Evil Dead Rise (2023)
Stop ruining original movies with with your terrible screenwriting and casting.
Great job trashing another great classic horror movie Hollywood. I understand it must be really hard for the great writers to come up with original new ideas which is why you have to resort to digging up old movies and making unwanted sequels with immature writing.
I can give you a list of great movies to ruin if you like. How about ruining The Godfather or Shawshank Redemption?
You can get the Rock to play Vito Corleone's character or maybe Vin Diesel to play Tim Robbins character.
Also, please get a competent agency to design better movie posters. Hollywood standard of movie posters have been steadily declining over the years. Gets worse and worse. Thanks again for destroying Sam Raimi's original version with this garbage.
Ms. Marvel (2022)
Is there an way to rate less than 1?
If you'd like to know how to ruin and fairly successful comic book superhero, this show will teach you everything you want to know, and more. Looks like the MCU has stopped trying to write good scripts and cast decent actors even if it istargeted at children or teens. This is just lazy and lame.
Interstellar (2014)
Brilliant film making!
To the self absorbed irrelevant "critics" who gave this masterpiece a "1" rating, this movie wasn't made for your small minds who don't know the definition of the word fictional sci-fi or what it takes to make brilliant visual effects and sound design. Maybe stick to The Fast & the Furious franchise which better suit your imagination and standards and your idea of reality.
Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022)
Clearly a movie made by Rick & Morty fans.
If you like Rick and Morty then you'll like this movie. All I could think of was Rick commenting throughout the movie. I'm not sure how original the script it is based on all the reviewers saying so, but Rick & Morty fans know, this is extremely familiar.
True Story (2021)
Decent performances and an annoyingly amateur and predictable script. Zero awards!
Clearly it's so easy to please the reviewers who gave 10/10 for this show. They probably wished The Avengers deserved an Oscar. Heads up, this isn't Kevin's first serious drama performance. Watch "The Upside" from 2017 if you want to see a good performance from him.
Right from the first episode it was easily predictable. It was almost too easy to figure out with every minute passing, but that's me. My fault I've watched so many movies and shows all my life. Or maybe these reviewers just don't know what a good script really is.
I did really enjoy seeing Snipes back on screen again, and not to mention Billy Zane. Still a terrible show.
It was so painful to watch after the first 2 episodes. Definitely had potential, but evidently the wrong bunch of scriptwriters got the job. I'll bet some of those screenplay writers are here writing all these positive reviews. It is a Netflix show after all, always keep your expectations low.
Clickbait (2021)
Unnecessary show!
An extremely unnecessary show to help give lonely people ideas. Well executed, great cast and production. Just unnecessary because of the kind of world we live in. This is exactly what this works does not need. Give insecure and lonely people ideas. Well done for adding more fuel to the fire.
Awake (2021)
Still better than Wonder Women both 1 & 2
Everyone's a critic, All I can say this is still better than Wonder Women both 1 & 2.
A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night (2014)
An Iranian Horror masterpiece!
Everything about this movie reeks of sheer artistic brilliance. Breathtakingly shot in black & white, which adds to the eerie and surreal atmosphere. The performances given by all the actors gives so much more to this visually stunning movie. I can't believe I waited this long to finally watch it in 2021. Speechless!
Wonder Woman 1984 (2020)
R.I.P DC Universe. You had so many chances.
I felt like I was watching a Lizzie McGuire movie but worse. I'm not a fan of Gadot as Wonder Women and I actually felt the first WW was quite decent, but this is by far the worst DC movie ever made. It's official, Gal Gadot is a terrible actor. I watched it just for the other cast but now I regret it. A bad movie can make good actors look bad, it's true. There are better low budget B grade movies better than this. There was no script, except for an ad campaign for Nike. Even though this is a superhero movie everything felt completely disconnected, random and forced with a mind boggling stupid and terrible story. My love for DC was for it's seriousness, well at least that's how the comics are. But if you've watched all the previous DC movies and then watched this, it's like watching the Naked Gun with Leslie Nielsen as WW. I wouldn't be surprised if the Ninja Turtles showed up at some point. What is going on? Looks like COVID has does some serious brain damage to Jenkins and Snyder's. This was a low budget Fast and the Furious and directed by Joey from Friends. How on earth are people rambling about how amazing this movie is and praising Gadot for this horrendous so called superhero movie? I am disgusted! To each their own I suppose. Everyone's a critic including me. I'm so afraid that I'm living in a world where there are people who actually loved this movie. Utterly disappointed and I'm an absolute DC fan and worked as a digital colorist for both Marvel and DC. This is pure trash! TRASH!
Penny Dreadful: City of Angels (2020)
Disgrace to the original. Terrible cast, production and performances. Terribly disappointed.
