Star Trek: Strange New Worlds: Among the Lotus Eaters (2023)
Good idea, weird execution
This season so far has been superb, the first episode was good enough, setting several things to follow, the second was excellent, in the vein of TNG classics, the 3rd one again, truly different and a great classic time travel adventure like ST IV or Voyager Future's End.
But this episode is somehow hard to watch. I saw other people say the same thing, maybe it's a pacing issue, especially in the first half. Despite that, it's a good idea and I like the characters. Compared to Conundrum (TNG S05E14), which was a lot more fun to watch, this episode is the weakest of the season so far. It's not bad, but it's hard to get into. Even so, I gave it a good rating, because overall, I like the idea, and how it goes at the end.
Morbius (2022)
good cast, a lot of potential, bad execution
Good cast, good intentions, good acting, but sadly a bad movie... from screenplay, direction, pacing, visual effects, everything is off, a mountain of bad decisions, it has the potential to be great, but settles for mediocrity.
Loki: For All Time. Always. (2021)
Masterpiece
I'm truly impressed, the character growth of Loki is now complete, I cant wait for season 2, and I hope that his brother and other characters had the chace to meet the person he came to be, I cant explain it, but I'm proud of him.
Black Widow (2021)
Mediocre
A lesser mission impossible type of film and nothing more, is not even in the same league as other MCU films and series, for the most part I like the characters, and the general Idea is fine, but is just surface level on all its aspects, it lacks dimension and finesse, is not a work of art, is just a mild blockbuster, and to be absolutely clear, is not the actors fault, but everything else is just meh, a proven director should be chosen for this first instalment.
The Flash: Mother (2021)
Some great characters in a poorly written episode
Poorly written, an insult to Ralph, Eva McCulloch is a great character and totally underused, and even if I love Harrison Wells I expected more, maybe he rejoining the team or helping in some capacity going forward, and for the love of love... this is the Flash show... he has to be the solid ground on which everything else is founded, some good intentions, but missing the target, the previous episode, ep2, was the best of the season so far, one more thing, science fiction, is as much science as fiction, you cannot plot away anything you like, if there is no consistency, there is no challenge... anyway do better, please
Star Trek: Picard: Stardust City Rag (2020)
Grotesque
Is imposible to put into words how disgraceful and horrible this is, every bit of hope, good taste, coherence, Star Trek the Space Cowboy acid trip, they finally did it, they destroy everything that Star Trek stands for, what's the point anymore, what kind of twisted horrible people this show appeals for?
The Orville: Sanctuary (2019)
a great follow up to About a Girl
About a Girl was a fantastic episode of the first season, this one, follows up the story and enhances the message, is great so see Heveena again, is always good to see a well executed episode about civil rights, it has some minor editing issues, some scenes feel disconnected on the final cut, and only because of that I give it 9.5, for me Sanctuary is About a Girl part 2
The Orville: Lasting Impressions (2019)
Feel Trip
Everyone who knows the magic feeling of failing in love can empathize with Gordon on this one, love is for the most part an illusion, a projection of our own necessities, hopes and dreams, but what happens when the illusion seems to became real, and when things go sideways, how much control we do really have... an episode that reminds me of TNG and Voyager, also Tim Russ!, anyway, I love this one.
Legends of Tomorrow: Here I Go Again (2018)
Best episode, a sci-fi movie on itself
This one is by far the best episode of the entire series, it reminds me the quality of Star Trek TNG episodic Sci-Fi stories, centered on one crewman, I enjoy this episode more that entire season of Star Trek Discovery.
Acting is superb, Tala Ashe (Zari) does a wonderful job as a lead for this episode, and reveals a character full of potential, beyond what we saw until now.
Everyone gets some extra detail, even Gideon, anyway, without spoilers I can't say much, there are enough references and details in this episode to make it enjoyable to even the most casual Sci-Fi fan.
I recommend this episode even to people that doesn't watch the series, it works as a movie on itself.
The Man from Earth: Holocene (2017)
a good trip. until the end...
I truly enjoy this movie, until the end, is not just open, it just ends, all the plot lines disappear except the most awful of them, the last plot twist is just not interesting at all, I want to see more about his life, not that twisted crazy psycho stuff, they maybe went out of money and just did a rushed ending.
Some of the acting was off, but the characters and dialog was decent most of the time, I like the philosophical/theistic discussion.
It seems I'm the only one who saw the movie with enjoyment, I'm glad I watched another "day" in the life of a man who live so much time, I want to see more, but since I'm the only one who like something about this movie, it seems unlikely.
The Orville: If the Stars Should Appear (2017)
A tribute to classic Sci-Fi
Excellent episode rooted on Star Trek the original series with a bit of the Next Generation on it. Instant classic that presents important topics and Sci-Fi tropes to a new generation of watchers in a very entreating way. Bravo! to Seth and his team, still clapping episode three, I praise this one too.
Brave New World (1998)
Watch the other version or read the book
The "Brave New World (TV Movie 1980)" from the BBC was a billion times better, you can find references to that adaptation in IMDb
Just watch the BBC version or read the book, there is nothing in this one to redeem itself, awful.
The 3 hours long BBC version and the book can be found in the website Huxley dot net at the very bottom, there are the links to the book and the movie Sadly the copy came from a bad VHS, but watchable. There is no better copy as far as I know. A bit cartooned in style, worth it anyway, so the book.
Bottom line, do yourself a favor, watch the BBC version or read the book
