Gotham Knights: Dark Knight of the Soul (2023)
Knocking a star off for scaring me like that!
Wow, I did not see that coming. At various points I gasped or screamed out loud (Lincoln taking off his mask - kidnappers don't do that unless they're going to kill the hostage, Turner's throat being cut WAAAATT?)
Oscar did a great job here, these seeds of doubt may well grow... are we going to have him become a villian? A Two-Face/Turner partnership could be truly something in this Gotham.
Duela. Oh she's so cute when she cares. She'd stab me for saying that but oh well. Awesome costume for the confrontation, I love how she was playing with the strings constantly.
Carrie is gonna struggle with that decision for quite a while isn't she?
Harper and Stephanie, Cullen sees what we have been seeing :) something is there, is it one sided? Only time will tell.
Harvey... we're gonna get two-face very soon... I reckon next ep is where it will happen. Amazing performance from Misha there, Fugue Harvey is clearly a totally different character from the Harvey we've come to know and love. I can't wait to see more of it.
Gotham Knights: Belly of the Beast (2023)
Turner is his father's son
So, Bruce definitely raised Turner in his image, even if Turner didn't know he was Batman... His choice to save Cressida may not make sense to many but it does to me, for years she's been the closest thing he has to a mother, and she has answers to questions he wants answering. I just wish he hadn't gotten himself caught over it.
I suspect a lot of the Court don't know the other members true identities, the masks seem to stay on ALL the time they are together: wearing them on approach and the whole time they're there?
The reveal of the 'leader' being Lincoln was only a slight surprise, I recognised him around the mask, I'm just a bit baffled as to why the Talon stabbed him. Bit extreme to kebab the guy just to throw suspicion off him as being a member... looking forward to seeing how that progresses.
Poor Harvey. Misha's got that confusion down amazingly well, he's getting more panicked each time he wakes up from a Fugue Harvey episode, it's time to go back to the doctor Harvey! I wish he would, but story wise I know he won't... Two-Face cannot be far away (my bet is ep 10)
Duela's reaction to Turner being captured was amazing, the girl who cares about nobody was suddenly ready to run headlong into danger for the 'Batbrat'. Maybe Duela is finally learning to get close to someone... love? Maybe, maybe not. Could just be that he's the first to ever 'come back for her' after the save in episode 3.
Stephanie's storyline is breaking my heart, talk about gaslighting the poor girl! How is it okay to be using your daughter's name on painkiller prescriptions?? Dad, sort yourself out, Gotham celebrity or not, you can't let this happen. I worry for Stephanie's safety, the damage her mother caused when she took the pills... she's not in her right mind.
More please, stop taking week-long breaks, you're killing us!
Gotham Knights: Bad to Be Good (2023)
This show is full of nutcases! I suppose it *IS* Gotham...
Sweet little old lady psycho... Eunice is unhinged! I mean so is Duela but wow, didn't see that coming at all!
The one thing they didn't do to check the painting they stole was take it apart or burn it.
I'm concerned about Harvey falling in love with Rebecca. I don't trust her. She seems *too* sincere if that makes sense? She might be the straw that breaks the seal between our Harvey and the dark side within... Or is she going to be the one to throw the acid? For God's sake Harvey, do not tell her about the DID!
I like Harper finally warming up to Stephanie... don't judge a book by it's cover girl, she's got a harder life than you can imagine!
The discovery of the Court of Owls party photos was intriguing... they're all wearing masks in it - do any of the members even know who the others are?
Give me more, I wish this show had dropped all at once, the week-to-week is killing me!
Gotham Knights: A Chill in Gotham (2023)
It's time to raise a little hell (sorry)
There aren't many actors/characters who can be on screen for only a single episode and leave such a lasting impact - Doug Bradley does it, original hellraiser, has the proper presence to pull off Joe Chill, proclaiming his innocence.
While there were other great scenes with Duela and other characters, the main focus this ep is Turner, backed up by Harvey. Doug seems to be trying to almost convince Turner to give up and not end up behind bars for 50 years like him... I don't like what that implies. Turner is more determined than ever to clear his name and take down the Court of Owls.
Stephanie got a reality check about how dangerous her friends lives are when she went full vigilante and came within an inch of her life, saved by Harper (there's something brewing there, I'm sure of it!).
The episode peaks with the 'assassination' of Lincoln March. Harvey definitely blacked out again there, the Talon can't vanish into thin air... is he the one holding the music trigger? Who knows! All we know is, the Talon... failed? Lincoln lived? Hmmm... I wish I'd paid more attention to that.
This cast are my favourite in a long time, there's no one I can pull out as my favourite character (Misha will always hold a special place in my heart and his Harvey is totally breaking my heart). They're all amazing, they're going to go far in this business.
Gotham Knights: More Money, More Problems (2023)
Stand tall, GK, this is where your story begins
Wow this show is starting to gain traction. We learned more about Harper this week, and secrets she's kept from Cullen, showing her protective side more. The lengths she'll go to protecting him, getting him what he needs is lovely, hopefully now they'll start communicating more and she'll see what he's capable of!
Duella's little talk to Turner gave me goosebumps, I love her to bits as a character, but I wouldn't trust her further than I could kick her and her statement that when "you have noone left to trust you learn to trust yourself". She doesn't trust them, and will turn on them to survive if she has to...
More depth to Stephanie's story, I have a horrible feeling she may find her mother dead on that couch one of these days :( my heart breaks for her.
