Brokeback Mountain (2005)
The Most Beautiful Film Of The Year
I went into the theater and sat down with high expectations, most likely because of all the high ratings and critic reviews. I'm just going to say, that Brokeback Mountain lived up to everything I heard. In fact, it was better than I expected. The way that love is portrayed in this film is nothing short of amazing. You can really see the chemistry between Ennis and Jack, something that is usually done in poor taste. The love scenes seemed genuine and true, instead of raunchy or pornographic. Heath and Jake really got into their characters, and showed believable emotion when they were missing each other. This movie tugs at your heartstrings, it shows that love is love, no matter who it is between. Brokeback Mountain comes highly recommended, a very strong 10/10, and I can't wait to buy the DVD come April 2006.
Trash (1999)
Plot?
A lot of people seemed to have liked the film, so I feel somewhat bad giving it a bad review. But after sitting through 96 minutes of it, I feel I have to do so. Where the heck is the plot in this film?! I must have missed it, I was waiting for the storyline to unfold and nothing happened. Sure the ending was "somewhat shocking" but they didn't build up to it. I forgot who was who half of the time, so they didn't really develop the characters. The acting was so-so, most of the time it was believable, but I was able to see through it most of the time. So... without giving anything away, I must say that unless you like the actors in the film, there is no real reason to watch this movie. I could be mistaken, but I just didn't understand why there was so little, or too much of the film. I can't decide which one that would be, so I say judge for yourselves. I don't even know if renting it would be a good idea, the cost and all...
Plot: 0/10 Characters: 1/10 Acting: 2/10 Overall: 3/10 I feel like that's too high really, I am staying with my vote up at the top.
A Home at the End of the World (2004)
Wonderful
This movie was better than I expected, I was expecting some half acting tallents and some bitter story lines. This does not do the book justice but it is great nonetheless. Collin brings something to the role that others couldn't. I can't quite put my finger on it. He seems so much like the character, like he was acting like himself throughout the movie. The other characters were great too, you really get a feel of their personality. It was a real talent to find actors who looked alike throughout the years. The 2 people that played young Bobby looked like brothers. Most might not like this movie because of the male touching/kissing but it really is what they say. Just love
The Grudge (2004)
Not what I expected
This movie, I thought would have a really complex plot, like The Ring, or at least one you could grasp onto. It did not. It did have it's moments, scary parts where things jumped out or made creepy sounds. But I really wasn't catching onto it. I thought maybe the movie would have a great twist at the end or a good ending. This movie ended abruptly, without any answers, hopefully there will be a second (like the second Ju-On) that will fill in the gaps. The creepy parts were creative, but sometimes predictable... I like sarah michelle geller (sp?) more now though, which is saying quite a bit. The other characters were not developed enough, it seemed like the movie didn't last long enough for things to really get going. I thought the beginning was scary, but the ending wasn't. It all depends on what scares you, this one didn't do it for me. Although my sister says she is going to have nightmares, I probably won't. All in all, I give this movie a 6/10
Open Water (2003)
2 hours of people floating in water
I heard this movie was good, but it was nothing like I thought it was. It was basically 2 hours of a couple floating in the ocean, seeing sharks and getting bitten by fish. It was a little scary at points, but other than that, I really wish I had a watch on my wrist because I was really bored and always wanted to know how much longer it was going to last. I really saw the ending coming, probably from when they first got left behind. The acting was pretty good for some people without a lot of experience, but overall I really wished I hadn't paid full price to see it. It really sunk in weird to me, I didn't want to eat after and was really quiet. I don't know if that was because it was because it seemed so real, or because I paid 13.00 to go see it. The camera work seems very fuzzy throughout the movie, but the underwater work is good. You may wonder if the fuzzyness is caused by the theater screen. But it isn't. Overall I give this movie a 4/10
Party Monster (2003)
Good. Evil. Fun
I for one liked this movie, because they did a pretty good job acting just like the real people, from interviews I have seen and the book I have read.
The costumes were brilliant, and very creative. I looked at this movie as an expression of art, not for the best acting. However, Maculay did not do as good of a job as Seth Green. I felt like I was watching a play, on stage, and not a movie. All the bouncy acting, colorful costumes and bizzare dancing. I bought the movie for 6.00 brand new, so even if it wasn't the best, I didn't waste my money. Overall I give this movie: Acting: 3/5 Costumes: 5/5 Sets: 2.5/5 Plot: 3.5/5 Overall: 7/10
A good movie to watch at home
Radio (2003)
Terrible unfortunately
No offense to anyone who saw this and liked it, but I hated it! It dragged on and on and there was not a very good plot, also, too simple and the acting was so so...
I would give this snorefest a 2 at the most
The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003)
Stunning, absolutely stunning...
This has to be the best movie I have ever seen in my entire life! The acting, the storyline, the action and the end of an amazing trilogy!
I must have cried about 18 times throughout the movie, the time flew by and I never wanted it to end. The characters and the bonds you form with them is so rare, I have never gotten into a movie so much!
Please see it, you won't regret it! I loved this movie and want to see it again and again!
Overall: 10/10
P.S Doesn't Pippin have a gorgeous voice?
Hollywood Homicide (2003)
No offense to anyone but this was awful!
