Resident Evil (2022)
Quite Good!
I watched all of it. It's not the video game, but it's fine all by itself. Good acting, script has some unexpected twists. So what if it doesn't remind you of the video game? It's a very good zombie series all by itself. Too bad about all these bad reviews. Don't let them deter you.
La nuée (2020)
How about that ending?
Director talking to the writer:
Director: "So, uh...how about this ending here. Uh...it just ends in the lake like that?".
Writer: "Yea, that's it. "
D: seems kinda anti-climactic
W: Well, uh I kinda ran out of ideas
D: But what about the hundreds of thousands of blood-thirsty locusts that were released? Where'd they go?
W: .....hadn't... really thought about that...
D: And how about the woman's lover back at the house who's being eaten by locusts? She just kinda walked past him...?
W: yea, I uh, didn't really know what do to with that scene.
D: Uh huh. And the daughter is just gonna love her mother again after she fed the goat, the family dog, and their neighbor to the locusts?
W: You know what, my laptop must have run out of power there near the end. Besides, who's going to notice all that stuff? Let's just shoot it as is.
D: okay. As long as I get paid.
Pinocchio (2019)
Wouldn't Bring the Kids to This
I rarely write reviews, but I had to for this one. I really admire Benigni and he was fine in this movie, but the movie itself - I walked out after giving it a lot of leeway. I'm sure that "being faithful to the original" is a good goal, but here it just seems like they tried to stuff every character and every scene from the source into this one movie and the result was just odd and frankly boring. There was at least one scene that I thought was objectionable and in my opinion inappropriate for children. Where was that member of the production who should have spoken out and said, "Yea, uh, I think this might be upsetting to children". The acting is fine and so is the makeup, etc., but this movie didn't work. Sorry Roberto Benigni, this movie did not work.
The Boys (2019)
Wanted to like it but....
...there are no likeable characters. Most every character is selfish and arrogant. Interesting concept, Karl Urban is fun as you can guess, and this concept might have worked but aside from one of the main characters who is....nice..everyone else is just mean. Lost interest about half way through episode 2.
Venom (2018)
What's with the bad reviews? I had fun.
I was disappointed to see the negative reviews for this movie on Rotten Tomatoes, but I went anyway - and glad I did. This is a fun movie! Forget the negativity - go see it and enjoy.
La forêt (2017)
Intriguing from beginning to end
I thought this was really well done. Every one of the 6 episodes contained some kind of revelation and cliffhanger that kept me going onto the next one. I binged watched this series in about 3 days and really enjoyed it. Interesting characters and a plot that kept you guessing. Highly recommended.
Ghostbusters (2016)
Ignore the critics with sticks up their butts - this is a fine, funny movie
This is a funny movie. Simple as that. I assume all the extremely negative reviews are coming from people who somehow feel that their youth has been stolen because the film isn't like the original. The other nay-sayers must be pseudo-intellectuals who like to read their own blabbage about
With Melissa McCarthy you get what you expect. Kristin Wiig is great. Chris Helmsworth is fun and very different from what you'd expect. The CGI is very good.
Sorry that so many people have had their childhood's smashed, but I saw the original too. This one is a fine follow up. You won't be disappointed.
Tape 407 (2012)
Actually good - once you get used to the first person shooting style
It's disorienting at first to watch due to the style of shooting and I found it hard to believe that they shot the film entirely in this way, but once you get used to it (about 1/3 of the way through for me and I don't particularly care for this style) it's actually a good movie. You get to know the characters - you like most of them and you want them to survive. It just takes a little while to get over the shaky, hand-held camera approach. But you have to give them credit for being able to shoot an entire 90 minute film using this approach. It's low budget, sure, but look what they accomplished with it. I was scared in a few places and I felt sad to see some of them killed. I say, well done to the makers and actors who ad libbed the lines and completed the film so quickly.
Watchmen (2009)
Horrible movie!
I was influenced by what must be "fanboys" to go and see this movie. What a mistake. DO NOT waste your money on this film. First, it's incredibly long. Some movies can be long because the story is so good. Case in point: The Curious Case of Benjamin Button - it was long, but worth it. I thought this movie would never end and finally I just left. I saw many couple get up and leave long before I did. Second, the movie is confusing. They jump from one bizarre storyline to another. These filmmakers must have thought this movie and it's topic are so incredibly interesting that everyone else would think so to. Guess what - they're wrong. It's bizarre. The movie is also very violent and gory in many parts. In short, Watchmen deserves to crash and burn. Be careful about all these positive reviews. The movie stinks.
