New York Doll (2005)
10/10
Faith, Redemption, and Rock and Roll
1 August 2009
Warning: Spoilers
At the beginning you see several rock band members talking about the good times when The New York Dolls were one of the "it" bands of the time. An influential band. The focus is on one particular member named Arthur "Killer" Kane, who seems like a nice, quiet man overall.

The story takes a turn for the worse when we hear of the downfalls of the band, and their disappearance from stardom. The dream they had seemed to start fading. The ride, that especially for Arthur Kane, came to an end. His life takes a turn for the worse. He searches for truth. For anything.

A slightly different tone enters in on the documentary suddenly. Arthur comes across The Church Of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He prays over the Book of Mormon, and in words he describes as receiving an answer from God that it was true. To try and capture the essence, he states it was like a drug experience, but without the drugs. In other words, Arthur Kane found something. He found truth.

As he follows his faith, years after the glory days, he stumbles across probably the last thing he expected. An invitation to play at a concert, with the old band again.

Arthur Kane's life is a tremendous example of life's ofttimes stern cycle of trial and discovery. It shows us what we are made of when we bounce back from hard times and exercise our faith. Kane's faith strengthened him, so God could deliver him and bless him. From the dark abyss into the shining light.

The Wolf Man (1941)
10/10
A Tragically well-woven tale.
21 September 2006
Warning: Spoilers
In the first minute of the movie, the list of actors reads Lon Chaney Jr. as "The Wolf Man". Even the opening credits show no mercy. "The Wolf Man" should not just be considered one of the great horror movies, but as one of the best movies of all-time.

It basically gives us the message of how someone not only can have two sides to themselves, but can also be victims of that very same duality. The character of Lawrence Talbot, however, isn't a bad guy. In fact he has all of this happen to him because he did what he thought was right.

Lon Chaney Jr. does a good job portraying the victim, and the monster, at the same time. I recommend this to any one who is in to films that are not only entertaining, but beautiful and dramatic as well.

The most UNIQUE movie of the year!
24 November 2005
I have finally seen a movie this year that has a refreshingly different sense of style! There hasn't been such a unique picture like this since I was a little kid. At least, this movie helped make me feel like a kid, in a very cool way! Terry Gilliam has an excellent way of combining inventive fantasy, with a powerful message underneath. The interesting thing, though, is that I got a different message than what was probably intended. Upon reading the comment made by Terry Gilliam about The Brothers Grimm, in which he said that the film was an attempt to break open the shell of the views that adults have on the world, I was reminded of what I got from the movie. I got that people should have faith. Faith is an important asset in the universe that we all could use more of nowadays. But, if you do not care to look at cinema in that particular way, then The Brothers Grimm can accommodate you in the funny, scary, heartwarming category as well! Enjoy!

The "Gotham City" song was good, and that is about it.
13 June 2005
Warning: Spoilers
I remember when I was 10 yrs. old and this movie came out in theaters, I was able to convince my parents to take me to see it twice. I was a huge Batman fan back then and still am one today, but just now recently watching it again on video to attempt to re-live the glory days about it, was a very painful experience.

Yes, I understand completely why people gave this movie such a bad rating, and I do not blame them. Now that I am much older and understand more fully the character known as Batman, I was tempted to give this movie a 1 myself! Alas, I am too much of a Batman fan to go that low on a movie review. So I will tell you what I did like about it.

In the movie, the dynamic duo are battling more fiends that threaten to cause havoc on Gotham City, but during that, there is an ever so tender sub-plot that reaches the sensitive side of me, Alfred is dying. During the course of the movie Bruce Wayne has flashbacks on when it was just him and Alfred, when Alfred was like a caring father to him.

Yes, the Good Guys win and somehow find a way to prevent Alfred from dying, which is I guess now kind of predictable, but still good. Another thing I liked about this movie was the song "Gotham City" by R. Kelly, which is always good to listen to, even though the whole tone of the song is completely off compared to what the real Gotham City is like.

Words cannot describe it.
15 August 2004
People often say that it is impossible for someone to have had a vision at any other time besides when the Bible was written. But this movie goes to show you that is not true. The story of the Prophet Joseph Smith is second only to the story of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and is just as true. For someone who is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, this movie holds that and also the power of prayer to be some of the plain and precious truths of all time.People who are looking for some good old spiritual film, will be delighted to put this back in the VCR and watch it again.Maybe for Family Home Evening as well.I look forward to full-length feature based on the life of Joseph Smith.

Best Picture of 2003
31 July 2003
Seabiscuit is a movie that is the typical rags to riches, heartwarming, historical drama that will definately get an oscar nod for Best Picture. Which is precisely why I love it! This movie is the ideal for the saying "Passion of the Underdog."

Beautiful Movie
27 May 2003
This movie is such a wonder to behold! It revolves around a good storyline that takes place during a war that a lot of people my age wouldn`t know about. The Sand Pebbles includes a lot of drama, some humor, action, and lets not forget the suspense. Robert Wise is probably the greatest director of all time in my book. He has the ability to weave beautiful tapestries of film, and put it in our hearts, and the Sand Pebbles is one of the reasons why!

funnyman movie
22 May 2003
This movie is an example of what every comedy film should be like. Don Knotts does a very nice job and the movie is hilarious! There should be more movies like this today that everybody can watch and enjoy, not crude, but clean.

John Wayne,OH YEAH!
13 May 2003
This was a great movie. The reason is not just because of John Wayne starring in it, but because it had a great plot and some wonderful drama in it. John Ford is probably the best director of all time and this movie is just one reason why.

Just plain cool.

Tales from the crypt is what every Horror movie should be like. All the stories had great plots, not to mention endings, and it had probably just the right amount of violence/gore to make it an official Horror movie. This is one of the best Horror movies of all time, I guarantee it.

This is probably one of the best underated sci-fi films I have ever seen. Good job to whom ever thought this movie up!I think this is one of Roger Corman`s best productions as well. I really hope that he gets the recognition for which he deserves.

Beautifully Spun
20 April 2003
Ben-Hur is one of the greatest movies of all time! The reason why is because it tells a great story. I have a friend who once told me the whole basic storyline from just reading the book! This is also one of the very few great ones that can probably be seen by the whole family. By the way, I think Charlton Heston deserved that oscar for his role in this movie.

great story
19 April 2003
Holes is truly a great movie that is what every movie should be like. Every actor/actress did a fine job in making the movie come together as a great story. Honestly, I think I will go get the book and read it because the movie was so good.
