Reviews
The Last of Us (2023)
Just bad.
The score on here couldn't be further from the truth. I honestly can't see where that is coming from as the whole show is absolutely disappointing and completely underwhelming, forgettable and lacks everything that made the game such a beloved classic. It's not only the subpar and wooden performances, the horrendous and terrible dialogue, there is absolutely no tension, there is no immersion to speak of as the characters are totally exchangeable and lack even the tiniest bit of charm, the camera and photography as well lacks any interest or show of capability, everything is just so totally forgettable and annoying at worst. Definitely won't stick around.
The Outsider (2020)
Overrated, gets only worse...
Too overrated, gets worse with every episode. Unlikely coincidences, unlikeable characters, characters behave like jerks, no one cares.. neither do i now! I mean King's book are crap now, so is this show..figures.
Girl on the Third Floor (2019)
Keep going, nothing to see here...
Minor Spoilers ahead.
What a horrible, tedious little film that I wish I had skipped..there is nothing of value here, except the FX maybe, which is alright. There is a lot to complain, I will try to keep it short. The story is as old as time, just another "haunted house", the main character behaves like a moron (he's doing renovations in slippers?!? takes "goo showers", and so forth), and you know how wrestlers always make good actors? no, me neither..
so, rather watch "Witch in the window" which is similar but way better.
Good Boys (2019)
who's the target audience?
Is it teens/kids or adults? Because this movie is made for neither I think..the jokes are clearly made for adults, while there are situations only a kid can laugh, because they are "childish" and for me tedious to watch.. Superbad was fun, ok, this one, isn't!
Watchmen (2019)
We'll see...
Won't we? I think it's funny to see reviews here, saying "woke this" and "leftie that", with watching the first(!) episode, and without having a real context, without havin' seen the whole season. Me personally, after seein' the first episode, I remain critical/sceptical, there's lots interesting stuff I would like to know more about, but there is also some stuff I don't agree with and I'm curious to see where it all goes, to build an opinion. So far, it's ok, but still nowhere near the genius that was the novel, imo the movie's crap! (for now) 5/10
Creepshow (2019)
so very terrible...
What a shame. When I grew up, the original Creepshow movie was a huge part of my childhood, I fondly remember the story with the animal under the stairs, I was scared for months. So I had some expectations when I saw that they re-booted it as a TV show on Shudder, sadly it's a huge disappointment even if all the fake reviews here what make you think differently.
The first story "Grey matter" is very good, in terms of story and FX, but then it ends abruptly, the second one is just awful, boring and tedious, with very low production cost, they clearly used it all for the first one. And that (the very, very low production cost) with the horrible stories, not in a good way, and they get worse with every episode, kills the show.
Alita: Battle Angel (2019)
Flawed stylish action..
First off, let me tell you, that i don't know the source material, so i judge this flick by his own merits.
Minor spoilers...unfortunately, it's sometimes great fun, really enjoyable, but also, it has some major flaws that i can't forgive. i mean the action is fast paced, enjoyable to watch, but there are holes in the story and stuff i would like to have adressed (transhumanism, not a word about it, they turn a human into a robot/cyborg/whatever without even asking him first for example), and then the ending! what a rip-off! i feel like they hope for Alita 2 or something, because it just stops. like in a bad videogame where suddenly the credits roll and it's over, and you are like "what?".. i guess there would be so much more to discover and talk about, but this film falls very short in this regard. it's forgettable pop-corn action for the masses.
Hell Fest (2018)
Don't waste your time..
Minor spoilers ahead.
First off, i couldn't bear to watch this piece of garbage to the end, after an hour i decided i wasted enough time and moved on to do something else. so, please, don't be like me, and skip this bore-fest from the get-go.
here's a short summary why i stopped, the killer is totally uninteresting, some of the characters are annoying as hell and i wished they'd die a horrible death, the dialogue is often just ridiculous, the plot is laughable, there are plotholes big enough to drive a fricking truck through, the death scenes are way to scarce and not really interesting or orginal..
and to be honest, i don't get why it has such high praise here on imdb, you guys looked at the meta score? it's like 28! and that's kind..
and just to say, i'm really into horror, i do like a well made slasher flick, but this isn't it! 2/10
Triple Threat (2019)
so very dumb!
Awesome cast, i had high hopes for this one, usually the flicks with scott adkins and company are dumb, but still enjoyable, not this one. it's just way too dumb. the story is aweful, the action is mediocre at best, i had to stop..
Overlord (2018)
it's alright..nothing new or special..
I guess it's quite alright, but there is just nothing new going on, the plot was seen before (Outpost, Frankenstein's Army, Deathwatch come to mind, they did it similar, and maybe even better), but i have just one huge issue with the film, and that's the "PC-ness" of things, i mean, you have an african-american character but no-one, not even the nazis, make remarks about him being "black", i mean it's the 40's, i expect (but i don't support!!) racism in some way, not even the nazis are racist in this film it seems, and the little french boy? i thought maybe he will say something stupid, but no!
tarantino maybe overdid it in some way in Django, but at least it's accurate for the time. not so here, everyone is cool with an african american on board, that's highly doubtful.
