Delta State (2004)
Great show!!!
Well first off...Think MTV's old show downtown (which was also great) meets "The Matrix". This is based on the little known comic of the same name and it does something cartoons haven't made a casual viewer do since the late 80's..Think! I would say that this show definitely isn't built for the kiddies because the plot may or may not go over their heads and some might not even grasp it exactly. You really have to see everything in this as well. If you miss a couple of seconds, you just might be lost throughout the whole story and/or episode. But the bottom line is that the style and writing is great, the animation is definitely different and fluid (also looks like Aeon Flux as well), and it's an overall CHANGE from the anime, blocky faced, toilet humor characters that you normally see these days. Very refreshing.
Sabrina's Secret Life (2003)
Good positive show.
In a decade where most cartoons feature filth, toilet humor,or overdone "japanese" style animation,we get this little gem from the guys at DIC.They are responsible for many of the past and some current cartoons. Some you may know such as Inspector Gadget,Beverly Hills Teens,MASK,and the recent Archie's Weird Mysteries. Now this show picks up a little bit after the "Sabrina's Animated Series" left off.The kids are older now and the new rival is a witch named Cassandra. They're generally out to foil each other, but they pretty much always have to work things out together in the end.And by doing so,prove that morals still exist amid a lot of the other filthy unmoralistic cartoons. This (along with the cartoon Braceface) is definitely highly recommended for kids.Great show by the team at DIC.
School Daze (1988)
a great film!!
First off,I disagree with the other poster on here. This film was truly great and showed some remarkable filmaking. This movie was first off made in the "Cosby" era, which means you will find a different view of African Americans here.It wasn't about babies,or even killing. It was about segregation between African-Americans themselves. It covered all the bases and showed there was a lot to learn dealing with that subject. As for the music scenes, they were great as well. With not a singe rap song in there,it conveyed through broadway style song and dance numbers.Something which will never be seen again in an African American film I'm sad to say.A good deal of these almost look like they were inspired by the "Alvin Ailey" dance group. The movie is rarely heavy handed, and when it is,it uses comedy to dull the edge.A true piece of work that should not be missed.Fans of the old show "A different World" would be pleased to know that half the cast is in this show.
