Trip Star Studio marketing fiasco
1 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
It's a real shame that Tri Star Studios lacked faith in this picture. They had one of Hollywood's fasted rising talents John Candy in this picture. John's range as an actor is rarely equaled. In Who Is Harry Crumb John Candy plays a character similar to Pink Panther series Inspector Cleasesu with his outrageous disguises and antics although we don't have a "Kato" here Mr. Candy carries the comedy on his broad shoulders. Annie Potts convincingly plays the roll of the gold digger / wicked stepmother. The rest of the cast turn in their own fine performances. I'm confident this film could have been a great success if only Trip Star had acted in their own best interest.

Great Tom Hanks movie.
31 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
We like Tom Hanks movies and noticed this one on MAX. It's a dive into one of the worlds into largest cultures. And a country that is a rising tiger. Tom Hank's character 'Alan" is playing the hand life has delt him and doing the best he knows how to meet the needs of his college age daughter Kit. His ex-wife is a barracuda that tries to undermine his relationship with their daughter. Alan is haunted by his part in transferring US jods to China. (In reality it was the United auto workers union trying to unionize Schwinn that caused them to move manufacturing to Asia) Alan shows his true character when he's invited to a race party of sorts and is offered a chance at casual sex. Overall his life course is better in the end.

Worth it to see a young John Candy
2 November 2021
I'll preface my comments by saying that my wife and I are big fans of John Candy. And although Find the Lady is no Uncle Buck or Planes Trains and Automobiles, it is a treat to recognize many of his classic mannerisms. John plays a young bumbling "Gumshoe" investigating a kidnapping case with a more seasoned partner.

Mickey Rooney is another treat in this movie. I guess perhaps he needed the work to keep up with his alimony obligations? He didn't phone it in here, he puts a lot into his character. And his running comments about working with mobster Bugsy Siegel put a smile of my face.

While it's not the most memorable movie for Mr. Candy it is fun to see him in an earlier role before he became a star.