On the plus side, the gore is really nice and juicy.
5/10
King of Thieves (2018)
Great cast doesn't mean great film..
I was intrigued by the cast, was looking forward to another great english gangster/crime film. but unfortunately in the end it didn't deliver at all and i got hugely dissapointed. the story is very weak, there is nothing going on, just a whole lot of f- and c-bombs, i was hoping that at least in the end there would be something, but no. it begins very bland, and just got worse from there. at least i could watch Michael Caine and Ray Winestone doing a decent enough job. It's a shame, could have been really good.
Lifechanger (2018)
terrible, had to stop..
It's a terrible little movie, the narrator is useless, the actors are terrible, the production value is zero, plotholes from the get-go, i had to stop after 20min and do something useful with my life. save your time, skip this one!
Suspiria (2018)
a new interpretation, not a remake!
Here's my two cents about Suspiria (2018) as a huge fan of Argento's work. and basically want i have to say, it's not very good and kind of dissapointing. it goes on for way too long, 2 1/2 hours, and not very much is happening. the original (i have to make comparisions, as the movie is called Suspiria) had wonderful colors, a superb soundtrack, great gore and was nice and tight, and didn't go on forever. This new interpretation lacks everything that made the original a classic. Gone are the vibrant color and memorable soundtrack. Instead we get a film that gets tedious over time. I had to check my clock to see how much more time i have to waste on this. At least the last half an hour is well worth it. I think you could easily get rid of an hour of material, and you would have a better film in the end.
Rust Creek (2018)
don't waste your time..skip this one..
Minor spoilers.
I stopped watching this very average "thriller" after an hour..couldn't be bothered to watch it to the end. there is nothing, really nothing that kept my attention. in the beginning, there is too many unlikely coincidences, the main character behaves strange, like puts on a bandage but removes it in the next scene. and the other characters are so predictable, as is the story. save your time, skip this one!
The Predator (2018)
a dissapointment to everyone!
Fist off, i'm a huge fan of the original Predator with Arnold Schwarzenegger, i grew up with that stuff, was born early 80's.
So, i had somewhat "hopes" for this one, because it was made by Shane Black, that's some guy who was involved with the first one. but all we got was another sequel that no one needs, with some of the worst ideas ever, at the end i was shaking my head in disbelieve. and there's almost no fan-service, something i kinda expected given the track record of Shane Black. And the kid, who asked for a kid in an R-rated movie? i mean, could be alright, but here, No! I was already afraid of that when i saw the trailer..yet another dissapointment. Guess all my favorite franchises are dead now, thanks Hollywood! RIP Predator. 3/10
The Handmaid's Tale (2017)
Tough & Brilliant
What a brilliant yet tough and disturbing glimpse of a future that could very well be happening, and maybe that makes it even more disturbing. It's dystopian but very close to reality.
I mean the movie from 1990 was alright, but this show tops it in every aspect. Elisabeth Moss is brilliant, the production value is immense (did not expect that), everything is top-notch! That is one TV show you can't and shouldn't miss. I don't know what else to say, expect it had such an impact on me, like i said, disturbing, tough and brilliant, and everyone should watch it!
Terminal (2018)
"A load of f**king nonsense"
A whole lot of colored neon lights instead of an interesting movie.
It's boring, tedious, redundant and predictable.
It wants to be cool and hip, but only succeeds in straining my patience, I had to fast forward to the end.
Ready Player One (2018)
typical hollywood garbage with zero creativity
This movie is just an insult to everyone with even half-a-brain.
i could list everything i disliked, but honestly, i rather go and play some Battlefield 4 now.
i mean, there are plotholes all over the place and this gets a 7.8 here on imdb, c'mon people. in the end, i had to fast forward, i didn't wanna spend my time with this crap-fest. because it's goes on forever, and it becomes tedious and boring.
typical hollywood garbage with zero creativity!
just a listing of pop-culture references.
'nuff said!
2/10
Molly's Game (2017)
so very boring..
I'm not really into poker, i get the basic rules and stuff, but I thought, well, I'll give a a shot. I thought maybe it's like Rounders, which I really like and that one's about poker, but has other qualities as well, and kept me interested. Not this one, Molly's Game is just boring and tedious. And if you're not into poker, stay away. There's nothing going on.. at least not in the first 80minutes or so, because I had to stop and do something else with my life.
I don't get the high score on Imdb either, it's around 7 right now, which is way to high and not deserved for sure!
Bomb City (2017)
Nice one!
