My Name Is Khan (2010)
Khan's best role in his career
This film is epic. It will make you laugh, cry and have you on the edge of your seat. Khan is sensational in this, he deserves an Oscar for his role as the autistic Rizwan Khan, without a doubt his best piece of acting to date. Kajol, as always, is beautiful and brilliant. Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol are always a pleasure to see paired together as on-screen lovers, but this is their best together as husband and wife, Rizwan and Mandira. You are there with the characters all the way through this movie, and that's always a great thing with any movie, feeling with the characters, and that's most certainly what you will do with this movie as you watch all the up and downs the main character goes through. From his close relationship with his mother despite his autism, falling in love, finding home and family, watching as he slowly loses all he has gained after the crisis of 9/11, and then how he tries to get it back. This film is extremely moving and touching, I would watch it again anytime!
Twilight (2008)
I love Twilight!!!
I saw this film just yesterday and I'm already planning to see it a second time at the cinema! Its so romantic.
The acting from the two main stars were great. 10/10 for the acting! They were very realistic as the fantasy Romeo and Juliet. The romantic dialogue gave me the chills.
In case you do not know what it is about or if you're thinking about seeing it, this is what is about. Its about teenage girl Bella who moves to live with her father in the city Forks. She quite quickly makes friends at the high school, but then her life is about to change forever when she meets the strange Edward Cullin. Bella is fascinated by him, and they begin to get close. Then when Edward saves Bella from a car about to hit her, by pushing it away with his bare hands, she realises that there is something strange about him and his "family", and she intends to find out. The results of her investigation equal only one thing..... Edward is a vampire. Bella confronts Edward, and he confesses to the fact. But now Edward and Bella are in love, so its too late to turn back. The closer Bella becomes with Edward's family, the more she endangers herself. Sorry, you'll have to see it to find out what happens to the lovers.
I loved it, and for me.... thats all that matters.
The Phantom of the Opera (2004)
Amazing!
This is such a wonderful movie! The music was is excellent and at times very moving. The acting deserves a 10/10 from Gerard Butler, Emmy Rossum, Patrick Wilson and Miranda Richardson. Emmy Rossum was incredible for a girl of just sixteen! The rest of the cast were very good as well. The costumes was one of my favourite things about this film. I thought Christine's dress during the song "Think of me" and "Angel of music" was beautiful. I love the outfits. The story is very romantic. This is in case you don't know what its about. Its about young chorus girl Christine Daae. Ever since coming to the opera house, the phantom has looked over and guarded Christine. When Christine's amazing voice is discovered by the opera owners, the phantom becomes obsessed with her. Then Roule (Christine's childhood sweetheart) appears, which brings the phantom's jealousy to the highest. Everyone sets a trap to catch the phantom, but the phantom knows it straight away, and sets a trap of his own to take Christine away. The phantom's trap succeeds, which results in the opera house going up in flames. Roule tries to find Christine in the phantom's den, unknown to him that this was also part of the phantom's trap. The phantom threatens Christine that if she refuses him then Roule will die. Christine is about to accept to stay with him, and then kisses him. But then the phantom realises his bitter-sweet victory, so tells Christine to forget him and allows her to go away with Roule. Does that sound like your thing? Then buy it!
I recommend this to all opera music lovers and romantic film lovers.
Devdas (2002)
Best bollywood film ever!!
This has to be one of the most romantic films ever, ever made! It definitely deserves 10 stars.
