Quite sick but... good?
14 August 2003
I saw 'Ishi the killer' and Audition. I didn't mind them but... this movie probably in a whole other category on its own. This movie is, quite simply, the epitome of disgusting and yet the director captured it in, dare I say, a very beautiful and somewhat realistic way. The man is sick, it's true! This movie is very, VERY sick and yet I couldn't bring myself to stop it because it was like nothing I had ever seen before. WARNING: DO NOT WATCH THIS WITH FRIENDS OR ANYONE FOR THAT FACT!

A bit of an Evangelion rip-off -- and that's certainly NOT a bad thing
29 July 2003
I'm not going to give anything away nor try to even explain the plot. Believe me, just watch it! It is somewhat like the Evangelion series and made by ADV; it's got the whole Mecha thing going and has shown a lot of depth like Evangelion. The character design isn't bad. It's just beautifully done. Again, just watch it and don't miss out!

Blue Submarine No. 6 (1998–2000)

How can anyone judge this series based on the edited version?
1 July 2003
Blue Submarine is excellent! Of course, if you watch the edited version of the cartoon network then you're out of luck. Keep in mind that this is an OVA series so no one should be dissapointed. Most series today are only 26 episodes long! Again this OVA was great; it reminded me of Cowboy Bebop, that being the characters, elements, and, more importantly, the music. The music was great, it added so much! I really recommend it to anyone and it's great for any collection.

Neon Genesis Evangelion (1995–1996)
An experience for all
1 July 2003
Nothing much was expected from this series when it first came out. From the outside we simply see the usual japanese kids playing with giant mechas to save the world (this is SO common!), on the inside... it so much more.

Neon Genesis Evangelion presents every element that exists in our world today from the problems that plague society to the human condition itself. Every character from Shinji, Misato, and Asuka represents an aspect of the human condition and each hide an aspect from each other and the viewer until later in the series.

Everything is a build up until episodes 25-26 when the true purpose of Eva is revealed. Episodes 25-26 in the original series has to do with the Human Instrumentality Project and leaves us with a pretty crappy impression of the whole series at the end and makes us wonder, "what was the point?". Episodes 25-26 or 'The End of Evangelion' is, in my opinion, the true ending that doesn't really 'end' but rather makes us look back, and REALLY look back on the series and wonder...

This has to be by far the most intelligent anime ever created and one of the greatest ever made. A definate top 5! Recommended not only to anime fans but the general public because of the potential influence it holds. A masterpiece for the ages.

A Good Re-cap...if you've actually seen the series
14 March 2003
The series itself is a true masterpiece, I spoiled it by watching "The End of Evagelion" first, do NOT do that. "Death & Rebirth" is a good re-cap if you've seen all but the last 2 eps. It's a bit back and fourth but overall it erases any confusion. Again, this series is beautiful, it's not just 'robots' fighting monsters it's SO much more...they are NOT robots... DO NOT pass this series up! It's an experience.

What goes around comes around

Great anime! Actions scenes, blood, and a decent story behind it. You'll know what I mean when you watch this movie when I say " What goes around comes around ". The end of the movie seems a bit abrupt but the overall quality of it makes up. 10/10.

It's so dark...
4 January 2003
What a dark and disturbing film and yet it's not so far from the truth. It was hit dead on with the line, "It's a strange world". This film explores just that. Under the image we put out to society we all have a darkness that we keep hidden. We're all the same. Some choose to display this darkness, others keep it hidden. Even in a small remote town displayed in Blue Velvet there are secrets that are not meant to be explored. To us it may seem that Lynch goes a bit too far with some of the scenes but just think about it: What is too far? Anyways, Lynch did a great job. I still have yet to see all of his pieces but this ranks up there as one of the best films made that contains so much meaning. Do not overlook this movie, it's one for the ages. 10/10.

A Futuristic Classic!
7 August 2002
Metropolis isn't an action, adventure, or a drama...It's an experience. It's a roller-coaster ride of a movie that takes the audience through an experience into the future with a sense of the past and present. I'll explain. First off, the animation in itself is what makes the film so unique. It's a sort of Tin tin animation mixed in with anime. The background of the city is amazing, a must see. The music is what does it though! The music is very classy. The type of music used in the old black and white classics. The whole movie experience is a sort of oxymoron, it contradicts itself. The futuristic background with the classic-styled people and music. A very unique animation indeed and one not to be missed if you're a fan of animation.

A true Dark Comedy
7 August 2002
Wow, what a movie. After the movie I sat down and thought how very accurate this movie made life feel in general. Many emotions can be expresed in this film because it simply has them all. The realism of the family in the non-fictional part of the movie had me laughing all through it. The acting was great, the characters that were created is what made this movie the great comedy it is. The personalities were so contradicting! Basically, they were so mean to each other that it was funny. Great movie!

U Turn (1997)

An Incredibly Funny Film out of Pity for the Characters
7 August 2002
What a funny movie! What a cast of actors. It shows. U-Turn is a movie about your average sex, money, and betrayal get-up but it's very well made. Sean Penn and Nick Nolte are great! The different personalities is what creates certain confrontations and makes it funny. So many tag lines can be applied to this movie! Name one and it'll be there! Different motives are revealed throughout the movie but aren't necessarly the real ones which leads to greed and betrayal. I felt myself even getting frustrated because the movie sucks you into it, you get so much into the characters that you feel what they do. An example would be Sean Penn who you feel so sorry for during the film that you'd want to cry and laugh at the same time. A great film!

Street Fighter Alpha (1999 Video)

Good but...
13 May 2002
Street Fighter Alpha (Zero) was good but not what one would expect. I also was waiting patiently for this video because I thought that it would be the same, if not better, than Street Fighter 2: The Animated Movie. For starters, the animation is not quite the same. Zero seems to have a lighter atmosphere in color, whereas the others had darker and more detailed ones. Zero was more of an emotional series with that piano-based music like in the Tekkaman 2 series. The fighting scenes were no where near as entertaining as the others were. The fight scenes were slow, not very creative and, for the most part, the characters bodies were distorted and weird. Yes, this movie is decent if your a hardcore anime fan who likes emotional and unrealistic shows, but for us plain Street Fighter fans it's kind of a drag.
