Ace of Hearts (2008)
Great Family Film!
This is a great film for the whole family. We picked it up over Memorial Day weekend and it contains some really wonderful acting (Warning - I've been a huge fan of Dean Cain since Lois and Clark) with the little girl and the dog stealing the show.
The premise of the story is that the family must save their dog from a criminal that has framed it for a crime.
Although the girl must play a bit of a junior detective to save their dog, there is nothing in it (regarding the dog) that will make the kids cry or anything.
The movie is put out by FoxFaith and does have some elements of religion but nothing that is "preachy" or anything.
The producers put out a wonderful "Junior Detective Guide" to accompany the film that your kids can play along with on FoxFaith.com Again - I give it 9 out of 10 stars as it has something for the whole family.
Love's Unfolding Dream (2007)
Great Movie on Its Own
I know that the Janette Oke books that translate into films get a little heat because they tend to deviate from the books (They Killed Willie!) but they are really good films on their own. It's hard to find anything out there "period piece" wise that is good for the whole family.
This one centers on the whole "traditional" role vs. "progressive" role for females and Belinda must balance her desire to become a doctor vs. the views of her fiancé. Really kind of takes you back to a time when that was a big deal. It opened up a discussion between my young daughter and I when she asked, "Daddy, why don't they want her to be a doctor?" Again, this is another good one from the Oke series and the producers have a good study guide to accompany the film on their website FoxFaith.com.
Give it 9 out of 10 stars.
