Rome against the Pope! A good historical movie.
1 September 2002
A good historical italian movie, about the Republic in Rome that in the 19th century tried to reach freedom from the Pope's Kingdom. You can see the birth of the feelings of being italian, in an historical period when Italy as a nation did doesn't exist. Italy was divided in many countries, and the general Giuseppe Garibaldi was trying to unify Italy fighting against the French and the Austrians. You will appreciate the beautiful Rome of the ancient palaces, and the italian landscape. A good director for a movie that should be more known.

original, and so modern

It's very interesting the way they tell the story, especially the timeline. The story jump back and forward in so a modern way, a great writer's job. It's rare to see a good film like that, a great love story, a 1967 movie that could be a blockbuster right now. It' strange that i'd never heard about this movie, it's not very famous but I think is a little jewel.