This show should end with one season as it's a disgrace to the original. The production and acting performances are worlds apart from the original. Eva Green in the original was absolutely brilliant as was Josh Hartnett, Timothy Dalton and the rest of the cast. This is just my opinion and it shouldn't matter to anyone but myself, but Natalie Dormer was painful to watch here. This role should have gone to someone else. I just could not go past the second episode. The seriousness and complexity of the show has dropped drastically and ruined the original for me and I felt as if I was watching some kind of a gangster musical. I'm not sure which was worse, the lousy German accents or the performance by Doremer. I'm just going to consider this as a standalone show which has nothing to do with Penny Dreadful. Even as a stand-alone show, this bored me quite a bit. Didn't expect this was capable of Joe Logan.
Honest Thief (2020)
Wasn't expecting much, but still disappointed to say the least.
Predictable from the beginning to the end. I think I need to start writing scripts to give Liam new ideas.
Ray Donovan (2013)
Brilliant show!
Everything is brilliant about this show. This is why I like watching TV shows. Well done Showtime. One of the greatest, well written, well acted, directed & produced show. Gutted they canceled the show just like that without a proper ending. Just goes to show that Showtime doesn't really care about the art of making a good show.
Ted Lasso (2020)
Brilliant! I never want this to end!
Jason Sudeikis is just brilliant! I really needed this in my life right now. Can't get enough. If this show doesn't make you feel good then nothing will.
28 Days Later... (2002)
This is how you make a Zombie movie.
From the legendary Danny Boyle. One of my all time favorite Zombie movie. Watched it the day it premiered and then watched It over 100 times to date. Never gets old. Cillian Murphy, Naomi Harris both did a cracking job.
Tumbbad (2018)
Beautiful cinematography, extremely disappointing VFX and never add music to a horror movie.
It is an overrated but decent effort for an Indian horror movie. Cheesy and funny at times which is not an emotion a horror movie should inflict. And there are reviewers questioning why this movie didn't win any oscars. Kill me now! Either paid reviews or people who have no clue what a good horror movie is. It's hard for me to use the words Indian and horror movie in the same sentence as they haven't come close to anything i would consider quality for my taste and I've seen a few. I do wish they cut out the music in this movie and they could've probably still retain the seriousness of what a horror atmosphere should feel like. Not sure why there is a constant need to add music in all their movie. At least people don't burst into a choreographed dance routine. Phew! The minute the music starts it has the every Bollywood run around the trees and dance in slow motion vibe. Let's not overlook the clever rip-off of ambient music used in some Hollywood movies. Doubt anyone who watched the movie would even notice over their high praises and positive, 10 out 10 ratings. Geez! Goes to show how easy it is to terrify certain members of the audience. I like horror and seen enough in every language out there for over 40 years. Korean, Japanese, Italian, Spanish, French, Iranian, and some from Hollywood will always rule the horror genre in my books. This movie in a few main scenes has way too much vfx for my taste, that too terrible to say the least. Let me explain something, you don't need a lot of vfx to make a good horror movie. It's the VFX that ruined this potentially decent movie. The only thing that did it for me in this movie was the cinematography. Otherwise, I would never watch it again.
The Vast of Night (2019)
A beautiful film! Amazing story telling. Take note young film makers.
What an absolutely beautiful film. A simple story, yet magical and ominous, intriguing and full of suspense and all done because of simple and straightforward script. The casting was just right and delightful performance from all the cast. I actually felt like I was part of the movie. Throughout the film I had this warm sublime feeling which put in me a strange but captivating state of mind. There aren't a lot of action scenes as such besides the running around, so for those of you expecting to something like the Matrix or Avengers movie, please move along. This goes to show how you make a magnificent sci-fi movie without actually revealing or showing aliens or UFO's, instead building suspense and constantly engaging with the audience and all through just the magic of good dialogue. Leaving the ending ambiguous was just perfect. Sometimes it nice not knowing and leaving it to the viewer to imagine the end. I was pleasantly surprised. Thank you for this.
Breathe: Into the Shadows (2020)
Decent attempt. Tight production. Unconvincing performances and predictable screenplay.
As usual, another TV series whose script is made up of so many other shows and movies. Predictable and forced story with many loopholes. I figured out the show in the second episode and every time I got excited assuming the twist would be great, it turned out to be disappointing. The screenplay gave away the main story and climax in the first few episodes itself which I still cannot understand why. What an outright cringeworthy finale and poor performance from the protagonist and the character of Abha. A lot of wasted potential and resources. Acting by most actors was mediocre to say the least. Wasn't impressed with Nithya Menen who is new to me, so I googled her and was surprised to read so many critics claiming her history of acting In movies is par excellence. Clearly this script was not fit for her then. Goes to show everyone has a totally different idea of what good acting is. The only reason I continued to watch the show was because of the character Kabir Sawant. He was the only somewhat convincing actor and I wanted to see more of him. Even his investigation team showed a good performance. Production of the entire show was quite decent as most shows coming from India these days so I'm pretty sure this was a big budget show.
