More people should see this show.... a hidden Gem
18 November 2021
Shows the true intentions of Big Pharma, without any make-up. Everything else is just excuses and justifications. It still surprises me how many people blame the people getting addicted, lifting the repsonsibility from the drug-manufactureres's shoulders.

I have spoken.

I have spoken.

(There is literally not much to say, as all jaws are dropped. Best Xmas gift ever from Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau.)

Uplifting!

The mood of the show really hit it right with me. It's teaching that there IS help and a group CAN work together and attain good results. I just hope there are actual hospital teams that work together as one as in this TV series. Lot's of touching scenes and zero antisocial behaviour from the hospital staff. Well done!

Star Wars: The Clone Wars: Shattered (2020)

Absolute Masterpiece!
2 May 2020
I couldn't restrain myself from joining the previous reviewers, and reinforcing what they also noticed:

  • amazing score, amazing ambient music, Blade Runner 2049-style
  • amazing fight scenes
  • so many (dark) emotions going through us, the viewers
  • Ashoka is at her best
  • Rex demonstrates his integrity
  • beautiful editing
  • fantastic, thoughtful cinematography
  • connection to the Original Trilogy very well made

The overall effect on the viewer is in league of a whole feature film - although this episode is just 24 minutes long. I think we all wished it would never end... This is TRUE Star Wars, thank to Dave Filoni. Whatever he touches, turns to gold. I really do hope Disney and Lucasfilm management also recognizes this! I fully agree with others, that he should be the one trusted with another SW trilogy. Nobody comes near to his talent, understanding and dedication in the SW universe.

Finally a word about the producers and cast: when I see such a perfect piece of art (like this eposide), I HAVE TO acknowledge them, their pure intention to entertain us, their quest for quality filmmaking and their ability to make things go right. Kudos to you all!

Only 1 episode left and Clone Wars, you will be sorely missed.

Gravity (2013)

Simply breathtaking - you cannot get closer to a real spacewalk than this
3 October 2013
I've just returned from a 4DX screening (moving seats, artificial wind, etc.), and my childhood dream has come true: I have spacewalked! I studied to be a physicist, I love sci-fi and I did have an idea about the challenges you face as an astronaut - as space is really hostile towards life (your oxygen running out, pressure to be kept, micrometeorites, lack of gravity and it's consequences). Once I heard about the movie's basic setup, 2 astronauts bound to each other after a space accident, I knew what problems they would be facing: the loneliness, the tiny chance for survival, no room for mistakes, but room for heroics, emotions and sacrifice. I thought it's a fantastic setup for a movie-maker to exploit.

Well, let me tell you: I got much more than I expected!

The visuals rip you right out of your comfort-zone on Earth, where you always know where up/down/left/right is. The enormous speed differences in flying objects and you, the fact that you can just drift away with nothing to hold on makes you re-think the rules you are used to.

I've really loved how the story actually gives a great physics education to the audience about how things are in space, without explicitly saying so (great for kids). All this with such incredible visuals that you simply cannot avoid being IN the suit, IN the story, being thrown around, fearing for YOUR life.

Sandra Bullock and George Clooney don't let us down with their acting. Clooney is not one bit less than we are used to, but Bullock, she gives as Oscar-worthy performance. In most scenes she is alone, and has to carry the movie along alone - a demanding task – but she does with such emotional expression that makes this probably her best film.

I dare to say there's actually a third actor: Earth itself. You've never seen it's face like this before, in so many colors, during the day and at night, and you get a special rare view of something too - I let you find that out in the theatre...

Ladies: even if you are totally uninterested in space-movies, this one will keep you on the edge of your seat, and will give you the emotional catharsis you might expect from a really outstanding movie. Just go.

Finally: there's a twist waiting for you at the end, only there you will fully understand the title: Gravity!

Avatar (2009)
10/10
Best movie experience of the last 30 years...
14 December 2009
Warning: Spoilers
I was lucky to see Avatar at a pre-screening a few hours ago. It completely blew me and the whole room away and i dare to say it will do so to 80% of any audience anywhere. The remaining 20%, who always finds something to complain about, will whine about character development, dialog, story or the pop-corn.

Well, let me tell you: they went to this movie with the wrong expectations.

You have most likely met Cameron's previous work(s): Aliens, Terminator 1 & 2, The Abyss, Titanic (!), just to name a few.

So WHAT should you expect from Avatar??? MORE of the same!!! More of revolutionary film-making, more of grandiose new ideas, more of never-before-seen special effects, more of 150 minutes without relapsing, more of the James Cameron genius...

I am very happy that the trailers didn't give the full story away. Lots of emotions are waiting for the viewer, laughter and tears also. Cameron was very smart keeping the teasers as teasers, nothing more... as the full movie will take your breath away.

You will practically not notice that you are watching a non-existing world, it is sooo real. Attention to detail is superb. You computer geeks will know what I am talking about. This move was not rushed in the making. No wonder it could not have been done before - not having the proper computing power.

The wild life, the jungle, the animals, the Na'vi-s, or the dragon-like flying creatures are all so life-like, they almost pop-off the screen (and in 3D they actually do :) .

The sound effects were so well done, that when I saw at the credits that Skywalker Sound was behind it, i could only think of "yessss... now THAT makes sense."

Cameron is a visionaire - and again, he delivers, with full blast.

A certain character says in the movie that Pandora (the planet where the story takes place) became his real world. My advice to you: let Pandora become YOUR real world for two and a half hours, let it make you completely forget about your life and problems, let it entertain you, move you, let it carry you away.

Because THAT is what i expect as an exchange for my ticket.

And a few hours ago i got tens of tickets worth of that.
