Dead Space: Downfall (2008 Video)
4/10
Low Expectations, Lower Quality Movie
16 July 2009
Having completed the Dead Space game by EA recently, when I heard there was a prequel movie I gained a bit of interest. Naturally, my expectations were low, as this is based on a video game, and those movies usually turn out horribly (Resident Evil, Alone in the Dark, Far Cry, House of the Dead, Doom, just to name a few).

Renting it from Blockbuster, I came home and popped the disk into my DVD player. What ensued was an hour's worth of blood, gore, some more blood, and not much else; I'll even go on to say that it was even worse than most Sci-Fi Saturday night movies. Character development is virtually non-existent, and you won't really care about what happens to the main characters because they are just, well, there to be killed off in many "creative" fashions.

The film begins as an artifact (or "The Marker" as it's called in the movie and game) is found on the surface of a planet by the mining colony, Aegis 7. It is brought onto a spaceship, the USG Ishimura as people start beginning to have hallucinations and develop violent behavior. As main character Alyssa Vincent and her security team investigate, strange and savage mutants that used to be people attack. Apparently, "The Marker" unleashes a sort of alien infection that kills people and mutates dead tissue, turning them into a sort of zombie or mutant. The rest of the movie is basically a gorefest as Vincent and her team try to activate an emergency distress beacon and find some means of escape.

Overall, you should skip this movie even if you were a fan of the game. Bad voice acting, poor animation, predictable plot, and lack of character development really soils this stinker. However, if you happened to be a gorehound and like extremely violent and over-the-top movies, you'll love this.

Anacondas: Trail of Blood (2009 TV Movie)
6/10
Way better than Anaconda 3, but still lacking
6 March 2009
Warning: Spoilers
I saw this on Sci-Fi Channel on it's first air date, and I must say it certainly exceeded my expectations after seeing it's predecessor. The acting in this movie is actually pretty well done; something I was not expecting. Gore is also 20 times better, way better than 3's ketchup packet squeeze effect. But, as always giant snake movies have their cons. Don't expect anything special in the graphics department- the snake in the first Anaconda was even better than the one in this movie. The story is also exceedingly unbelievable, and at some points just plain dumb; the snake regenerates it's head after it gets popped...

The conclusion? This installment in the series is pretty much on par with the first one. It has plenty of action, and for once not every supporting character dies (cliche repeated in every Sci-Fi movie). Only watch this only if you have an open mind or if you are in the mood for some good cheesy fun.

Anaconda 3: Offspring (2008 TV Movie)
1/10
Possibly the worst movie sequel I have ever seen...
4 March 2009
Warning: Spoilers
Although I have never been a "fan" of the Anaconda series of movies, when I heard this would air on Sci-Fi Channel I decided to watch it since I've seen the previous two installments. Big mistake... This movie comes fully equipped with bad acting from all the supporting cast (except for Mr. Davies and the Austrailian guy), horrible snake and gore effects, gaping plot holes, absolutely retarded story (Giant snakes are the key to immortality?!), and half-@ssed directing. *SPOILER ALERT* Also, the sudden change of Hasselhoff's character at the end of the movie from good guy to bad guy was unnecessary in the highest degree. It's almost as if the writers of this abomination decided to add a *startling plot twist* after the completion of the movie and revised the script, as his turn makes no sense at all. *END SPOILERS* I seriously advise against renting or buying this movie, but if you have a totally overwhelming urge to watch this, don't say I didn't warn you...
