Baya Al Maut (2011)
Visually Captivating
I had the pleasure of watching this film at TIff. I had no idea what it was about when going in, therefore I had no expectations. It was my first film from the director, so I did not know what to expect. Visually, this film was beautiful. A lot of the times, director Faouzi Bensaidi used just images to capture a scene's moment with no dialogue needed. It was powerful, simple, and complete. In fact, most of the scenes between the Malik and his girlfriend had little or no words. The power of emotion was captured simply by looks and glances. This is what made the story so much more powerful and leaves us stunned at the end. The story itself was a well told story about 3 boys who are trying to survive in Morocco. It was very well acted and the film gave us a glimpse of what life in Morocco is really like. It tied in local customs to the story and touched lightly upon religion. What I liked was how they had 3 clear views on religion in this movie, but it was presented in such a way, that you did not feel that this movie was only about that. Very much a film noir with a powerful story, beautiful visuals, amazing editing, this is a film that should be watched.
Race (2008)
Entertaining
This movie was entertaining and all the twists were good however i must ask why a director must spoil a perfectly good thriller/action film with MINDLESS STUPID AND UNREALISTIC ACTION SCENES! YOU CANNOT DRIVE A CAR ON ITS SIDE, YOU CANNOT JUMP BUILDINGS THE WAY THEY DID AND YOU CANNOT WALK OUT OF A HORRIFIC CAR CRASH WITHOUT A SINGLE BROKEN BONE!
Indian movies were doing so good and then some guy decides to put in stupid scenes in a good movie to leave a bad taste
But still, good film to watch, just ignore the unrealistic scenes. Acting was good all around except for Katerina..she was terrible. Also, them trying to make her look sexy to compete with Bipasha just failed miserably. One song was good, the rest were not something I listen to. Overall, 9 out 10 for story

Powerful and Provoking
I saw this series when it world premiered at the Toronto Film Festival. I liked the idea behind the film, where two men got together and told a director from each country to direct a movie about 911. These directors never met before until the project was complete, and they saw how it looked all together. WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! All the pieces were very powerful, and some were controversial. If you are an American, then you may not like this as some of the pieces may be found anti-american. However, i know a few Americans who enjoyed these series. The piece that i found the best was the one from India. It was about how a muslim family, living in the States, had 2 sons, and one of them was missing. The Americans gave them the cold shoulder and automatically assumed that he was linked with the terrorist bombing. It captures the mom's despair and humiliation of these accusations so well, that it brought tears to my eyes. In the end we see that her son had died while trying to save the many victims from the crash of the towers. This was a true story, and that was what made it so real. There were a lot of emotional and powerful pieces, and the African piece was one of the best. It was humourous yet just as powerful as the others. A must see for everyone, and hopefully America will unban this, and let it play in their country.
In America (2002)
Very Moving
I saw this movie at the Toronto how much i enjoyed the movie.
The movie was told from the perspective of 10 year old Christie(Sarah Bolger), which made it more effective as the lives of these people unfolded from a kid's point of view. SPOILERS AHEAD!!! After losing her brother, Christie and Ariel move to New York with their parents and have to live in a lifestyle quite different from what they knew before. Christie was the bond that kept this family together. With her 3 wishes she kept the family alive, and saved them from losing all the money they had. She was given the role of the mature child, and she did an amazing job performing. Her little sister was used to add humor to the movie, as it was a very sad and moving film. She was adorable and did a very good job of playing her character. This movie should be up for Oscars in acting, in my view but who knows. If you like movies that are inspirational then you should see this movie. If not, then stay away.
The Four Feathers (2002)
good acting
i saw this film when it appeared as a gala at the Toronto film festival. I have not seen the previous versions of this movie, but i thought this movie was great. The characters were well developed and the director did an amazing job getting the acting that he did. The plot was set in the first 20 minutes of the movie and was different from what i expected. Instead of being all about war, it was more about the journey of a man. Great movie. You guys should see it, if you haven't already.
