"Mulambo Grass" is a fresh and original vision of socio- economic and political struggles of contemporary Brazil
6 May 2014
Created by Wallace Ramos , born and raised in Maré's Slum, Grass Mulambo was launched as a web series and a multi platform project in 3 early episodes that finds its best definition while fable about the Brazilian social inequality .

Early on , we follow Makoumba Adeola (Tiago Costa aka Vanessa du Matu ) , a transvestite that acquiring new silicone breasts by non- official channels and faces the fury of Surayla ( Ana Paula Tavares ) and invested with his henchman , the Silly Walking Man ( Nathan Chevrin ) .

"Mulambo Grass" dare condense and explore a universe of characters encapsulated by misery , but never her hostage for complete. Condensing in the same cauldron sexuality , human rights , contemporary Brazilian religious matter and themes twins as corruption and politics , Mulambo Grass is a fresh and original vision of socio- economic and political struggles of contemporary Brazil .

Duck Season (2004)
9/10
Outstanding Film
29 September 2004
This is a wonderful example of the freshness in contemporary Mexican cinema. It's the story of two fourteen-year-old boys, who've been best friends for a long time. They get the chance to spend a whole day all by themselves at home playing video game and eating junk food. What they expected to be a quiet and pleasant day ends up being a total mess after the arrival of a teenage girl neighbor and a pizza delivery guy. Most of the film is a comedy which made everybody in the cinema laugh out loud. But the character building is so wonderfully done, that one gets very interested. In the beginning, the director made 2 or 3 minutes entirely of shots of the neighborhood in which the boys live. He makes us feel exactly how it is to live there. Also there's a slight theme of homosexuality (one boy realizes that he may be falling in love with the other one) that is very well developed.

It's basically a bittersweet story with really funny moments and outstanding actors performances, direction, screenplay and cinematography (the film was shot in black and white). It won 7 prizes, including best film, best director and best actress in the last Guadalajara Film Festival. A must-see!

L.I.E. (2001)
10/10
The best movie ever made about american suburb's lives
18 July 2002
This movie has been compared to "American Beauty" and "Happiness". But there's an important difference between L.I.E. and the other two movies. Besides the fact that L.I.E. is a lot better, Michael Cuesta's first movie is incredibly real and honest. It's unbelievable how human and real the characters are, even the weirdest ones. The theme may frighten parents and the conservative ones, but it receives an open and fearless treatment and that's why it should be seen by both teenagers and parents. Paul Franklin Dano as Howie and Brian Cox as Big John should have been at least academy award nominated, because their performances are really extraordinary. We'll surely hear a lot from Paul Dano in the future. Never seen an actor at his age like him before! He makes Haley Joel Osment look like a drama school pupil in his first year. Of course Dano is older; the comparison was made to give an idea of what I was talking about. It's an excellent movie, the most honest and realistic film I've seen in my life and it should be seen and discussed afterwards. Oh, and forget about the rating. It wasn't not even a bit fair to rate this film NC-17.
