Madgaon Express (2024)
Nice story, vulgar content at times
It's not for families. Unless your kids are familiar with hookers, cocaine, sex and mafia. Oh, and white women wearing thongs dancing in beaches of Goa. How lame. Farhan Akhtar's productions keep showing content without morals to Indians, but I wasn't expecting it from Kunal Kemmu too. I couldn't wait to watch this movie but from the first 5 minutes I was literally thinking ''what the f..."? Coming from ''The railway men'' Divyenndu should have picked a better movie that would suit to his talent. This role showed him like a hysterical poor guy. The plot wasn't that convincing at several points, for instance that he had the means to fool everyone that he lived his best life. I preferred him in ''Mere desh ki dharti''.
Asur: Welcome to Your Dark Side (2020)
Masterpiece
First of all, I'm not an Indian.
I love Indian culture though and I try to watch as much Indian movies and series as I can.
This series is by faaaaar my #1 Indian web series of all time after Delhi Crime. It's most important aspect is that it is educative. You delve into Hinduism's scripts, beliefs and at the same time you learn about modern day technology dangers. It's literally mind-blowing!
I could go on writing about it but the gist of it is that it is totally recommended for international viewers. Should this series be on an OTT like Netflix it would definitely get international acclaim. India should start promoting heavily her quality content! I can't wait for season 3.
Ek Villain Returns (2022)
Only a pervert mind could make such a movie
What's to like in it?
John Abraham was presented as a decent, good guy who became a monster blinded by his one-sided love for a promiscuous woman who had no morals. And instead of killing her only he killed others. It should remind us of Riteish Deshmukh's role but it was a total mess.
Deshmukh's role on the contrary was presented all the way as a psycho man one would pity watching how his wife treated him. You couldn't identify with Deshmukh in Ek Villain. You would only feel sorry for him being mistreated. And you could even justify his psychotic outburst.
John Abraham's role wasn't anything like that, therefore it came as a shock seeing him not only killing but also chopping women to feed their parts to the animals. So sick scenario!
The first and original Ek Villain was based on a true, inspiring love story. This sequel was so perverse I couldn't believe my eyes. Arjun was a ruthless womanizer that love turned him into a ''good'' guy. Just like that. Totally not believable. Sid Malhotra was working for a don but he wasn't a bad guy deep inside.
After Haseen Dilruba I hated Ek Villain Returns equally because both movies show chopped parts as if it's the most natural sight. Be careful, people, because we shouldn't get used to such a sight. Ancient Greeks who invented theatre never showed murders or anything violent in front of the audience because such sights make the audience prone to violence.
Delhi Crime (2019)
I hope for a 3rd season as well
By far Netflix's best Indian-related series once again. I can't get enough of Delhi's atmosphere. Mesmerizing cinematography, nail-biting plot. I hope I am not the only one who would love another season of it by next year. Shefali Shah's acting is classy but this year Tilotama Shome is the one who nailed it. She makes you feel so uncomfortable watching her do her thing like it's the most natural thing in the world. The only disappointing aspect of this season was that it consisted of only 5 episodes. It could easily have at least one more elaborating the struggles Tilotama faced that turned her gradually into the monster we saw. Because we only saw her side of the story for 5 minutes and we didn't get the chance to ''judge'' ourselves whether she was a bit right for feeling despair. This season started with a prologue about the poor who serve the rich. The epilogue should include a note to respect these poor workers who work to make ends meet in a harsh world.
Laali (2022)
So touching
There is some resemblance to Ankahi Kahaniya's story with Abhishek Banerjee but it's not the same at all. Tripathi's loneliness never finds solace. He's left all alone again when he starts hoping in something in his life. You don't have to be like him to feel this kind of loneliness and despair. Do watch it. Appreciate every frame of it. We are all alone or we'll be left alone at some point in life.
Thar (2022)
Waste of time
Anil Kapoor is the only reason to watch it if you don't have anything better to do. Why would a producer spend his money funding such a bore? It's like Bollywood is trying to imitate boring Hollywood. India has so much more to offer in cinema but you need original scripts and ideas. Thar in this movie reminded more Far West or Mexico than India.
Gehraiyaan (2022)
I prefer Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna to this blunt movie
Boring movie that is trying to justify adultery. Wasted time, I'll watch Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna again, that story had more depth despite the fact it belongs to the classic Bollywood genre that most people mock. If this is the new Bollywood (a bad copy of bad Hollywood) well... I'm not interested.
Chehre (2021)
What an irony!
Bachchan & Hashmi in a movie talking about justice and punishment of the guilty people with Rhea trying to convince us she is hurt, fragile and innocent. She convinces you that she can easily fake it in real life. Poor SSR... Bachchan & Hashmi are so tragic for supporting a guilty woman in real life and co-starring with her. They should all be punished if there's poetic justice.
Annabelle Sethupathi (2021)
1 star only for Vijay Sethupathi & Yogi Babu
Taapsee is so ridiculous in this role. In fact who chose her? Vijay Sethupathi & Yogi Babu are the only ones who act more than decently in a movie that could have been successful and yet it seems it was produced hastily and carelessly.
