Drive (2011)
"DRIVE" has a few flat tires
Obviously, this is a polarizing movie. People either love it or hate it. My biggest problems were 1. I didn't believe that Lilly white girl would be with a Chicano criminal serving time 2. I also didn't believe she would fall in love with Gosling's character after a 5 min picnic date. 3. I didn't believe Gosling's character would help this criminal husband after he told Gosling to stay away from his wife and child. 4. I didn't believe Gosling pulls off a job in some joint that happened to be connected to Albert Brookes' storyline. 5. My biggest problem is why this Lilly white girl would slap Gosling when Gosling offers her the money. I mean, she was married to a criminal,Gosling is trying to save her life and she has no means to survive. OK,slap Gosling. 6. And finally; WHY LEAVE THE MILLION DOLLARS? Gosling is fleeing L.A. he also is motivated by money (hence his getaway work) Albert Brookea tried killing Gosling after he agreed to drop any beef if the money was returned. And I'd still like to know how Gosling survived that 10inch blade stuck into his stomach.
The 9th Circle (2008)
Twisted Mind
The 9th circle by Damien Leone is a twisted adaption of Dante's Inferno, where an innocent girl gets caught off guard and knocked unconscious by a demented clown. She awakens to find herself in a hellish (or Hell?) situation, where she is to serve as Satan's sacrifice. Demonic creatures approach her, before she escapes for the time being, only to be caught again. Why she is picked is unknown, but that's what makes it so disturbing,it's a nightmare that all women have in today's times where this sort of thing can happen to anyone. Filmed on location in the bowels of a Staten Island insane asylum, this horror short is scary, weird and disturbing. Cinematographer Tom Agnello shines as well. A must see for fans of fatalistic vis
The Simian Line (2000)
Hackish
One word describes this awful, boring and unmoving film- "hackish." The director explained at the Hamptons film festival that the movie took only twelve days to make. What is that,an excuse? The only thing that matters is if the movie is good or bad. 100 million dollar movies can bore, and so can lackluster tripe like this. And this one stinks on ice. Why? When you take a sappy uneven script, and cast lifeless has beens such as William Hurt (who looks like he was sleeping) and Harry (I can't get anymore work) Connick jr.And shoddy, second rate camera and directional work, you have The Simian line. (about the only saving grace was a nude scene featuring Cindy Crawford.) And by the way, what kind of title is The Simian line? Not one of the classic choices.