Carrie is only 15? If her mother finds out the truth that is NOT going to go well. Are all these kids 15? I'd have thought 17-18...
And finally there's Harvey. The glimpse of a traumatic childhood, the fear of what's happening to him. I'm dying to see how this all plays out, the slow descent to becoming Two=-Face has definitely begun. My theory is that the Court of Owls has some kind of hypnosis trigger to bring that side of him out, controlling him using that music. Either that or Rebecca holds that trigger... either way, they're controlling the release of 'Fugue Harvey', it's not involuntary. Could get interesting as the campaign ramps up, what if someone plays that song in public?
I can't wait to see Misha actually play the bad side, so far it's all happening off camera, we only get to see the real Harvey struggling to understand what the hell is happening.
Gotham Knights: Of Butchers and Betrayals (2023)
Woah, woah woah WHAT?
Woah I did not see that coming... the Talon is not a title but the SAME GUY been around more than a century??
Wow... this is fascinating. I want to know the faces behind these masks. I bet we've seen at least one of them before...
I was screaming at Turner not to go home... Cressida already showed herself to us as untrustworthy, but to lose the closest thing to family he had left... my heart broke for him. He's nailed the single man tear looking-good-while-crying thing already.
Duella is as delightfully deranged as ever, bonding with the daughter of the psycho killer... right up until she was out weirded!
I'm looking forward to watching the friendships and dynamics of the group changing as they get to know each other. Cullen and Stephanie bonding over shared childhood trauma despite their very different backgrounds was a high point, maybe he can make Harper see that money doesn't solve everything?
Harvey... what can I say? Misha at his best, saying little with his mouth and everything with his face.... we're starting to see those cracks forming, little glimpses that he's not always the one in control... and I love the cinematography they're doing on him keeping one half of his face in shadow a lot... Jennifer May Nickel has done an amazing job of putting Harvey and Two Face hints into his costumes too.
Love this show, renew it already!!
Gotham Knights: Under Pressure (2023)
Now we're cookin' with charcoal!
The show is starting to find it's feet!
Actions have consequences, even when that action seems to be good... what's that old Pratchett quote "A good man in a corrupt world or a corrupt man in a good world, the equation comes out the same"?
There is so much corruption and bad - the core of Gotham is rotten, so good deeds often have unintended bad outcomes.
Robin gets to know this, taking down the bad guy who robbed her of her family, and it results in a siege that their little gang go in and foil. It's awesome seeing their dynamic settling down with 3 becoming 6 since the first episode (Turner, Robin and Stephanie joining Cullen, Harper and Duella)
There's still a lot to figure out, but now we look like we have a clear path: a key figure is gone, and another is rising to fill his shoes, and we know this is not going to end well...
Gotham Knights: Scene of the Crime (2023)
Duella gonna learn!
This episode was fun, and starts setting up the dynamic that these guys need to stick together to survive.
I loved Cullen's speech about clearing his name because it's his d*amned name that he's worked hard to have. I love Robin saving the day...
Duella going off alone and almost getting herself killed will hopefully be a wakeup call that there's safety in numbers, and these guys will help her. She's quite closed off and still very much out for herself, so I'm looking forward to her starting to open up, at least a tiny bit!
Great fight scene, kind of shows how out of their depth these kids are at this point.
I'm very much looking forward to seeing where this goes.
Gotham Knights: Pilot (2023)
A promising start to a different Gotham show
I'm not a big fan of the DC universe, but I did enjoy Gotham, and I do like Misha Collins so I gave it a try.
As someone who doesn't know much about the Batman universe, the only character I recognise is Harvey Dent, however I'm not lost, the characters are being introduced to a new audience and there's a good chance a lot of them are OG rather than lifted from the Batman-verse.
I love that they've changed Robin from boy to girl, and there's trans representation on the show. Neither things have been made into a big deal, they're treated like it's completely normal and not really drawing attention, just like it should be! The young cast have great chemistry and a great grasp on what their characters core values are, I can't even pick a favourite, they're all good.
I can tell it's going to be a slow burn... who doesn't want to watch a good man descend into madness and become a villian? After the Joker movie it's nice to see another villian front and centre, since most of the villians in Batman-verse appear to go bad due to some kind of mental illness, I like to see how they ended up that way.
Gotham Knights (2023)
Come for your favourite, stay for the new talent
I'm not going to lie, I watched this soley because of Misha, and all the promo work done by him, Natalie and others involved in the show had my interest properly spiked.
However, this young cast show serious promise of being a dream ensemble that feels natural and I can see them developing a strong bond. They are all distinct characters already and I look forward to seeing where they go with the Knights of Gotham, and what role Harvey will take - is he for them, helping them or is he going after them? Both?
Harvey Dent is the only canonical character I know of in here, I'm not a die-hard DC fan having never really watched the films, but I did enjoy Gotham a few years back. I look forward to seeing Natalie's unique take on this world, a world with a power vaccuum that will be difficult to fill.
With the pilot one scene really stood out and that was the questioning of Cullen. No spoilers, people who have seen know what I'm talking about. The way it is handled, like it's no big deal and just a natural way of speaking and defending someone... it's masterful. Much like Willow and Tara's first kiss on Buffy all those years ago: don't make a big deal, just slide it into the episode and treat it like it's normal!
I can't wait for the next episodes, keep up the good work and for the love of all thats good in this world - give it a chance to properly find it's audience, don't cancel it after a single season and end up with a Firefly situation - treat the show right!!
