Guilty (2012)
Somebody's got to do it.
Just like with Old Folks Like Us I was thrilled when Dreams Come True Films released this short film on their Youtube channel.
Even if the fantasy genre is not your favorite genre, I think you will like this. It tells the story of a defense attorney named Jonathon Baxter and how he is a hated man because he has recently just gotten a murderer off scott free. How many times in our lives, in a conversation among friends, do we hear this,
"I could never be a defense attorney and represent the scum of the earth clients that they represent!" I know I have personally made that statement. But the fact is, somebody has to do it. It's the way of the land. So Jonathon is merely "doing his job." but he is hated by his community for doing so, and well..... you just have to sit down and watch this for yourself as I don't want to give the whole story away.
I have watched Guilty many times and I've got to say everyone did a great job especially the actor who played the lead Jonathon Baxter. I highly recommend this short film and I hope to see new content on their Youtube channel in the near future.
My Mother's Replacement (2015)
Another job well done for Dreams Come True Films.
I got to see My Mother's Replacement at the premiere they had at the Paris, Illinois Theater. Another job well done for Dreams Come True Films. In my honest opinion you would never know this is an independent film company as they make quality films without huge budgets or famous actors.
Everyone associated with this film should be proud of how well it was done. This film tackles the issue of mental illness and suicide. I think Stephanie Bosma who portrayed the mother did fabulous as did Jason Bowser & Morgan Danielle McKervey who played father and daughter.
While the majority of the movie is serious there are some lighter and funny moments within this story. So grab a soda, popcorn and tissues and watch another fantastic film made by Dreams Come True Films.
Cries Unheard (2015)
Shawn Chevalier is a powerhouse actress!!
In my opinion I think Dreams Come True Films is one of the rare independent film companies that never shy away from tackling real life issues.
Their short film Cries Unheard is a great example of them not shying away from real issues that happen. Whether its racism, child abuse or bullying this has such a strong message about standing up for children who don't have a voice.
I will say that Shawn Chevalier who portrayed the abusive mother gave a wonderful performance, as did Taylor Moss who played Karen. As per secondary or supporting actors, props to Morgan Danielle McKervey for doing an outstanding job as the lead bully, Holly.
I applaud the writer for bringing these hard to discuss topics to light. This is definitely a must see film! Just make sure you have some tissues handy as you will need them.
In a Cage (2013)
Should be shown at all Domestic Violence shelters.
Being from the same local area where this film was made, I was excited when I heard that they were seeking extras for a bar scene in the fall of 2011. I didn't actually get seen on camera (I was left on the cutting room floor, LOL) but it was still very exciting to be on the set of a real film production. One would never even begin to imagine how much hard work is put into these movies, especially if it has a small crew as this one did.
I was shocked to learn how many takes must be done, even when the actors are doing what seems like a great job, many, many takes are done just to be absolutely sure there is plenty to work with in editing.
For being an extra, I got a free invite when they premiered it in October 2013. Held at the Holiday Inn, there were 4 back to back screenings to oblige people with difficult schedules. It's a great topic that needs to be addressed.
This is a must see film that tackles domestic violence and the importance of trying to be a voice for a battered woman. For an independent production I thought they did a fantastic job. Christopher Hunt who played Robert & Paisley Blackburn who played Kristy were outstanding and had great chemistry.
I think this film would be a wonderful movie to show at Domestic Violence shelters as I believe it could help save lives and give people strength to seek help.
Old Folks Like Us (2013)
Look out for that Harold & Ruby!
As a big fan of Dreams Come True Films I was so thrilled when they produced Old Folks Like Us and put it on their Youtube channel for their fans. I just wish they could have produced a third episode.
It's nice to see a family friendly show that you can sit and watch with the entire family. I will say that it was well written and the actors had really good chemistry which is of course important to the success of any project.
While I liked them all, I think my favorite couple was Harold and Ruby Young, played by David Ross and Joann White. The antics of Harold will crack you up. But the attitude on Ruby will really surprise you (for a little old lady, LOL). But be sure to watch part 2 for an extremely impressive performance by first time child actor Jace Jackson!!
