BioShock (2007 Video Game)
10/10
Immersive, Imaginative, and Insane!
30 January 2008
Warning: Spoilers
Bioshock is a super imaginative game sprinkled with great moments.

PLASMIDS - The plasmids are an excellent surprise in a game - What other first person shooter has you electrocuting enemies with lightning and incinerating maniacs with a snap of your fingers? Never have I seen powers used in first-person games. And the mature way you inject yourself to obtain these powers is amazing.

RAPTURE - The sprawling undersea city of Rapture is perfectly imagined by the game's developers. With art deco structures and 40s-like ads everywhere you go, you actually believe you are in the mid-1900s.

ENEMIES - Splicers. Big Daddies. Little Sisters. ANDREW RYAN. The enemies that inhabit Raptures walls will having you screaming in anger, crying as a result of sympathy, and laughing because of superiority. The splicers are maniacs who overdosed the plasmids which ultimately destroyed their bodies and minds. They will kill you on sight. These lunatics have you laughing when they twitch wildly after you gun them down, or hurling your controller across the room after they outsmarted and killed you. The Big Daddy - Little Sister team is the greatest in gaming. After you kill the giant, powerful Big Daddies, you can either Harvest of Rescue the Little Sister. If you Harvest her, you will achieve more ADAM ("The substance that keeps the wheels of Rapture turning" - Atlas), but it will kill her. If you Rescue her, you will get less ADAM, but she will survive. You truly feel sympathy for this team of villains, despite you MUST take care of them to survive in Rapture. "Mr. Bubbles, how could you?!" - Little Sister after a Big Daddies death. ANDREW RYAN. This man makes your blood boil. After you learn the secret about him, you still hate him. He sends waves and waves of insane splicers at you. He created Rapture, and he also destroyed it with his paranoia. And now your character seeks to kill him. Only can you reach him after killing hundreds of screaming splicers.

GRAPHICS - The graphics of Bioshock are amazing. Everything is incredibly detailed and the light hits the walls and items perfectly. Despite the incessant twitching of some splicers after they die, this game is one of the most realistic looking video games ever.

STORY - Simply one of the best in gaming. Now I won't spoil it for gamers new to Bioshock, but the twist when you enter Andrew Ryans office is the biggest surprise I have ever seen. With astounding voice acting Bioshock is of movie-quality.

For those who do not have Bioshock, get it! You will remember it for years to come.

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (2007 Video Game)
9/10
Astounding
31 December 2007
Despite slight flaws, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is one of the greatest games that came out this year. If you like First Person Shooters, you will love COD4. With realistic war zones and a good storyline, the controller will be hard to put down. Although Call of Duty 4 is fill with nonstop action and violence, it gives you a sense of what real war would be like, and you begin to appreciate real-life soldiers. GameInformer rated Captain Price one of the best heroes of the 2007 as a gaming year. Never are you so delighted to be ordered around by a guy with a mustache.

Graphics: 9/10: Great graphics, with slight flaws in grass and thin layered items.

Controls: 10/10: The scoping system is wonderful and I love how you can stab people in the back.

Realism: 10/10: The war zones and situations are so life-like in COD4 that you feel yourself simultaneously slashing with the controller as if it was a knife while pressing the mêlée weapon.

Difficulty: 9/10: I beat the game on the Recruit difficulty setting, and I had no problem (it was the easiest). So I tried to repeat one of the latter levels on Veteren (the hardest setting), and I was utterly annihilated.

Mass Effect (2007 Video Game)
10/10
Magnificent
31 December 2007
Warning: Spoilers
Over the years, Bioware has climbed the ranks and become the best storytellers in video gaming. But with all its games, there is always a flaw. Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic had a bad fighting system, but great story. Jade Empire was too short, with a great story. And now Mass Effect has no large flaws, with a great story. It seems they have finally created the nearly perfect game.

With a story the reels you in, enemies that you WANT to blow up, and dialog that feels like a movie, Mass Effect is one of the greatest games ever made.

As you play as Commander Sheopard, a war-torn hero who's fate you decide, you are joined by different races and characters that you grow to love (especially Urdnot Wrex). When you can't save Wrex the first time around, I was heartbroken.

Commander Sheopard was voted the third best hero in gaming this year by Game Informer magazine simply because you can be a bad ass commando or a heroic and gallant soldier.

Simply the best game all year.
