Pixel Perfect (2004)
What a Disaster!
I'm not sure who should be blamed for this debacle - in truth, the acting isn't too bad and the story isn't as terrible as some made-for-Disney movies have been. The story itself is shallow and undeveloped but that isn't surprising in a film of this type. The acting is more than a bit two-dimensional, but I give the actors credit for managing to do anything with the material that they had to work with.
However, it's inexcusable, in my book, to base an entire storyline on the theory that they've created a 'perfect' pop star and then cast an actress who can't sing to save her life. If the girl can't sing, have someone who can record the music!
This actress is a TERRIBLE singer - she was so flat she was usually singing in a totally different key!
Now and Again (1999)
Simply Perfect
The cancellation of this show made me anti-CBS for LIFE. It was easily the best thing they had on at the time and they chose to trash it on what was basically a whim.
This show managed to be incredible without sinking to the level most current 'dramas' do. It was well-written with a great balance of pain and humor and AMAZINGLY well acted by every cast member without any exceptions. Eric Close excelled as a man who truly loved his family (a concept rarely seen on TV these days!) and through a freak accident and even freakier survival is forced not to contact the wife and daughter who believe him to be dead. He also happens to be 'superhuman' as a result and subject to the whim of the scientists who 'created' his superhuman body.
No episode contained any sex, violence, or language that would put it above a PG level (possibly not even G level) but it was entirely entertaining regardless.
Shame on CBS for abandoning this show before it had time to truly shine. I'll certainly never accuse the executives there of intelligence or foresight!
Her Hidden Truth (1995)
Unremarkable but Harmless
This movie is basic Lifetime. Pretty wronged young woman, incredibly hot guy who understands her pain and honestly wants to help her...
To give it credit, this is not the worst movie ever made by Lifetime, in fact, it's probably one of the better ones -- you can take that as commentary on the quality of the movies Lifetime makes if you like.
The circumstances of this movie are not as unbelieveable as one reviewer seemed to believe. And if that reviewer really thought that having a young actress portray this character was some form of child exploitation the they really have no sense of reality whatsoever and should check out some of the older classics in which children smoke or consider the lives of TRULY exploited child actors.
This movie is the kind of guilty pleasure that romance novels are, and shouldn't be expected to rise any higher. You might enjoy it, but chances are you'd never admit it. Since I'm using an alias for this, I'll honestly admit that I loved this movie. And I don't even read romance novels.