The acting was just horrible, so was the story line! Even I was getting annoyed with the constant cellphone thing! it wasn't that funny either, but I guess you have to give the people credit for trying so hard. I feel sorry for the actors when this movie was looked down on by critics.
Acting: 1/5 Storyline: 2/10
Over all: 3/10
I didn't really even want to rent it...
Bad Boys II (2003)
It was alright
I saw this movie last night when we rented it, it was okay, the humor was good, but the acting was so so. The swearing didn't bug me as much as 8 Mile but the continuous "Dawg" and "yo man" 'Street/rap/talk thing' got really irritating. Acting: 2/5 Storyline: 3/5
Over all: 5/10
Go see this in the cheap theater or rent it
The Cat in the Hat (2003)
Cream of the crap
WARNING! SEVERE, HARSH SPOILERS!!!
If you want to have a good time with your kids, or friends, you won't at this movie. It's absolutely terrible! This isn't for children either, nor is it for good people. Maybe big immature babies. When the cat makes one sexual innuendo after another, it's clear you wasted your time and money! This movie is not at all funny! I didn't even THINK about laughing throughout the whole thing. Myers laughs enough at his own stupid jokes for everyone anyway. The obvious language is too harsh for little kid's ears, I actually heard 4 year olds calling each other "dirty hoe's" after the film and laughing it up. My sister works at the theater and she said people walked out half way through the movie and wanted refunds, of course they got free movie passes, and they went and saw something else like "Brother Bear" or "Elf".
After I saw this I got my refund and saw Texas Chainsaw Massacre instead, and believe it or not I would gladly give that movie awards after seeing CRAP in the hat!
Please, please, please don't waste you're money, and have a good time at another film.
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003)
Chills, Spills and Thrills
Well, I must say... That was quite the interesting movie. Ever since I heard that Marilyn Manson scored the soundtrack, (www.mtv.com for details) I wanted to see it, whether it was bad or not. Going to the movie, thinking it was going to be awful, I realized, time really does fly when one's having fun. I was impressed that the acting pretty good, and it seemed like it could really happen. Hats off to Jessica Beil (AkA Erin, which is my name too :D)
The movie was really fun because everytime something scary happened the whole audience screamed, and it was packed full of people Some girls were crying when we walked out saying "They'd never see it again. and how can that kill still be out there?!" I personally found it realistic, and worth my money, but it's not for non-horror fans. You have to appriciate what a good movie this was since other scary movies are such a let down lately. I say go see it with your friends for a good time, and scream your brains out.
Overall, I give this film a 9/10
House of 1000 Corpses (2003)
Don't make the same mistake I did *WARNING* SPOILERS!
All I heard about all year was how great this movie was, and how scary it was. I'm going to be very blunt and fair. It isn't any of those things. I was horrified, in a bad way. The acting was so bad I almost left the room, the gory violence was WAY too much, and it only seemed that way because it was quite fake. There was so many plot holes I lost count! This is probably the WORST movie I have ever seen in my entire life! As soon as it ended, I grabbed the disk from my DVD player, put it back in it's case and returned it for my money back (To my misfortune, we bought it) That's 2 hours I'll never get back, save your time and money and don't see it. If Rob Zombie is giving up his music career for this... I am truely sad... all in all 0/10
The Matrix Reloaded (2003)
You do NOT want to miss this movie!
You're making a big mistake if you don't watch this, trust me, I thought I'd hate it, and now I love it! I can't get enough of this trilogy! I think the only thing wrong is too much computer animation, but other than that, you won't be disappointed.
Anger Management (2003)
Anger Managment Was...alright but very funny!
*May Contain Spoilers and Language* Take my advice people! I suggest that you wait for the dollar theater or DvD. I expected a lot more, still, there were a lot of funny parts, just not, fall of your chair funny. The storyline was kind of predictable, with the classic girl that Adam Sandler is going after and get's sidtracked by some lunatic. (In Happy Gilmore, there was the famous golfer and in Big daddy there was that stupid annoying kid) And of course everything turns out fine. The beginning was horrible, mind you the rest of the movie was good. The bashing of gays and lesbians wasn't too appealing either... They didn't really bash them as much as they made them look like dirty, sex-driven perverts who wanted to do nothing but make asses of themselves. When i saw the pert about the transvestite, i almost fell out of my chair! Marilyn Manson could have made a better one, and we all know with HIS acting abilities he belongs in a much better film.
All in All I enjoyed it, I was just glad I didn't pay for it.
Dreamcatcher (2003)
Dream Catcher is a thriller that never quits
I have heard quite a lot of bad news about this movie, but being a sci-fi fan, I found the movie quite enjoyable. *note: this movie is not for the Squeamish* When you see worms come from the southern regions and attack people then take their form, some parts were really funny. "Quote: you not Joansey!" And That duddin's kid, or whatever his name is, was pretty freaky. Half of the time you didn't understand what he was saying, but that's okay.
Seeing Joansey in his own Memory was kinda cool, seeing what he saw in his mind, hiding in it from Mr. Grey. Very interesting story line, just what you'd expect from Stephen King, makes me want to read the book. I understood every little bit of the movie, and I would like to see it again. I wonder what it'll be like on DvD, when i was in the theater, you could really appreciate the sound effects, also, the movie had good music, even if it didn't have lyrics.
My final statement, go see this movie if you like twists and sci-fi, but do not see it if you are looking for Academy award Material.