I'm not gonna tell you what's happening in the film, you can read a summary if you like. but it's best you check it yourself, because this film is great in portraying the punk lifestyle and the problems that come with that, especially in Amarillo, Texas.
Myself, I was a punk with age 16, and then become a Skinhead (not a fascist/bonehead, but true to the 60s Skinhead movement) and really like to see a film like "Bomb City" because there are not so many films that portray Punks and Skins properly. Right now I can only think of This Is England (2006), but that one focus more on Skinheads.
Anyway, great film, watch it, Now!
8/10
Channel Zero (2016)
Strong start..
LIGHT SPOILERS AHEAD.
SyFy's Channel Zero starts really well, I really liked and enjoyed the first Season, even though it borrows heavily from Stephen King, namely "It" and "Children of the corn", and in some way from "Twilight Zone". But still, for me there was enough going that kept me interested. And the whole time I kept thinking, "Well done, SyFy Channel, didn't think you had in you".
But unfortunately, the second season falls flat in almost every aspect. I liked the premise, spooky house and all that, but in the end it's dissapointing. The story is much less intriguing, less mystery, and it becomes boring at times, just drags on. I think they could've done something nice with the premise, but they didn't.
The 3rd, and for now, the last Season is somewhere in between. It's not bad, but not really good either. And the story sometimes only works because the protagonists behave like idiots, typical horror stuff here (c'mon, you can't outrun a small person in a pj?).. at least it's got Rutger Hauer, and it's the most gory Season, rated MA, and the practical effects are really good I have to say. And there is a small social message as well, but all-in-all nothing special.
Guess it's still SyFy..if you wanna quality TV, you have to look elsewhere..
First Season 6/10
2nd Season 3/10
3rd Season 5/10
Annihilation (2018)
Not what I expected, but still.. really, really good!
I would call this film "Stalker" Light, because the trailer suggested to me, it's more like "Alien" or similar "Team-of-Scientist-whatever-VS.-Alien-Space-Creature", but it's cleary not and was wrongly promoted. I think the reason for this and the Netflix-release without going to the cinema, is people are just stupid and want the next "Michael-Bay-no-brains-please-Blockbuster" and wouldn't appreciate this fine film. So, I urge you to see this movie, best with an open mind. If you like Sci-Fi with brain, like "Stalker" or "Solaris" (the old one), this one is made for you. 7,5/10
Downsizing (2017)
What a petty and irrelevant film.
SPOILERS ABOUT THE END OF THE MOVIE!
Going into this movie, I did not have any expectations, I just read the summary and gave it a go. The whole premise about getting "small" / downsized didn't really appeal to me, but I was exicted to see what happens. And unfortunately, not a whole lot.. They talk a lot, there are interesting subjects broached, but they are never really fully explored; it's about refugees, non-voluntary downsizing of dissidents, economics, and a whole lot of other stuff that would be interesting, but instead we get some half-baked romance with happy end. And the movie's too long anyway. 4 / 10
The Shape of Water (2017)
Overrated and tedious.
Let me just say, if you're looking for something new and exciting, you won't find it here. Damn, I figure'd the whole plot even before the starting credits, it's so very predictable. And is that what people want these days? Zero imagination? just a rehash of the old and well-known? (Memberberries, anyone?)
Even later in the story I was able to predict everything! And to me, the movie lost all of it's power. It's just boring, I was waiting for it to end, so I can write this review.
I just thought that Del Toro would deliver something more imaginative, after the mediocre "Pacific Rim".
4/10
p.s. ok, I was suprised to see boobies in it :)
The Punisher (2017)
What a disappointment! I am a fan of the comic, read my review..
well, first off, I'm a huge Punisher Fan, love the comics by Garth Ennis, so, I have certain expectations when it comes to my favorite comic (anti-) hero and let's be honest, there is only but one decent Punisher movie and it's with Ray Stevenson! Fact! OK, now, first I saw the Punisher on Netflix as a side character in "Daredevil" and it was great, true Punisher feeling! Hard as nails and taking no prisoners, boy, was I surprised and glad, that they managed to capture him as he should be. And then they announced the Punisher Netflix Show, and I was truly excited for it, didn't watch any trailers, just not to spoil anything. and then November 2017 came around and the Netflix show arrived. And now I could write about everything wrong with this mess of a show, I mean, Netflix sometimes produces great quality shows, but most of the time, it's crap. and yeah, if you hadn't guess by now, it's the latter. Basicilly they turn The Punisher into Jack Bauer or "Homeland" or something similar. Just to say, we get the skull shirt/body armor in the first 5 minutes of the show, and then at the end for the last two episodes. C'mon, I mean, it's like taking away Logan's claws or Spider-Man's web things, it's iconic to the character! I could go on and on about what's wrong with this show, for me as a fan! But seems I am in the minority, the majority seems to like it. Once again, proof, you can't trust user voting! 3/10
