Oppenheimer (I) (2023)

Room temperature water
16 March 2024
My honest opinion is that if the creators of this production spent half as much effort into a truly captivating script, as they spent on trying to make this as artsy and pretentious as possible, well, then this might actually have turned out to be a great film. Unfortunately they did not, so it isn't.

The only truly impressive piece of acting in this utterly unremarkable film, were the couple of minutes of screen time with Gary Oldman, as president Truman. If anyone deserved an Oscar from their contributions to this film, it would have been him.

It took me several days to finish this film. I was only able to sit and focus on it for about a half hour at a time, and I am beyond grateful that I did not fall for the Barbenheimer hype. I would have walked out on two films that day.

Griselda (2024)

This could have been another Narcos
26 January 2024
Such a wasted opportunity to create a truly captivating series. Main actress is way too old (Sofia Vergara was 51 during filming, while the real Griselda was only 35 in 1978, the year she arrived in Miami) Truly horrible work by the makeup department, you could clearly see layers of makeup on top of a latex mask. There's enough material in the extraordinary life of Griselda for at least two seasons and they chose to do a miniseries. This story was completely rushed, and it shows. Hopefully another network will see an opportunity to do Griselda justice by making a proper series out of her extraordinary life.

One Piece (2023– )

Cringe overload
3 September 2023
I've never watched the anime series by the same name, or read the One Piece manga (if it even exists), but was pumped to watch this, and have a nice weekend binge, expecting it to be at least mildly entertaining, based on the high ratings. Well, that didn't happen, unfortunately. I don't even know where to begin with this, but the basis of the extremely problematic foundation this production is the fact that they didn't direct the cast to behave like actual human beings, with natural human mannerisms, body language and speech, but instead made them act and speak like animated characters. The end result is just completely bizarre and creepy and extremely impossible to relate to, as an adult human person. The costumes are another Incredible fail, because instead of creating a wardrobe appropriate for the time period this all is supposed to take place, they copied the costumes of the animated characters. It looks absolutely ridiculous, and many of the clothing choices make no sense. From the pink hair to t-shirts and goofy glasses, it's just laughable how these people failed the assignment. You should have made a serious realistic sci-fi/fantasy series, based on the comics/anime, but adapted to reality and made it as realistic and historically accurate as possible. I've made three attempts to finish the first episode, but I just can't do it, it's horrid, I can't torture myself like that.

I quite enjoy this
26 September 2022
As someone who didn't read the books, and didn't become a superfan of the literature, I find myself enjoying this series for what it is.

A fantastic, beautiful story about the people in the Lord of the rings and Hobbit universe, generations earlier than those films take place. I'm not bothered by new characters invented by the team at Prime, because I wouldn't have known they're not in the books.

I'm very much invested in all the characters we've been introduced to, they all play a part in telling this story, and they do it so well. Cinematography is brilliant, although the GCI could be better in some scenes, so it's not absolutely perfect, but it doesn't take anything away from the story.

Those who hate this series, must be the hardcore book fans, who simply cannot accept any deviation from the books, and that's a shame. They're missing out on an amazing viewing experience about the characters they love so much and the world they know so well.

Elvis (2022)

First half ruined it
10 August 2022
This was the most bizarre film experience I think I've ever had. Started watching it, and absolutely hated it. It felt like watching an extended film trailer, completely disjointed and all over the place. Had to take several breaks during the first half of the film and was chatting with a friend who said he had to turn it off, it was so bad. I was tempted to do the same, because honestly, this was the biggest pile of crap I've seen in a long time, but I decided I would suffer through it, until the end. Then, about halfway through the film, it seemed to pull itself together and I could connect with Elvis and the other characters, in a way I didn't at all at first, and I found myself enjoying the film. By the time it ended, I'd become completely immersed and along for the ride. But how to rate something that was half garbage and half enjoyable? Had the first half been as good as the second half, I'd rated it 7-8/10. Therefore, it's only fair I give it a total of 4. The first half truly was terrible, absolutely terrible. This might not be the most useful review, but it tells my experience.

Not bad, Tubi TV
24 July 2022
This was my first time watching a Tubi TV original documentary, and I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed it.

Although, not quite the same level of quality, as Netflix documentaries, for example, I think they did pretty well, dipping their toes into true crime. I did not care much for the narrator, as he sounds like the voice of every narrator in 80s & 90s horror movie trailers, and I just found his voice and manner of speaking very annoying.

This is definitely a good watch for any true crime fan, and especially those who also listen to true crime podcasts, as they have few hosts of population pods as commentators in the program.

I hope Tubi TV keeps doing more of these, and perhaps they'll keep refining them into higher quality content, as they go.

The Motive (2020–2021)

Amateur hour
13 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This story could have been wrapped up in 30 mins. Kid kills his parents, gets sentenced for manslaughter, gets 9 years, gets out, gets married, has kids, and despite the title, they don't present a motive for the murders.

To m, it's obvious that this kid is a psychopath and a narcissist, and if he truly is a genius, he felt held back by his average family. He kills them, knows he'll get to inherit everything if he dodges a murderer conviction, so he claims some ridiculous green thing told him to do it. Worked out great, he got what he wanted, because he was surrounded by idiots, even in the court room. And he lived happily ever after. The end.

A father's love
12 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Although the storytelling in this documentary wasn't the best, this is truly a touching story of a father's determination to avenge the murder of his daughter and expose her killer for what he is. I'm always horrified by how easily sexual predators were able to get away with what they did, back in the day, not very long ago at all. I'm truly grateful that this has changed in later years, and even powerful men are made to pay for their crimes and stopped from harming more victims. I watched it in original language, with subtitles, as I always do.

