Slumdog Millionaire (2008)
Definitely worth all the awards it got!
I have to say that I didn't like this movie at first. I was half-way through the book when I watched the movie. I didn't get a chance to see it in theaters and I wanted to read the book before I saw the movie. I decided that I really wanted to see the movie before I finished the book. I bought the movie and watched it that night. Now the reason why I say that I didn't like it at first was because the book was completely different from the movie.
After maybe ten or fifteen minutes into the movie, I completely disregarded what I read and actually watched it as a movie and stopped comparing. I found it to be so great, they made a real slum look so beautiful. This was definitely worth watching and I love it.
If you read the book first, don't compare it. It is what will ruin a movie for ya. I do recommend that anyone that has seen the movie, they should read the book. The book is amazing, just like the movie!
Lost (2004)
I was hooked
I didn't end up watching the Lost seasons until I believe they came out with the 4th season on DVD. I believe when it first aired, I was into my school activities and working. So I missed trying to watch them. I believe that my first reaction to it was that it was just like the Survivior show. People stranded on an island. Seen it.
Although I did start watching it because my boyfriend told me that it was good. Out of pure boredom sitting at my new job with nothing to do, I decided that I would watch it. I got to admit that I wasn't hooked after watching the first episode, Pilot 1. I walked away from it thinking it was good, but never expected to get hooked on it. There was a ton of hype of losing sleep over it and I didn't see that till I watched the second pilot episode. I was hooked from then on.
I was reading some of the negative comments that people posted about not understanding what was going on after watching the first episode. I think it's unfair to just judge something from a first episode. Especially since no season of anything is going to tell you what's going on the first episode. That's just plain common sense. I do admit you don't find out what exactly is going on right away, but you get to know and love all of the characters, and possibly hate some of them. That and the fact that each episode leaves you with a great cliffhanger, is just awesome. I haven't really seen anything like that, that will leave you guessing. You try to figure out what's going on before they tell you, and I love how you get to use your imagination. It's something that society has forgotten.
Definitely something that leaves you to your own imagination.
Mystery Science Theater 3000 (1988)
One of my favorites!
When I first was told about this show I was skeptical about it. A bunch of guys talking through an entire movie? Not good. When I actually watched it I thought it was hilarious. I got hooked instantly. The fact that these characters are making fun of really bad movies (which we do anyway) was genius. Even so, I find myself making comments about it while they are doing their own. It's sad that they don't make them anymore, just because I've seen my share of bad movies recently. Ones that I make fun of all the time, and I would love to see them make fun of them also. All in all, I'm not done collecting the sets, as they come out with new ones. (One coming out I think on June 7th)I can't wait to have them all.
