RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars: Screen Queens (2023)
I am confused
The winning team was a full short story, beginning to end, wasn't the actual challenge to make a trailer??? Cause that's what the "loosing" team did who imo was funnier and more clever in their writing and acting. The winning team only had Jimbo as a standout and I love Kandy and Jessica, but those performances were average at best.
Production and the judging are wild this season and it's kinda ruining it for me.
Also saving Kahanna??? Really? She did the same so called acting as in the rdr live... Clearly they have some of their faves already picked out from the beginning and some faves just coasting by.
This cast is interesting and full of personality and potential, but choices like this just makes it frustrating to watch. Just for once let the show have a natural progression with some tweaks here and there. That makes for better tv in the end and less frustration watching it.
PS: I also thaught at least Heidi from the safe group should have been recognized as a standout.
The Boulet Brothers' Dragula: Titans (2022)
Amazing idea, mediocre execution!
This really had me hoping for the best season of dragula ever! Amazing cast, amazing looks and mostly juicy drama!
However the show was held back by the editing yet again and this has been something that the dragula series has had a problem with every single season.
Problems that should be looked into future seasons:
1. Less drama more drag!
I loved some of the drama this season, but half of it was dragged on for too long and got a bit boring. This could have easily been edited down in favour of seeing for example more of the creative process the drag artists were doing.
2. Confusing drama!
Some of the drama happens before the show and some happens during the show, but behind closed doors and it is confusing as hell when the cast is sometimes being vague about it. They need to tell and show us, the audience of what Is going on or else we just sit their like a bunch of question marks and misses so much of the entertainment.
The Boulets even mentioned in the finale that the cast were being filmed all the time, but where is that footage when we need it to get some context in all of these fights? And why show us this out of context drama and not show us the evidence or what was leading up to it then? EDIT!
3. The fright feat. This was also a confusing part of the show as they said they would be bringing back the drag artist who got dropped into the abyss the week before, but they never implemented this rule whenever someone failed to do the whole fright feat or only did a small portion of it. So the rule kinda meant nothing in the end.
4. The finale was a joke. I mean it all lead up to a very anticlimactic ending. First they immediately crushed any chances of coco winning with the whole "we look into everything you have done this season AND your original season."
The podcast was ok, but the finale floor show was not the best idea considering they had a three part floor show challenge with a prerecorded lipsynch that they didn't get to chose themselves. I mean it kinda kills the creative spirit and as we saw hindered all of their floor shows.
It is the first season of titans and it sure can be improved for future installments. They are still trying out this new format! So I am hopeful, but I can't with the whole out of context drama. The creators of the show has had 4 seasons to correct this and still not much have changed.
Overall it was an entertaining season and I still love this show to death hence why I am being passionated about the issues presented here!
7/10.
RuPaul's Drag Race UK vs the World: West End Wendys (2022)
Not even surprised.
I am not even surprised by the Lipstick choice. I mean Naomi did it in All Stars 4 and now Pangina. The season is gonna feel a lot more empty now that Jimbo is gone doh and right before snatch game too... But tbh clever of her to choose the biggest competition.
The episode was ok and the judging was valid, so I dont think you can really blame that, but I mean if they wanted Jimbo to stay production could have easily just put Mo in the bottom and after having questionable performances and outfits throughout the season Juju would have most probably gone home , but they didn't.
RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars: All Star Variety Extravaganza (2021)
Meh
Rushed episode leaving me with a taste of overall averageness with a strong emphasis on overall!
Average reads and "varierity" show (I mean most were just prerecorded songs with average vocals) with the same troublesome format as last season. Good lipsynch, great personalities, but all stars needs a looooong break to get its creativity back and running.
RuPaul's Drag Race: Bossy Rossy Ruboot (2021)
The judging and production yet again.
I wanna like this season so bad, but I cant enjoy this when they are so obviously trying to push/push away certain queens cause of twists, drama, representation and prejudice. If the queen sucked or did well just reward or punish them naturally, that makes for a better showing overall. I understand the that they are trying to push storylines, but it is still a reality competition show and that needs to take into consideration. Some fiddling is ok, but when it is so blatantly obvious like with Shuga Cain or Gottmik/Tamisha last week then it just takes away from the natural progression of the show.
Its just so frustrating when the amazing Queens that this season has gets unfair treatment, because of favoritism, understatement and overall meddling.