The Batman (2022)

Absolute nonsens
19 April 2022
That's 3 hours of my life I'm never getting back. I realized few minutes in, that it would be a painful watch because I couldn't wait for it to be over, and I was correct. Robert Pattinson is a skilled actor, but he simply does not have what it takes to be Batman. This film was even more painful to watch than emo Peter Parker, and that's saying a lot. The Batman was dull; the dialogues were pointless and uninspired, the storyline utterly uninteresting, I didn't care about any of the characters or what became of them. Batman was a depressed introvert with bad hygiene, 0 charisma, 0 presence, 0 redeeming qualities. If they'd at least put some gore in this 3 hour snoozefest, there might have been something that made me feel anything, watching this, but alas there was not. The most forgettable, boring film I've seen in a long time.

Pure agony

This is the most terrible, boring, meaningless excuse for a film I've had the displeasure of watching in a long, long time. Absolute trash from beginning to end. Do not waste your time on this, like I did. Life's too short.

Brilliant performances by Ben and Ana
21 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I thoroughly enjoyed this film, and found it very well put together and the storyline was perfect. A man can't get his wife to stop cheating on him, and he does not want to cause her harm, he just wants to worship her and have her all to himself. Only thing left to do is to take out the competition. And earn her respect and intensify her love for him.

Painful watch
22 December 2021
My energy level went from 100% from seeing the title on the screen to 0% by the time the film was over. It lacks all of the magic that made the first three films so special. No cool fighting scenes, and Keanu wasn't even wearing his signature outfit, he looked more like John Wick, than Neo. I'm sad to say, that not only didn't I love this film, but I couldn't wait for it to be over. I gave one star, for the matrix title, one star for Neo, and one star for Trinity, because I love all three. Had this been a standalone film, and I knew nothing about The Matrix, my rating would have been the bottom one. Such a long wait, for nothing.

Pointless snooze
14 December 2021
I was bored with this film already fifteen minutes in, and it didn't change during the whole thing. Ridiculous dialogues, such pathetic attempts at humor and what was even the point of this entire film? A complete waste of my time, and a shame Natasha's last hurrah amounted into that. Two thumbs down.

Pure brilliance

There's not a single thing, I do not like with this film. I fell instantly in love with it, when I first saw it, in the 90s, and I'm still absolutely and utterly in love with it, today.

Stunning
17 February 2021
After reading the many, many, many, negative reviews, I was expecting absolute trash. Mark my surprise, when fifteen minutes of great entertainment grew into thirty, and then an hour, and I was loving everything. Thought that, maybe it's the ending that's rubbish, because that's where a lot of films fail, but no, it was solid, just as the rest of this production.

This is far better than the first Wonder Woman film, which I wasn't impressed with at all, to be honest. In fact, I'd go as far as to say this film is the best out of the franchise. I really don't understand why people hate this, is it because it has an intelligent plot and a real storyline, regarding real human emotions and flaws, instead of two and a half hours of mindless fighting and cringy middle-aged dad humor? Perhaps it is.

Nothing special, but good enough to waste a lazy day watching
24 January 2021
There's absolutely nothing special about this show, it feels like every other fantasy series created to appeal to children and young adults. It's an ok watch, if like me, you're looking for something to waste a lazy day on watching, but it lacks the depth to be truly interesting.

It's a mess
12 December 2020
This was the most fantastic display of absolute and utter nonsense, that I've seen in a long while. It's hard to pick which was worse; the acting, the writing, the directing or the storyline - I believe in the end, it was a magical combination of total lack of talent in all areas, that made this cringe-fest so painfully entertaining to watch.

It's like it was written by someone who's never witnessed human interaction before and performed by androids who lack the full programming to be able to pass as actual humans. The dialogues are so bizarre and the directing makes you scratch your head and wonder if the person in change is a toddler or a golden retriever, maybe. Nothing in this production makes any sense, and I'm amazed I managed to suffer through it all. It would absolutely blow my mind if this trash got renewed.

Loved the original L Word but this garbage, comes nowhere near it. The characters are boring, the relationships feel fake and cringy, everything about this is so terrible that I had to stop watching after three episodes.

Not at all scary or exciting
8 February 2020
I imagine kids up to 14 would probably love this show and find it exciting, but alas, I've not been a kid in decades, so for me this was mostly silly, but just good enough to finish out of pure boredom.

Utter disappointment
29 December 2019
I've read the books and found them enjoyable, not amazing in any way, but the main characters were intriguing to follow. I expected too much of this show, I expected it to be more than the books which was very unrealistic and unfair. As it is, I found this show quite painful to watch. The casting choices were surprisingly terrible, the acting forced and amateurish and directing leaves so much more to hope for. It was quite the disaster as a whole and I don't understand how it can have such high ratings. Must be from people who aren't familiar with the books.

I've not read the comic books, so for me this was just a stinky mess that made absolutely no sense and above all, was very boring. I only watched the first episode and it was enough for me. I'm out.

Pure torture
6 August 2019
I had to take several breaks, walk the dogs, play videogames and clean the house, while watching this absolutely ridiculous and nonsensical pile of rubbish and now afterwards, I'm asking myself why I put myself through such suffering. To what end. I guess I was hoping there would be one scene or at least one line that put a smile on my face or made me feel anything at all except extreme pain and boredom. There wasn't any of that unfortunately, so I just wasted three hours of my life I could have spent on basically anything else and it would have been more worth while. I can't decide which one was more painful to watch, this or Aquaman? Both equally and utterly disappointing I guess.

Underwhelming
28 April 2019
First half of the movie was great, second half was just boring and I found myself checking my phone every three minutes bored to death. I liked Bradley Cooper's character but felt absolutely no sympathy for Gaga's Ally. Her acting leaves much to hope for and it just didn't do it for me.
