Tormented (2009)
Skins Slasher
I was fairly surprised at how much i enjoyed this film, it dragged slightly but i did fairly enjoy it. There were some good gags in the film and a few familiar faces from the likes of "SKins" and "Grange Hill". It was quite gruesome but for a British slasher it was good. With the movie being made under £1 million i found it was applaudable for a film on that budget, Alex Pettyfer seemed, i thought, strangely fitted to his character, and the character of Tasha played by SKins' 'Michelle' was i thought creditable, i feel that this film may do quite well in England as it is a bit of 'British Comedy'. However the plot may have been silly and very far-fetched i found myself laughing and squirming just as i did with "Shaun of the Dead", in my opinion a well-cast cast whether recognized faces or not. Overall, i do feel like it has been said, that SKins fans would enjoy this, and that it is a fairly unlikely representation of school life but i did enjoy it.
Vacancy 2: The First Cut (2008)
Sequels are never as good as the original.
Sequels are never as good as the original, however, this one i did like. I really enjoyed Vacancy as it was a sort of new style of horror film and was like a mix between peeping tom and psycho. But the main thing that i liked about the film is that the back story and relationship of the couple was deep. Vacancy 2- The First Cut however, was not as good. Don't get me wrong i enjoyed it, but the opening i found was poor, i think it was due to the camera work, it was moved quickly, which may have been the aim they were aiming for but it annoyed me. I think the movie really lightened up after the couple and their friend arrived. It became more tense when the character, Mr. Smith walked over to the car with the 'mask' on, where the woman was sitting, with a knife in his hand intending to add them to their snuff film. Another part i really enjoyed was the bit when the girl, Jessica and the friend, Tanner, run to seek help and find a house which leads to another tense attempted- escape scene. This film doesn't really provide many jumps, nor does the first, but the film is like no other and i did actually like it, 18 titled in England, i'd say it should of been a 15. Not as good as the original but i did actually really like it.
The Haunting (1999)
Very poor, i expected more.
I decided to watch this film after seeing it on sky, and thought it would be good due to the cast. However, i was bitterly disappointed. It started intriguingly, and it was quite obvious she would be an important part to the film. The film slowly went down hill, with it's awful attempt to be 'sexy', the acting was not brilliant, which was surprising, which added to the uncomfortableness of the film. With the story in place i thought it would have a good ending, but it was one that i saw coming and was dull. I would not recommend this to anyone. I love all types of film, but this 'thriller' was dreadful. I'll give it a 2 due to the actors who i felt made the film more watchable, i would of turned it off if it was anyone else due to me being a fan of Liam Neeson. Not at their best.
The Unborn (2009)
Exceeded Expectations.
Yes. it did exceed my expectations, but my expectations were pretty low. I went to watch this film for one reason and one reason alone, Gary Oldman. Yes, i went to watch this film to watch him, after watching the trailer i knew it was going to be a bad film, the story looked poor, and the film looked boring. However the scares made me laugh, i find it hilarious at how they could be straight-faced throughout the film, with they bugs in the eggs, and the old man 'possessed'. Gary Oldman, even in this appalling film did act brilliantly, as he always does. If you do go to watch this film. Make sure it's for him. As there is no other reason.
He's Just Not That Into You (2009)
I'm just not that into this film.
This film had a promising future with it's 'all-star' cast. I found this film quite slow, the acting OK, and looked as if it took ideas from other films. It was a good plot, with good acting, but it was too slow. The story line dragged and it seemed a poor attempt of copying Love Actually. I'm not going to bother writing much, as this film is highly over-rated. Yes! it was a good film. Yes! i liked it. And Yes! i walked out. If you want to watch this film, don't, watch love actually instead. Love Actually is amazing, this is just not that brilliant as people make out. This film may show 'real' life, but it does not slot together. I laughed a couple of times at this film, but, it really did not live up to expectations.
Strangers on a Train (1951)
Criss-Cross = Classic Hitchcock.
Hitchcock made this film a classic, which other directors may have failed to do. I feel that Hitchcock filmed the film brilliantly and the beginning only showed the feet lead the pathway to suspense. This film was made better by the 'not killing' of Robert Walkers Father which was previously scripted. This suspense train ride, leads only straight into a classic, and the film sadly not hugely remembered will be passed down from me, for sure. Hitchcock added a feel to this film, by casting his daughter as 'Babs' which i found comforting as i watched, the way that Robert Walkers Character became a silhouette for other 'stalkers of films' to follow in. Farely Granger acts tremendously as the guy who has a conscience. It shows how 'joke's' can be twisted, and that the honest character will always come out on top.
Sorry, Wrong Number (1948)
A mix of Hitchcock.. with a chilling ending.
This film was quite clever, and got into the storyline quite quickly which i found quite amusing but which added to the effect. The bed-bound woman was only sitting bait, and awaiting her fate. Although the film was clever and nicely linked, the way the husband wanted to kill her, yet finally did not. It did frustrate me a little, that the woman could not walk, when she previously had attempted and succeeded. The film reminded me of two Hitchcock classics merged together (however the film was before it's time), those films were rear window with James Stewart in the wheelchair, awaiting to be attacked by the killer and Dial M for Murder, in which a man had hired an old school chum to kill his wife, Grace Kelly. This film was thoroughly intriguing and a worthy 8 stars :) Oscar Nominated :)
Vertigo (1958)
Phenomenal
This film, i would say this is Hitchcock at his best. This film, is said to be a classic of Hitchcock's films, and it undoubtedly is. The camera angles, the music, the acting, the plot, the director. ALL are superb. This film, is very unguessable about what will happen next, and had many twists.. Vertigo i feel was GOOD title as it pointed out the thing that held the plot together. The music corresponds with it's dramatic scenes. Vertigo showed Hitchcock had a lot more to come which he did. I love the way the colour schemes are used, with flashbacks etc.. the film has a dramatic and brilliant end which is brilliant.. Hitchcock's Masterpiece is a Must See for all. Movie Lovers will not want to miss out on Alfred Hitchcock's vertigo.
