The Truth About Charlie (2002)
shoot me for watching this piece of garbage
While the idea for this film was interesting, it certainly was not well translated on the screen, which is weird b/c usually i like johnathan demme. Thandie Newton is a gifted actress, but in this she comes across at the dumbest woman alive. Not that she is the only character that is completely unbelievable-- in fact, every character seems to think that they are in some other kind of movie, with some other plot. Oh, my husband was just murdered and people are chasing me, but i think that i'll dance a tango with strangers and try to do the nasty with some guy that just happens to "show up" at the most convenient times. Completely awful film. I didn't even pay to see it, and i want my money back.
Kiss Me, Guido (1997)
This movie has it all!
Who could say no to a movie that provides something for everyone! You've got gays, straights, hot italian guys, pretty ladies, comedy and romance, and of course, Pizza! Sometimes I think that my mother is obsessed with this movie, then I watch it again and remember how cute it is.! Kiss Me Guido is a film about people and differences in a gorgeously wonderful package, through gay and NY Italian stereotypes. Nick Scotti (Frankie) and Anthony DeSando (Pino) fill that need for us girls (and guys) crazy for those italian stallion types with hot bodies. Anthony Barrile (Warren) is fabulous and I think that anyone can relate to Warren, searching for love, friends, and professional satisfaction. I personally really relate to Molly Price's Meryl-- not just because we share a first name-- Meryl is a great character and Price plays her with a perfect combination of sweetness and bitterness. I love to sit down and watch Kiss Me Guido on a Saturday with family and friends.
The Sandlot (1993)
I will love this movie FOR-EV-VER!
I was dragged to this movie b/c i had to take my little brother to the film. Just what a 15 year old wants to do, right? Well, I ended up loving it way more than my brother! For someone growing up in the 80's and 90's, i guess watching the sandlot gave me a taste of what it must have been like to grow up in different times (and to be a boy-- probably different for them).
I think that it's great when a film inspires you and makes you continue to feel special about it after many years. 10 years ago, i watched the Sandlot, then went and saw it over 10 times during the summer-- dragging various high school friends with me to see this kids movie (but they all thanked me afterwards because this is a film that speaks to everyone-- it's funny, cute, exciting-- and sheer joy to watch). Sure I sound corny, but the Sandlot-- if you saw it, you understand my thoughts and feelings!
