Global Heresy (2002)
Fun, with the right mixture of laughs and great music ...
This film is not Academy Award material, but then, it's not supposed to be. What it IS, is a delightful story about interesting, funny characters who end up being more human and dimensional than you think they will be.
Peter O'Toole and Joan Plowright steal many scenes at Lord and Lady Foxley, while Keram Malicki-Sanchez shines as the band's conflicted guitarist, Flit. Sanchez is an extremely talented musician and songwriter in his own right, and he gives Flit life with his seemingly boundless energy and expressive features. (His eyes alone speak volumes!)
I highly recommend this film to anyone who wants to relax and watch a bit of lighthearted fun.
Firefly (2002)
A great show with lots of promise ...
"Firefly" did start out a bit weak, mostly because Fox didn't air the original pilot as the first episode. However, the show has overcome this and obstacles to become one of the best genre offerings on TV at the moment.
The characters are being well-developed and are brought to life by an extremely talented cast of actors. There's mystery, comedy, suspense, action and romance all rolled into one. This show is well worth catching.
Farscape (1999)
The best show on television!!
I have been a scifi fan since watching Battlestar Galactica as a small child. I've watched many great shows over the years--Quantum Leap, all the Star Treks, Sliders, Prey, Buffy, Stargate SG-1, and many, many more. NEVER have I been so hooked on a show!
The characters are unique, complex, realistic and extremely well-written. Each character is brought to vivid life and has his or her own distinct, unique personality and flaws--even the puppets and the ships themselves!
The actors are incredibly talented and manage to do their roles justice. They make these characters come to life, and transform them into people you can love, hate, fear, root for and scream at. You ache for D'Argo as he loses love--and his son--once again. You understand Chiana's need to rebel, and her fear of being mindcleansed and turned into a good, "normal" member of society. You recognize Aeryn's inner battle against her upbringing and fear of intimacy as she slowly opens up her heart to this motley group. You want to sympathize with Crais, whose entire life has been turned upside down, even as you wish that you could tell the other characters not to trust him, because you just KNOW that he's up to no good. And, of course, there's John. It's impossible not to feel for this person who's been taken away from everything and everyone he's ever know and ben thrust into an unfamiliar world surrounded by less-than-friendly strangers. He's made friends, fallen in love, and seen amazing things--and yet, in many ways he's still alone.
The writing is brilliant--the stories are exciting, moving and keep you on the edge of your seat. Although the settings are otherworldly, many of the situations the crew faces are, really, things we can all relate to. The characters and stories have been developed with great care and attention to detail.
The sets, costumes and makeup are incredible--the best I have ever seen.
Anyone who is looking for an intelligent, well-written series with full, rich and real characters should give this show a chance!! Even if you're not a scifi fan, Farscape is worth checking out.
