flat.

I feel it was a missed opportunity to mine the wealth of film material from the past.

I've seen 5 of the 6 episodes so far.

Informative but irritating!
20 August 2023
Loving the Sierras the way that I do I ordered up this film after hearing about it. While I enjoyed the information and history that was shared I found the presentation mostly not to my liking. It's very fast paced, more like a short YouTube video, cramming in much information that is hard to catch. The type of music accompaning this and many contemporary films is very off-putting. The pounding rock music completely ruins the beauty and majesty of the scenery and has no connection for me to the feeling of being amongst those mountains. It actually frustrated me. Not what a film about this place should do.

Sadly director and hiker Chris Smead lived up to his stated reputation of being quite irritating.

I love the Sierras and have hiked many trails but unfortunately I did not like this film.

Sacrilege!

Beautiful photography is completely spoiled by the inane and rather vulgar dialogue between the animals and embarrassing narration spoken by Helen Mirren. I wish I could have given it 0 stars. Just horrible!!!