I love the storyline. Its about the lovers Devdas and Paro. Devdas is from a wealthy status family in India and Paro is of a poor family. Devdas and Paro live next to each other as children, and therefore become childhood sweethearts. Then, Devdas is sent away to school, and they are both separated. Ten years later Devdas comes back. Obviously, they fall in love. Because of their difference in fortune Devdas's father forbids them to be together, so Devdas goes away and tries to forget about Paro. But Devdas realises he can't live without Paro and returns only for him to find Paro is about to have an arranged marriage to an older man. So once again Devdas and Paro are separated, but this time for good. Devdas becomes an alcoholic as he tries desperately to recover from losing Paro through his own fault. Eventually, Devdas becomes seriously ill, and is told he will soon die. As he's moments from death, he remembers the promise he made to Paro (to go to her doorstep when he dies), and sets out to fulfil it. He makes it to his destination, but unfortunately Paro does not know he is there. When she finally finds out, she runs to Devdas to be with him, but doesn't make it in time. Its so tragic!! The acting is amazing from all the cast. Especially Shahrukh Khan (Devdas) and Aishwarya Rai's (Paro) performance, its no wonder they won so many awards! Maduri Dixit (Chandramuki) was also very good.
The music is wonderful. Its one of the best things about the film in my opinion. All the costumes were beautiful in this film! I really loved Chandramuki's outfit during the song "maar dala".
10/10! Excellent film!
North & South (2004)
Loved it!!
What a fantastic series! At first I wasn't going to buy it, because I thought it sounded too much like Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice. But I decided to give it a chance and I certainly didn't regret it. It has now become one my favourite series of all time! Its just so romantic!
It is very like the Pride and Prejudice story (man and woman meet and don't like each other, then end up falling in love). I actually saw it on DVD before reading the novel, which is strange for me. I do wish that one or two scenes more from the book had been added to the series, but that doesn't change my rating and admiration for it. I know they made another adaptation I think in the 50's or 60's with Patrick Stewart, but that was ages ago. I don't understand why they wait so long to make new films like that.
My favourite scenes was the dinner-party scene, the riot scene, the proposal scene, the "look back at me" scene, and most of all the ending scene.
All the performances were good. Richard Armitage (John Thornton) was excellent in his role. Wonderful acting from the main characters. I definitely recommend this series. You won't regret it!
Tess of the D'Urbervilles (2008)
its about time!
At last! This should have broad casted long ago. Why on earth did producers wait ten years to do another adaptation of Thomas Hardy's Tess of the D'urbervilles?! Well, I suppose it was worth while, after all, this was fantastic! Gemma Areton is the best actress we've had on T.V. in years, her wonderful performance had me choked up for over a week! I'm telling you, one day that performance is going to make history! Every episode there seemed to be a reason for a hankie. All the other cast were great as well. I've fallen in love with this series. I liked the scenery in this too. Its one of my favourite novels, but I confess, I'd rather watch it than read it. Its not as long anyway! Again, I loved this!
Jane Eyre (2006)
Fantastic!
This is the best Jane Eyre adaptation to date in my opinion. The acting is great from all the cast. Ruth Wilson was meant for the role of Jane Eyre! How could she not have won the best actress award?! Her amazing acting skills had me close to tears! For me, the best thing about the series is Toby Stephans. He's such a brilliant actor. This Jane Eyre series is probably one of the best things that has happened to the BBC in years! Jane Eyre has been my favourite novel since I was twelve years old, and I've read the book six times all the way through! I've seen most adaptations of Jane Eyre, and I've always found at least one fault, but with this adaptation I can't find a single one! I love the scenery too. I definitely recommend this if your into classic, period romantic dramas. This is the best!
Lost in Austen (2008)
one of my favourite series of the year!
I loved this series. The scene where Amanda sings "down town" was the funniest thing i've seen all year! I have to say that my favourite scene through out the series was the lake scene. When Mr Darcy declared his love for Amanda gave me goosebumps! The chemistry between the two main characters was such a joy to watch every week. I really enjoyed this series, right from episode one till episode four! I strongly recommend this! The storyline, acting from the crew, and the scenery are all equally fantastic. For me its Elliot Cowen vs Matthew Mcfadyen in the role of Darcy. I know that Colin Firth is said to be the best Darcy, but for me... its just not there. Jemima Rooper was great too. I expected to be jealous of Amanda at the end, but I just ended up going "awwwwwwwwwww" and also played it back at least twenty times! Loved it, loved it, loved it!
