Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl (2020)
Excellent Movie. Do not fall for propaganda.
A movie like its protagonist Gunjan Saxena must be judged only on merit. This is an engaging and moving drama, well crafted by the director Saran Sharma. All actors in the movie, including Jaanvi Kapoor have acted beautifully.
Do not follow the herd of false negative agenda and enjoy this film.
The Hangover Part II (2011)
Pornish comedy with average story line.
The sequel has more crazy and shocking scenes, very gross and crass in parts but to be fair it does make you laugh out loud.
The problem however is that the director has relied more on shock value than actual content. The story is predictable and very less imaginative.
The movie tries really hard to cash the success of part one. In doing so it looses the freshness of a new plot.
The acting however has been good, specially the usual suspects Phil, Stu and Alan. The highpoint of the movie has been as usual the wacky- man Alan (Zach Galifianacis). This time however he is in a darker shade and less likable than before.
Overall the movie is no where near the smart comedy of Hangover I. This one is just a pornish comedy with average story. Having said that it is still a good watch for H 1 fans.
Shor in the City (2010)
SITC made all the right sounds
Another slick Mumbai stories about a bunch of people trying to make things work in this mad city. The story has five main characters a small time publisher of pirated books, couple of small time thugs, an NRI trying to start a business in India and a young boy trying hard to make his name in corrupt cricket world.
The lives of all the characters intertwine during the course of the plot. Tushar kapoor's acting is just on par at best and so are most actors, including Senthil Ramamurty who plays NRI Abhay in fact seems to be overacting in parts. The surprise element was Pritosh Tripatht playing 'Mandook' he is a revelation very believable in his role of a dumb goon/ sidekick.
The movie has a fresh feel and the song 'Saibo' very melodious. Overall a good attempt by directors Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK.
City of Gold - Mumbai 1982: Ek Ankahee Kahani (2010)
The story of Mumbai; From an industrial capital to the costliest piece of real estate.
The movie starts as a flash back for a middle aged man who books a flat in Mumbai and recalls his younger days, when his father was a mill worker at the same property. Yes, it does sound like an Amitabh or Rajesh Khanna starer from the late 70s or 80s. The story line is simple, life and struggle of mill workers and their families.
The treatment is however new. Reminds us in parts of "Cidade De Deus" or City of God,an award winning Portuguese film on violent neighborhood of Rio De Janeiro. Mahesh Manjrekar is however no Fernando Meirelles, nevertheless it is a commendable effort. The movie may not be a 'Vastav' or 'Satya' but it is not far behind. The story line is fast paced, actions are real, emotional scenes do emote and all actors look genuine in their parts. I have personally liked the movie and am sure you would watch it and form your own opinion.
