Finding Nemo (2003)
Best animated movie I have ever seen- definitely worth seeing for anyone
I don't usually see animated movies in the theater, and when I do, I never see them a second time, except on video. However, this was the first exception. This immediately became my favorite animated movie, and I actually decided to go back and see it a second time. None of my friends who I saw it with the first time wanted to go back so I went with some others who hadn't yet seen it.
As an 18-year-old, I know many kids my age pan animated movies as only for younger kids, and while this is true for many of them, there have been several that are good for anyone. One of the features I have noticed in Pixar movies (Monsters, Inc.; Toy Story; this) is that they direct the action towards younger kids, but add a number of lines that only an older audience will understand.
Finding Nemo was excellent all around. Technically, it was incredibly well made- with realistic fish-like movements and equally realistic human-like facial expressions, not to mention the amazing aquatic scenery. The technical part actually added to the movie as a whole, making the characters more real, and therefore easier to relate to, despite the fact that they were fish. And then, of course, the plot and action of the film were great. It was funny, creative, and simply entertaining in general. The characters were likeable, the action was fast-moving, and the story was well-written. This will easily win best animated feature of 2003.
In fact, the only criticism I have is not of the movie but of Pixar: since they did almost all the work in creating this film, it seems that they really don't need Disney as a distributor. They have already made enough of a name for themselves that without the backing of a giant motion-picture distributor, they could release the films themselves and produce the same amount of money- only they would be able to keep it all, instead of having to fork over huge portions to Disney.
Miracles (2003)
Yet again ABC cancels a promising show
I just learned yesterday ABC had decided to cancel Miracles. It seems that this network can't do anything right. First they moved their only show with strong ratings (The Practice) to Monday at 9PM, a terrible time, and now, they've canceled a show that many people enjoy, and I have heard a number of good reviews on it. ABC may now even be slipping behind FOX in the ratings, which had always previously been in 4th place.
