Adams æbler (2005)
What a movie!
I honestly haven't seen a movie like this before...quirky, dark, moody and sometimes violent...Adam's Apples had me tied in knots by the end of the movie! What I am discovering about Danish film is that you actually get to know all of the characters and their quirks...then, most of the story evolves around how the individual characters interact with each other.
Strange as it may seem, I could relate to each and every character and how they dealt with what life threw at them...even the doctor was weird but interesting.
I can't express enough how fantastic this movie is...if you are curious about Danish Film...watch this first!
Red Riding Hood (2011)
Folktales and imagination
Did I go and see the same movie as everyone else? Because the one I saw was wonderful!
I think too many people have gotten so far removed from the basics of storytelling using the oral traditions of folktales (fairy tales, myths and legends too)that imagination suffers. The bottom line of storytelling using folktales is to not only to entertain, but teach as well. Plus, stories are adapted to the times of the moment, what part of the world you live in and what the socio-economic situation is. So the imagery and characters will change to accommodate understanding.
I enjoyed the other "wolf" story references that were interwoven throughout "Red Riding Hood"-it made it fun. As far as the "Peter" character reference that another reviewer mentioned-the story "Peter and the Wolf" comes to mind...not sure about the black clothes though.
Supernatural: Simon Said (2006)
By far my favorite episode
For me, this episode is so memorable because of Dean's slapstick comedy while trying not to do what he is told via Andrew's mind control. I haven't laughed that hard since Mork and Mindy. It just seemed like everyone involved with this episode had fun doing it, and it showed.
I really enjoy the scare factor combined with the wry wit and sometimes outright hilarity. The weaving of Urban Legends with the brothers story is what hooked me and the family connection is what I really enjoy. Both Jensen and Jared do such a great job playing brothers who hunt and kill monsters to save and protect people. And I'm so in love with the '67 Chevy Impala...I wonder if it gets good gas mileage?
My Bloody Valentine (2009)
Bloody good...
I'm not a huge fan of slasher flicks, but this movie was good...the storyline was a little vague, but the acting held it together. Some of the gory scenes were hilarious, that could be because I didn't watch it in 3D-I get headaches when I watch 3D movies. Other gory scenes were gross but still not too bad for me to watch.
Now, I'm a major fan of Supernatural on CW, and a big fan of Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki...so I decided to see what their other works are like, so far I haven't been disappointed. Jensen's character in this movie is very convincing, as well as Kerr Smith's. I also enjoyed Jaime King's performance...but I think her character was a bit wishy-washy at the end-the script-not her performance.
Betsy Rue was frickin' hilarious, even when her scene turned scary. This girl has guts for what she did, and she did it well. I'm sure the guys enjoyed her scenes immensely.
Definitely not for kids...in fact I told my 9 year old that he couldn't watch it until he turned 18.
Devour (2005)
Better than I thought
According to most of the reviews for this movie, I thought it was going to be cheesy and lame. Boy was I surprised, Jensen Ackles did a great job, Shannyn Sossamon is always a pleasure to watch and Dominique Swain was trippy good. I also enjoyed the supporting cast-it's always fascinating to watch William Sadler-he constantly holds your attention, no matter what he's in or what role he plays. It's pretty neat to see that Jensen Ackles Dad, Alan Ackles, was also in this movie...
I thought the story line was pretty good, and I really liked how the movie ended. Most movies of this genre end on a crappy note, this one didn't.
