That Peter Crouch Film (2023)
He's big, he's red, an inspiration I said! Peter Crouch
A Brilliant doco for everyone who feels they don't fit in or aren't the "norm", please watch this and let it light up your life.
A great film of striving against adversity, believing in yourself and your abilities, shooting for the moon and landing amongst the stars.
Of which, Pete is truly a shining example to everyone... A genuine character of the modern game, not cut from the same cloth as the generic players, they needed more for his infectious personality.
Packed full of legends of the game, great insights, brutal honesty and big laughs, I love Crouchy even more, and being a life long red, I love the fella alot.
Bravo Pete...
BAM, Bâtisseurs de l'Ancien Monde (2020)
So much potential, but...
After 10 minutes of the 100mph and intonation-less voice over, I just had to turn it off. I love docos like this, but you need the viewer to be able to hear clearly, digest and contemplate the information you're passing on. You can hear in the editing the gaps for breaths have been closed up.
It just makes for a really unbearable audio experience. Shame...
Roger Waters: The Wall (2014)
Powerfully Perfect
It took me a while to get around to this, but I'm so glad I did.
As a kid I remember seeing the video case for the Wall, then a teenager finally listening to it and loving it.
But this, now, surpasses everything. It's a perfect visual representation of the music, it heightens every lyric, every note, and all of the subtext. Even seeing the passion of the audience makes it impossible for you not to be moved.
The Wall as a visual tool is incredible, the visuals are breathtaking, the musicianship impossible to surpass.
Roger Waters Sir, you are not only a legend, but a god like genius. Thank you for this incredible art, the deeply important and moving message and for the beautiful music.
Star Wars Forces of Destiny (2017)
Star Wars as it was intended... for the kids
Forces of Destiny, compacts everything Lucas wanted to achieve with Star Wars into 3 mins stories.
Action and adventure with a strong moral within the narrative.
Yes it's simple animation, and yes the stories are short and very twee. But that's the point, clearly some of "so called" fans missed the point with FOD that it's not made for them.
I sit with my 2 yr old and he loves them, just the right duration for him to keep him entertained and educate him on what's right and wrong.
They're great... don't believe the haters!
Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi (2017)
This is the Star Wars you're looking for...
In my opinion, the greatest Star Wars movie. Made me feel like an 8 year old watching the original trilogy back to back in my local cinema back in '85.
From the opening battle and escape. To the epic fight in Snokes throne room. The wise words of an old friend. Each characters journey, facing fear, anger and conflict takes you on an emotional rollercoaster.
Canto Bight aside, which isn't awful, it serves a wider purpose of showing more than just Rebels and First Order. The Vegas of Star Wars. Says it all...
Force fight, Finn/Phasma fight and a Light Speed collision idea finally come to light in spectacular fashion.
Final battles are equally spectacular, again playing on the "fear leads to anger" trope, the heart of every Star Wars movie.
And a twist of self sacrifice (nod to Obi wan)... The swell of JW score, the beautiful visuals of the western stand off and that reveal... Wow! It still resonates on the 2nd, 3rd and 8th viewing as it did when the cheer went up on opening day.
All wrapped up to a satisfyingly emotional end to a tense and very simple Star Wars movie, but leaving you yearning to see ep9...
Bring it on JJ...
And thank you RJ, for a true fans film. New and interesting, and comfort food familiar Star Wars moments.
The force is strong and burning brightly...
A Ghost Story (2017)
Skip to reading the review subjects... More entertaining
I can see what it was trying to do, but I really didn't care as the first half is dull and pretentious. The monologue in the middle is great and leads you into a better second half. But ultimately your still left as empty as the first half, the lack of script and the lack of subtitles for everything Casey Affleck says. (Or ever said for that matter!)
Watch if you're an insomniac, you'll be asleep in no time.
Or read the subjects of the IMDb reviews, that's far more entertaining.
Ghostbusters (2016)
Calm down... I'd call these gals!
Firstly, some of these reviews are blown WAY out of proportion. People hating for the sake of hating. It's a movie, not a political statement or positioning. And i might add, reviews done before it was released! HELLO?!
Secondly, most of all the original people involved were involved in this re-imagining! So suck it up and deal with it. Watch it for what it is. A very good movie for it's time.
The 1st act is genuinely laugh out loud funny and jump out your seat scary. The 2nd act gets a little lost but keeps you on the plot with a few laughs and more scares. The 3rd act seems to fly by, and although not as funny or scary it is satisfying. The girls turn in great comedy performances as does Hemsworth. It does stumble where it tries to nod to the original and should of kept along it's own unique path. Although as an origin story, it was always going to be difficult not to tread on the original's toes. But if it wasn't in New York with Armageddon beckoning there'd of been uproar. Besides the "Ain't no bitches gonna hunt no ghosts", they address all the haters with a subtle hand in the face, because, who cares about the haters!?
I was 7 when the 1st came out and loved it, my niece and nephew are a little older and will love it too...
So, grow up a little bit, be a big kid and love it. And more importantly go watch it before hating!