Opening credits and titling was nicely done which is something I'm always interested in seeing. This show could've easily been a movie, but ended being dragged into a web series instead. While the series tries to retain the serious vibe it ends up ruining the mood with it's dramatic and stylized climax music almost making it a soap. You can clearly tell the production team is influenced by and trying hard to imitate shows or movies like True Detective, Split, Dexter, Usual Suspects, Mind Hunter, etc... I'll tell you one thing, For those who keep comparing, this is nothing like True Detective nor comes close to it in terms of production, screenplay, set design, cinematography or soundtrack. But, it's always nice to see the effort coming from India making series such as this.
I think Abhishek Bachan is a good actor given the right script. The only movie to date I've actually enjoyed watching him in and felt he did an outstanding performance was in a Godfather type movie called Sarkar. He definitely has a lot of potential, but this show did not do it for him in my opinion. Not every actor can take on any script unless they're all as versatile as Daniel Day Lewis. That's why you have Chris Hemsworth only fit to play Thor, Liam Neeson as an ex CIA or special ops, Etc... What's annoying is as always there are many self righteous whining reviewers here who can't take it when they read other people's negative reviews about a certain show and cannot digest how many of them don't like or appreciate their taste in movies and series. Get over yourself. That's why it's called 'Personal Opnion'. I give this show a solid 5 for trying.
Warrior Nun (2020)
Actually quiet a well made show. Predictable, but overall a good binge watch.
When you see a show with a title Warrior Nun you immediately get thrown away and think of all the low budget movies with similar titles like the recent Velocipastor and whatnot. At least I was skeptical. Right from the trailer you get the feeling it's a concoction of so many movies or shows from the past which is often the case these days with anything you watch. The concept of angels and demons or anything supernatural might not be of interest to many, but for me, I love it. Having watched movies like the Exorcist, The Omen, Poltergeist, etc when it first came out and Vertigo Graphic Novels such as Hellblazer, The Preacher, I've always been intrigued by this idea and it's various depictions. I'm an agnostic so it should make sense.
What's surprising are the performances from the entire cast. Almost on point. The lead actor who by how many of you have also felt is a cross between Elen Page & Emilia Clarke did a good job throughout the show. Pretty sure we'll soon start seeing her all over Hollywood. She's still a lot better than most mediocre actors in Hollywood such us Jennifer Lawrence, Anne Hathaway, Kristen Stewart, Bella Thorne, Megan Fox, Jessica Alba, Denise Richards, etc. The list goes on. Her performance even though being somewhat convincing, she does seem to force a lot of it which is annoying at times. Not to mention in episode 9 the ridiculously cheesy, slow motion cat walking nuns with the priest scene which looks like they're showcasing the new summer collection from the Catholic nuns community. Regardless, Alba the protagonist is only going to get better with time.
To sum it up. Good cast, cinematography, vfx, score, costume design, decent script and direction. Good enough to also make you overlook the generic B-grade movie style show title and a rip off of John Wick 3 poster which I love.
The 100 (2014)
Sci-fi teen show, mediocre acting, decent script, really nice costume designs & vfx. Season 6 & 7 less disappointing.
It's the kind of show where there is so much bad and over acting by a bunch of teenagers, but you can't stop watching because you already started the show and you've come so far that now you have to see it till the end. If you like teen drama shows like The OC, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Riverdale, or the shows like Under the Dome, Travellers, and Star Trek and wished there was a sci-fi version which is a combination of all of them, then look no further. Behold 'The 100'. There are some commendable performances by a few actors. The lead actor Clarke/Eliza's performance is just disappointing. The more I see her, the more I don't like the show. She might be a good actor, but not in this TV series. Also disappointing are the characters Lexa, Octavia, Raven, Dr. Eric Jackson, A.L.I.E the A.I, to name a few. Lexa/Alycia Debnam did such a better job in Fear the Walking Dead but failed miserably here. Not her fault, that's and castings fault. The only reason to watch the show are for the nice vfx, the characters Bellamy, Indra, Marcus & probably Monty. The four convincing actors on the show. Honestly, this show is an excellent example of wasted potential. It's could've been something big, but this is what happens when it falls in the wrong hands. Hey, who am I to comment. Movie and TV making is not an easy job and it's easy to criticize. I'm just a harsh critic. I began watching this show after reading many of the reviews here, which I later learned after watching a few episodes, how easily people get entertained by mediocre shows. Some even compared this show to Game of Thrones. Really?? These must be the same viewers who wished the Twilight movies should've won an Oscar. It's like comparing True Detective to Hawaii 5 0. To each, their own I guess. I'm still watching the show for the actually decent production, vfx, costume design and somewhat decent script that does get predictable episode after episode. The climax scene sounds are quiet annoying. Almost like listening to the climax sounds from reality shows like the Kardashiana. It's become the kind of show I leave running in the background while I do my work. Watching bits and pieces of this sci-fi soap opera and waiting to be done with the entire series. The script is sometimes interesting I must admit, at least in season 6 & 7 it kinda is. Still terrible waste of quality resources. Imagine how this would've turned out if they gave this show to Nic Pizzolatto or Christopher Nolan. Doubt Nolan would touch this script though.
