Tokyo Vice (2022)
Samantha ruins everything
The show is a bit cliche, but it's enjoyable...until Samantha seems to become more and more of a major character. She is so rude, and her storyline is so boring. Her romances are the worst. She really drags the show down. Please find a way to write a better female character.
The Haunting of Bly Manor (2020)
Boring and one-dimensional
Had to stop watching after 4 episodes. Each episode they gave you a tiny scrap of new or interesting information. Every scene felt too long, and like you'd seen it before. There are probably some people who enjoy intensely slow things, and if so, check this out. If you loved the first series like me, note that this is completely different, nothing like the first.
Upload (2020)
The world isn't fleshed out, and it's not funny
This was a big disappointment. I was hoping the humor just took some time to get going, but it's just not funny. And the world is so...unfleshed out. Each scene and idea behind the Upload world is boring.
Solar Opposites (2020)
Love Rick and Morty, this is fine.
Lower your expectations, this isn't as good as Rick and Morty or Community. It's a lot of self-referencing, and it's not subtle.
It's enjoyable. I binged it over a week and sort of got tired of it, so I'd personally recommend spacing out the episodes more.
McMillions (2020)
If it were me, I'd go back and edit it down to 4 episodes
Episodes 3-4 were absolutely terrible. Enough to make me stop watching if I had something better to do/watch. It was just incredibly uninteresting. So many details you don't care about. They tell you about the current lives of people that were barely involved in the scheme.
The first two episodes were great, episode 5 was solid. Why they felt they had to stretch the material, I don't know. With these dumbass cliff hangers at the ends of these episodes.
The Jinx: The Life and Deaths of Robert Durst (2015)
Interesting, manipulative documentary
This was a very interesting documentary. It was a little drawn out, and the last episode was absolutely terrible. It was all about the director, because it's obvious the guy thinks he has the most amazing thoughts and ideas. Why in the world does he think I would want to hear every thought he has for an entire episode? My goodness.
The shocking end of the series is of course known now to be edited and manipulated, and didn't actually happen like that. It's so dishonest. So yeah, episodes 1-5, great. Episode 6, boring, obnoxious, and a lie.
Avenue 5 (2020)
Super funny
I'll tell you the humor I like and don't like, and if you are like me, my review will probably mean more to you.
I think Silicon Valley is terrible. The first season was 7/10 (good not great) and it was downhill from there.
Veep was also mostly around 7/10, sometimes dipped to 6 or 5.
This show, however, is wonderful. I'm not great at reviews. If you didn't like Silicon Valley, you will probably like this.
Silicon Valley (2014)
Lots of potential, terrible show
I've seen all 6 seasons of this show. It's...not good. Is there a laugh every now and then? Sure. Do they stumble into an interesting story occasionally? Sure, especially in the first season.
But the show is made by a formula. They add one dimensional characters with weird quirks, and they always do the same thing where Richard moves forward without key information, then realizes he screwed up everything by moving forward without that information. That's every story point. Richard thinking he knows what's up, only to find out, oops, things weren't as they seemed. Enjoy 6 seasons of that over and over again.
Death Note (2017)
How to watch Death Note (2017) when you love the anime.
"How can they turn 37 episodes into a one hour and 40 minute long film?"
Good question! They can't. This is an adaption. Watching this film requires you to accept that it's not going to be able to deliver on everything the anime/manga delivered on.
Go in understanding that a lot of elements will be different.
You are setting yourself up for failure when you have unrealistic expectations.
I thought it was pretty enjoyable, and really well made.
Furious 6 (2013)
Fantastic movie from an almost died-out franchise
We've all seen our favorite movies churn out those forgettable and often straight-to-video sequels; Death Race, Wrong Turn, Resident Evil. (Really, not Resident Evil???). And with The Fast and the Furious series, you were starting to see the decline after 2 and most definitely 3. So for Justin Lin to bring back this series from the dead, even to use the weird sequels as a part of the story in his new trilogy, is incredibly impressive.
As for Furious Six, I thought it was incredibly enjoyable. Few movies are actually this fun to watch. The action felt very well paced, never dragging on or repetitious in any way. The dialogue was humorous and the story was very interesting to see played out.
I feel like the only movie I could compare this to is Transformers 3. Coming from a series that I felt like was convoluted and "missing the point" of a fun action film, Transformers 3 and Furious Six alike really meet what they were striving for. An incredibly fun film.
This next part is mainly for people who have seen the movie already, though not a spoiler.
I've seen a few reviews that say that last action packed scene in the film's climax was too much and could have been cut. I could not disagree more. I feel like the filmmaker mislead everyone to think everything was fine and dandy, all wrapped up, but I could not help but feel that the action was over too abruptly, and I still needed to see more. And then there is that last, incredibly epic action scene. The filmmakers made me feel like I needed to see more, so that they could deliver that last scene specifically for me. Great filmmaking, great film. Very impressed.
