The Patient (2022)
10/10
Absolutely excellent!
30 September 2022
This show is so fresh and gripping! It has me wrangling with my emotions and on the edge of my seat. Certainly the half hour duration of each episode is very appropriate. There is a lot of tension if you invest in paying attention.

The patient is very interesting, both terrifying or cruel and sometimes ridiculous with his endearing qualities. And the role of the psychologist is very well written. We are almost as unconsciously drawn into the psychologists unconscious as he is.

A lot of talent has went into creating this fascinating series of what I consider now as short films. The cinematography is exceptional. Don't miss this!

Brilliant, brilliant work!

Where do I start?

The style?

The cinematography?

The acting?

The nuance?

The allegory?

The emotions it's invoking?

The horror of it all?

Brilliant, brilliant work!

Mulan (2020)

Bad from start to finish.
5 September 2020
The acting, the screenplay, the direction, are all a misery. Unskilful, incompetent, unimaginative crew, creators and actors. A horrid disappointment. Not to mention the protagonist, while she is pretty on the outside, there is an unethical personality on the inside. Look away, don't waste your time on this, no matter how much you love (as I do) the original Disney's Mulan, there is nothing here to fill the nostalgia. In fact, watching this will make you feel much, much worse, wishing you'd never spoiled your fond memories with this awful remake.

Mrs. America (2020– )
10/10
A remarkable accomplishment

Impeccable cinematography, unbelievably talented cast.

Characters full of charm that captivate you, even if their beliefs may annoy you, disturb you, insult you or disgust you. This show is a cradle for experiencing how to empathize with all kinds of people. Not simply fun or entertaining, even though it certainly is due to the aforementioned reasons, but this show is like experiencing personal, political reinvention.

Can one's character be separate from their true or false beliefs? Have you seen how might beliefs collapse and shatter and turn into a different kind, all in one person's mind? And most importantly, how do you feel about feminism? How do you feel about the political subjugation of women? The answers to these questions will be find if you give this show a chance.

This show deserves a 10 star rating because it was essential for me and I believe it is essential for all. Highly recommended. Congratulations to the creators and cast!

Not dull but forgettable

This movie does not deserve a spot in the IMDb Top 250 list.

In Contratiempo you will find the beginning of a gripping thriller that quickly develops into incessant exposition through dialogue and assuming you pay more attention to the screen than to your bowl of popcorn, you will soon be able to think one and two scenes ahead of the characters. Essentially you outsmart the movie and eventually lose the option of being shocked. All in all, a not so competent thriller, but a bit better than average only due to a consistent enough depiction of a narcissist.

I wouldn't recommended it, however, depending on your tastes and attention span, you might enjoy the time spent solving the mystery yourself before the characters reveal it for you.

Dark (2017–2020)
3/10
Excruciatingly painful to watch third and final season.
27 June 2020
So much pretentious disappointment that, by its exhausting repetition of insubstantial catchphrases, Dark's 3rd season cancels almost any satisfaction gathered from the insanely promising first season. We the viewers have been forced to the bitter end by uninspired writing to only be preoccupied with the mystery plot, whether we want it or not. We are shown a narrative essentially driven by the actions of characters, however we have been presented with no characters to care for, as if they don't have any motivations or personality to distinguish them by, to truly empathize with. Merely puppets of a plot to pander to the audience's reservoir for cheap thrills. The characters are so empty of individuality that I can't even blame their inexplicable dynamics and pairings on narrative mismatch. What then philosophical questions to ponder on, when any inkling of human drive, human relation, human psychology has been squandered by the omnipotent and self-serving "plot"?

The reasoning behind my rating can be expressed in one sentence: When it all amounts to zero emotional connection with the essential components of a narrative, even the most skillful and impressive cinematography might as well not have existed.

Incoherent garbage.

And many other awful things this movie is. You can try and see for yourself. But if you value your time and intellect, I'd suggest you skip this. It's not even good enough to laugh about how bad it is.
