Meet Joe Black (1998)
I want to love this movie
This movie has it's qualities. It's tender, sweet, has it's good moments of acting and character development. But at the same time it's so slow and dreadful that it gets lost. The scenes are so drawn out and emotional. That it just gets dull. Not enough happens.
Joe is showing little emotion through the movie and that doesn't develop. It feels like the movie never really starts. The reactions to events doesn't really get the movie going in a normal tempo. So the main suspense is just left hanging.
I wish it were about halft the length and that the events had more twists and effects/reactions in the acting. That are more direct than they are here. The ending ties everything together, but way too late for me.
If you like slow movies, you probably will grade this movie higher than me.
SPOILERS:
I loved that the young man from the coffee shop got his body and life back. That was sweet!
Though I find it detestful that Bill doesn't tell his second daughter that he loves her, as much as he does with Susan. He treats her as coldly as he did in life. And his speech about his life is super short and he doesn't thank specific people in his life (like his family or closest friends). It just shows that the movie is so drawn out, that the main speech in the movie is like a minute long.
I would have loved if the movie would have more story development and to anwser why death/Joe lived in Bills house in person. "Why him?".
