NCIS: Los Angeles: Deep Trouble, Part 2 (2014)
Season 6, Episode 1
2/10
Spoiler: major goofs
30 September 2014
Warning: Spoilers
Sam and Callen are nearly dead from lack of oxygen, but somehow they find enough oxygen to fill their lungs, go underwater for an extended period, long enough to incapacitate two terrorists; they then surface and with guns that have been underwater long enough for the barrels to be filled with water, fire their pistols without having them explode from water blocking the bullet (which usually happens in the real world); one terrorist misses Sam from a few feet away, but Sam doesn't miss; they find iron oxide rust in a brand new submarine, and make thermite from lithium; they then punch a hole in the side of the sub that miraculously does not cause the hull to completely collapse, but just allows some seawater in; they then swim to the surface and are 60 feet above an exploding U.S. Navy smart-torpedo and a submarine packed with a fertilizer-bomb, but they are unharmed. Seriously?

I Married Wyatt Earp (1983 TV Movie)
2/10
"Clementine" not history
3 July 2007
This is exactly what it purports to be - a made for TV movie. But to suggest that by watching "My Darling Clementine" one will get "a much better version of what happened at the infamous OK corral" is ludicrous. Only by examining the actual transcripts of the trial and sifting through the evidence, does a true picture of what happened on October 26, 1881 emerge. The aforementioned movie with Henry Fonda in the title role (with a truncated mustache) is so full of inaccuracies, it beggars belief (Doc Holliday is killed mid-cough!). For the real story, read the actual transcripts of the evidence in Alford E. Turner's "The O.K. Corral Inquest" (1981) and in the best documented biography of Wyatt Earp, "Wyatt Earp: The Life Behind the Legend" by Casey Tefertiller. As for "Tombstone", one of my favorite movies despite the liberties with the facts =( see the article re inaccuracies at: fern canyon press . com/ tombstone (take out the "e" in tombstone) / movie.s h t m l (take out the spaces).

Sleuth (1972)
10/10
My favorite movie
28 September 2003
Have you ever been asked: "What's your favorite movie?" I have been answering "Sleuth" (1972) for many years. I have never been so drawn into a movie. There is such an edgy tension to it that never relents. I first came across Sleuth on television while channel surfing, and although I missed the first 20 minutes, I was still captured instantly. Later, I made a trip to the local video store, viewed the minutes I had missed, and then bought my own copy. It pushed all my buttons. I have a background in law enforcement, and I love a good mystery. To quote the song: "it's still the same old story, a fight for love and glory...jealousy and hate." How could you not be fascinated? Sleuth has everything: drama, humor, surprise, witty dialog, great music (I hum the theme song a LOT!). I purchased a copy of the screenplay, and have huge chunks of it memorized. As the plot unfolds, the roller-coaster-tension accelerates, and just when you think you have it figured out, a new twist ratchets the tension up from 'danger' to 'forget-to-breathe-scary', then lulls you with periods of calm and humor before returning instantly, without warning to the previous level of panic. Like watching a train wreck, you cannot take your eyes off of the two protagonists: Olivier is considered by many the greatest actor of the 20th century. Michael Caine is also a great actor, and, although he told reporters later that he was intimidated by Olivier, he goes toe to toe with the veteran Shakespearean actor in every scene. From the trailer and the reviews I have read the Kenneth Branagh remake due out this year has been so modernized as to be unrecognizable. See the original. If you have never seen this movie, I envy you! Buy it. Rent it. But SEE IT!
