Stand by Me (1986)
10/10
One of the Greatest Stephen King Movies Ever Made
25 July 2023
*Stand By Me is a movie that is best not to see before the age of fourteen.* Stand By Me is, with out a doubt, a classic. It has been parodied and referenced in all sorts of shows including Stranger Things and Family Guy. The music is classic and has a terrific score. "Stand By Me" by Ben E. King is a great song that wraps the movie up in bow. It is an incredibly well-made, character-driven, story. The acting is superb. The characters are foul-mouthed just like kids their age would be, which makes the story more realistic. The great cast coupled with everything else make this one of the greatest movies ever made.

A Poignant Tragedy

*This movie is best for people who have already learned about the Holocaust in school. Without that knowledge, the movie doesn't have as much impact*

The Boy in the Striped Pajamas is an emotional tale of the Holocaust told through the eyes of an eight-year-old boy who is the son of a commandant. It is a powerful movie with each scene having importance and adding to the overall story and message. It is important to note that the move is a fictional story "The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas" by John Boyne that could never have actually happened. The curiosity and impressionability of the young child are noticable in the story and make it feel more believable to members of the audience who aren't historians. A child living at the time is most likely not going to understand the horrors of the Holocaust the same way the audience might. The adults around him underestimate how observant a child can be. It shows how discrimination isn't something that comes instinctually, but it is rather something that is learned. The movie does an incredible job of making the point that discrimination is not natural. It remains gripping throughout with a powerful ending. It's music score composed by James Horner makes the movie all the better. My biggest complaint was how the characters all have British accents as opposed to German accents. Overall, it is an incredible film which I recommend to everyone.

The Big Hit (1998)
8/10
Over-the-Top Movie Packed with Thrills and Laughs
23 July 2023
*I would like to warn people before they watch this movie that it contains stereotypes. For any people offended by Hispanic and Jewish stereotypes, I advise to avoid watching this movie* **I would recommend that people watching this be at least 14 or 15 years old** From start to finish, this movie was wildly entertaining! The music plus the cinematography made it all the better. They worked so well with the rest of the film to make it funnier and more ridiculous. The acting was great! It is a movie that you can enjoy even when you're tired. It can pick you up after a rough day. It's goal seems to be to be solely fun! It is definitely one of the funniest movies I've seen. The movie is definitely worth watching. I highly recommend it, especially to fans of action movies! It has the styles of 80s action movies and 80s comedies mixed together with with amazing songs such as "I'm the Man" perfomed by Buck-O-Nine to deliver a fantastic cinematic experience!

A Poor Attempt at Sympathy for the Devil
23 July 2023
The characters were poorly written and acted. The actors didn't know how to act. The characters were not believable. It was a pretentious attempt at making a WWII version of "All Quiet on the Western Front". At first I thought it would be decent, but it dragged. It wouldn't end. Watching it was a chore. I was relieved when it was over. I wish the characters would speak their native languages instead of English. This was all the more noticeable with lack of even the slightest attempt at giving the characters German and Russian accents. Instead they spoke with English and American accents. It was lazy! The movie was uninspired. Lots of boring conversation with very little action. It is so bad I have given it the nickname "None Loud off an Eastern Back".

Take my advice: don't waste your time with this one.
