The Misadventures of Romesh Ranganathan (2018)
Very funny
As a brown man, it's satisfying to see a brown Conan like travel show.
That's where the similarities end though. Romesh is almost equally goofy but always in his Brit elements.
The show is on the slower side- as in there's nothing Big Bang happening, but is overall a fun watch,
Marc Maron: More Later (2015)
Brilliant
Brilliant! Engaging throughout. My first special of Marc, reminded me slightly of CK, but a slightly less dark version. Overall, very little content that was flat. In fact the special felt a bit short at the end. Draws a lot from his actual neuroticsm and his marriage and drug abuse. Now that I'm loving his podcast as well, will go dig his older stuff- a late discovery for me.
Yennai Arindhaal (2015)
Lengthy and Loud- Only for Ajith Fans
This film is about Ajith Kumar (Sathyadev IPS) and his life in various roles as a lover, husband and a Dad. He faces opposition from Arun Vijay(Victor). His love interests are Trisha and Anushka.
Pros Trisha is just gorgeous in every frame while Ajith and Arun are the most handsome people you could come across for their roles. Ajith's screen presence is just unbelievable. No wonder, the movie is screening to full houses and even multiplex audience cant resist whistling and howling to their "Thala". Arun Vijay has visibly put in a lot of hard work and his stylist has given him a very apt look for a negative shade. Anushka has not got much of a role except to drool over Ajith's looks and she fits into it quite easily. Gautham Menon's plot is wafer thin, but his cinematographer has got him well covered here. Some of the scenes, especially the song, Unakenna Venum, has been shot in some of the best locales in India.
Cons The movie, like other cop movies from Gautham Menon's filmography follows a pretty predictable plot with a small twist. But the by the time twist is revealed, the movie almost gives you a headache with it's yelling over phone calls and BGMs. The climax, it seems, comes a bit too late in the movie.
Coherence (2013)
Time Travel- A perfect introduction
If you are keen to learn about Time Travel or on Parallel Universe, this is the go to movie. The plot revolves around how a set of people encounter a parallel Universe under a fictional event of a Comet striking the Earth. It delves into the possibilities that arise during such an event in a good detail with the right amount of science, drama and humor put together into a tight script. The entire cast just ease into their roles. The characters are in a get together and with a slight reflection of their past, they deal with the issue at hand. The female protagonist has pulled of a brilliant act here.
The best movie till date, on such possibilities, were depicted in the movie- Interstellar, a small portion of which I think is very well explained in this movie.
Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) (2014)
Existential Crisis
An aging actor, played by Michael Keaton, tries to sort his priorities out. His struggle with a multitude of things ongoing forms the core of the movie. Every character in the movie is so well etched that each has a struggle of its own that it is trying to deal with. Whether it is the people to deal with or careers or themselves, the fight is very evident. Each is in his/her own rat race to some place that they don't even know of. Ed Norton plays the perfect foil to Keaton in the movie. Lastly, this movie is not just about actors or Broadway or Hollywood or the critics. This is about life, mine and yours, what we seek from it, and whether we appreciate what we have found or we still keep looking for something else. Whether we pause and reflect on our lives or does somebody needs to stop us to get a reality check. This movie, is the reality check!
Happy (2006)
A treat to watch all the way...
This movie bases itself on the tender love relationship between the hero and the heroine.Allu arjun comes to Hyderabad and starts working in pizza hut.He meets Genelia in a comic episode and then finally there is a confusion regarding a love letter which allows them to come closer to each h other. Genelia's father is a very popular politician who has rivalries as usual with quite a few people, major one being the new S.I. who comes to town. There is sequence which leads to incidents wherein the S.I. seeks revenge for the mistreatment meted out to him by the politician. The technical values of the movie are maintained very well as usual by the very talented Karunakaran. The songs are very very well shot and are simply a visual treat. The comedy part and the love relationship between the male and the female protagonists are depicted superbly. The mood of the movie changes from a very light hearted first half to a very sinister second half, wherein the hero constantly keeps facing newer and newer troubles.Manoj Bajpai acts in a very different role- to say a very comic one, which is quite different from his usual style and the director has excelled in getting good performance from this talented actor too, breaking all the language barriers if any. Go for the movie if are an ardent fan of any of the stars or even otherwise you will simply love it for the comedy and the songs.
The Dark Knight (2008)
Its the Joker all the way !
Joker....joker .... and the joker. There is nothing else you could possibly thinking about once you complete the movie. The batman(Christian bale) had been overshadowed to such an extent by a superlative performance by Heath Ledger that already his role has been doing the rounds for a posthumous Oscar nomination. The movie's sober and sinister mood continues from its prequel. It has in fact intensified manifold due the very presence of the sociopathic character-Joker.The writing is on the wall-the joker has occupied the driving seat.Batman has been pushed into a corner due the joker's antisocial deeds and has a tough job cleaning up the city of Gotham. He has to his aid two trusted people in Harvey Dent and the Commissioner. How he achieves the final objective forms the crux the movie. The movie can be viewed in two ways-the superficial one in enjoying the heroics of batman and the insanity of joker, and the other way is to try and understand the motive of the joker-the man with no rules,he who feels is incomplete without the batman.the second perspective though can be well left for second timers.
Kung Fu Panda (2008)
Rollicking fun
After a dud like Shrek 3 at the BO, you would expect Dreamworks to be back with a bang, and here they are.It is really a fun movie to watch the plight of a very lovable and cuddly panda(Jack Black) take all the troubles in the Kung Fu arena.Generally we come under the common misconception that animation movies are childish and stuff. But this one truly rocks. We have the "wise" red panda(Dustin Hoffman) overlooking upon all the things. Go for it on case you need a movie to watch this weekend. The plot has been crafted very meticulously, keeping in view that the humor element always remains in the movie. There are a couple of battle scenes pictured beautifully too.Its never too late to watch such a movie,a complete treat to your senses.