I for one think this would make for a great TV series on a national stage if it got in the right hands. Whether you are 25 or 65 there is something for everyone and it's a must see TV pilot. Well done cast & crew of Old Folks Like Us.
The Text (2023)
THEY SAVED THEIR BEST FOR LAST!
Dreams Come True Films definitely hits a home run with their latest film. The Text has so much to offer. Whether it is the subject of texting and driving or forgiveness this movie will have you thinking long after it's over.
The acting of Karla Dansereau & Sharon Nelson is outstanding and I definitely see them having solid film career for years to come as they are both extremely talented.
You will definitely need a box of tissues when you watch this movie as it will definitely stir your emotions.
One of the things I love most about Candy's screenwriting is that there is always a great surprise waiting at the end of the movie.... You just never see it coming. I love movies that are NOT predictable and that is what she delivers!
I am sad at the thought that Candy and Daniel have retired from filmmaking because they make an absolutely incredible team. Who says you can't work with family? I know I'm not the only one to feel this way, but the world needs more films like theirs. But all good things must come to an end, unfortunately.
Fun fact: The Text has won multiple awards, including Best Drama, Best Producer, Best Message, Best Cinematography and the list goes on and on. Check out their Facebook page for more info. I am not a bit surprised that they have won as many as they have. This film is at the top of my list of favorite films of all time!
Vanished (2014)
An edge of your seat thriller!
I must say while this is not Dreams Come True Films first production it is the first time we see the amazing talents of Candy and her son Daniel as a team as their first production which they did in 2011 was done by outside help before Daniel became involved.
This is a film that will have you guessing until the very end and keep you on the edge of your seat as it is full of twists and turns.
I have heard through the grapevine that Dreams Come True Films may finally be getting distribution for all their films after all these years. It's got to be incredibly challenging and frustrating competing with Hollywood so I pray their dreams will become a reality soon. As a big fan, it would be fantastic to turn on Tubi one day and see these films as they deserve a much wider audience than they have had. They truly deserve to have these movies seen worldwide not just at local screenings and local premieres.
You will not be disappointed if you watch Vanished. You will definitely need a box of tissues handy as the performance of Caitlin Smith is a real tear jerker.
This movie is definitely a must see and I can see why it has won multiple awards including best thriller, best writing and best lead actress for Caitlin Smith who portrays the grieving mom.
The Promise (2017)
A FANTASTIC ROM-COM
I had the privilege of seeing The Promise at the world premiere they had on November 4, 2017 at the Bridge Church. It is a laugh out loud comedy that will have you saying "What will Grandpa do or say next?" And "Will Mackenzie find her Mr. Right?"
I will say it was a treat that they managed to get Ken Kercheval (DALLAS) in their movie since he was from the Wabash Valley. He did a meet & greet on the red carpet with each and every person in attendance which was super cool.
The writing and cinematography were outstanding.
Katie Peterson and Bruce Royer had excellent chemistry as Granddaughter and Grandfather
and if I didn't know any better, I would think that they were really related. Chemistry between actors is vital for the success of a film.
If you get a chance to see this movie you will not be disappointed as it's a great movie and I highly recommend this film. Fun fact this movie is also a multi award winner. Watch it and you'll discover why.
A Second Chance (2018)
A must see faith based drama
This is my first time with an IMDb account. I have been a long time fan of Dreams Come True Films. So I plan to review all of their films that I have seen. I am a resident of the Wabash Valley (in Indiana) where most or all of their films were produced.
Writer, Candy Beard and Director & Cinematographer Daniel Beard make an incredible team. Let's start with the drama A Second Chance. It is a fantastic film that tells the story of 3 teenage girls from the wrong side of the tracks. This film is full of twists and turns. You'll laugh and you'll cry so get your popcorn, a drink and a box of tissues and get ready to enjoy one of the best movies to come from the independent film world. Fun fact, this is a multi award winning film, and I highly recommend it.
