One Hour Photo (2002)
Although Robin Williams' Greatest Performance. . .
This film could have been flawlessly great! One totally forgets that Sy Parrish is Robin Williams! Great Acting here!
As Sy Parrish, Williams is totally believable, as he goes through a totally locked on (psycho) obsession with the Yorkins.
There is a struggle; however, in the story that is strange? His reaction to what he finds out is totally off the wall. We don't know why he does the things he does? There is no reason for his strange behavior. Some brief flashbacks would have been the answer to this, not many--just a few, would have given this movie an added touch of fear and depth. The audience is left to decide this.
I do; however, believe Robin Williams has found his best place in films, that of being the scary guy.
I really hope you will do more worthwhile roles like this one!
Another Stakeout (1993)
How Can Great Actors Accept Such Poor Roles?
This movie was so bad! Even fast forwarding I couldn't get through it fast enough, in 15 minute segments. HELP! The first Stakeout was fair at best, at least I watched it all the way through, but still a waste of time.
An academy award winner like Richard Dreyfuss (Goodbye Girl), and a superb actor Emilio Estevez (The Breakfast Club & Judgment Night), and Rosie O'Donnell (who knows, who cares), trying to be funny, didn't work.
However for the two male greats, this movie was so below them, why did they do it? Yes, it's probably hard to really know what a movie will be like before doing it, but once was enough with this movie. It was just another flopped squeal. Smart Actors like Richard Dreyfuss, and Emilio Estevez should have known better.
Now they have to live with this one on their resumes'. Oh well glad it's not mine.
Don't waste your time, get out Close Encounters, or Judgment Night, if you are looking for real entertainment.
Dangerous Minds (1995)
Why Did Michelle Do This Film?
She was miss-cast.
The message of the film was already made clear in the 1967 Hit move: To Sir With Love. And don't forget, it had a Hit song.
Sidney Poitier was already the right man for the job. It was done right--back then. No one can or could have done it better.
Sidney Poitier was also one of the students in the Hit Film: The Black Board Jungle, back in the 1950's which gave him the acting worthiness to now play the teacher.
However, the audience already rated this film, and so it stands. Michelle is such a wonderful actress; she deserves much better roles (example: What Lies Beneath w/Harrison Ford or Wolf w/Jack Nicholson). It's hard to believe she accepted this one.