The best thing about the show for me are the opening titling/credits for each season, and most importantly, if you're looking for something to wear at your next Burning Man, you've come to the right place.
Infamous (2020)
This movie doesn't deserve a rating, unless they have a -5 score.
This movie makes Legally Blonde look brilliant. A rip off of many older movie scripts and remade terribly for social media loving millennials. How is this actress still getting work? 100 mins I will never get back.
Actual rating: -5
Metro Manila (2013)
Absolutely brilliant! Probably the most realistic Filipino movie I've seen.
This movie is spectacular. It feels real and natural from the beginning till the end. The direction, production, casting, screenplay, actors, acting and soundtrack is spot on. The actors in this movie are in my opinion better than 90% of the current Hollywood actors. Well done!
White Lines (2020)
Annoyingly unrealistic and made for millennials with small minds. Great location though.
In a nutshell, the lead character is just not a good actor. Nuno Lopes and the location Is the only reason this show is watchable. I watched it because i finished watching all the good shows on Netflix and gave this a shot.
The Lovebirds (2020)
Absolutely cringeworthy!
Usually I like Kumail Nanjiani. Really good actor, comedian and scriptwriter, but this was downright disgraceful. I mean who wrote this script? The humor was forced and do they actually expect people to believe this is how a normal person would behave? I get that this is just a movie, but wow!
Issa was just terrible as an actor and a comedian in this movie. So disappointed! When I saw the trailer the first time it aired on YouTube, I couldn't wait to watch it and now I wish I hadn't. I'd take a Will Farrell movie over this any day.
The Protector (2018)
So much potential wasted!
Ridiculously cheesy and painful to watch. The acting by most of the actors was cringe worthy including the lead actor.. The character of Leyla is probably the worst actor in the history of film and tv. She's lucky she's pretty, so there are industries that thrive on selling beauty products and slapping on a face like hers on the packaging. I can guarantee you will find better actors picked randomly off the street even if they're not your usual conventional "good looking" people. Usually I appreciate anything on TV and film and rarely criticize as it's not an easy task to make art let alone an entire series, but this was like an insult to people's intelligence. Cast a bunch of good looking people together, dress them up well, throw in some mediocre stunts and you have yourself a terrible show. I understand it's all a matter of perspective and personal opinion and varied taste but all the people who think this was a "great show" or "solid" clearly tells you the taste of viewers who watch the show. It doesn't take a lot to excite their minds and this is definitely not a bad thing. These are the kind of people who probably think the CW show Supergirl is fantastic. Having actually seen other decent Turkish TV shows in the past this was just disappointing. So much money and resources wasted in my opinion. What's annoying are reviewers justifying this mediocre show for being Turkey's first Netflix series's, so people should look past this sorry excuse for a show. I get that this is for the Turkish audience, but I've seen good actors from Turkey and I'm sure the general population has better taste in television. There was nothing else to watch on Netflix as I've seen almost everything there is in all languages they have to offer, so I began watching this show and I deeply regret it. This is my first and last time ever criticizing something I've seen on TV and my opinion honestly shouldn't matter to anyone.
Atiye (2019)
Decent production with a reasonably good choice of scoring and cast. Definitely not an original script though.
Long story short, this show would've been great if it were released about 10 years ago. Unfortunately this script is made from a number of other shows and movies. I personally found many episodes predictable and there were times which I found some scenes unnecessary. Too many loose ends. The people who scored this show 10 clearly haven't seen enough good TV and film material in different languages to give a better review. Moreover everyone's a critic including me. It's definitely not worth 10. That's for sure. You want good scripts, watch True Detective, Ozark, The OA, Black Mirror, Living with yourself, Sense8, Unbelievable, Dark, When they see us.... etc. You'll learn a thing or two about original screenplay. I was going to rate the show 4, but out of respect for the overall effort by everyone from the director, producer, casting and entire crew, I decided to give it a 5. It's never easy making a good show and I always appreciate the effort. For a mystery/sci-fi/drama show coming from Turkey it's worth a worth if you've seen everything else on Netflix. My humble opinion is that this was made specifically for the Turkish viewers. Looking forward to more original and creative shows from Turkey and thank you for trying.
