The traditional protagonist, the alpha-male, who embodied "Knowledge + Experience = Wisdom" was killed in the first episode. In his place, for the remainder of the series, the non-traditional protagonist, the once beta-now-alpha-female, armed with motherly instincts and medical doctorate, sans practice, but with loutish husband. Too bad the writers overt attempts to garner viewer sympathy and respect for her seem to instead foster antipathy and frustration. At least the Sheriff had a quick death - he was killed outright when struck in the head by a malevolent alien. The audience? Not so lucky. We continue to be bashed over the head by producers who tout yet exploit empowerment.
