Painting with John (2021–2023)
10/10
I am so happy this exists and that we get to hear and see from John again!
3 May 2022
I never knew much about John. I first learned of him from the movies - I was into some indie films back in the day and remember him from them. I also remember Fishing With John, which I also adored. My friend has HBO and when I saw this pop up, I couldn't believe it. I've watched it all twice now already, and can't wait for another season.

I have also listened to his book "The History of Bones" and highly recommend that you do, too.

Until now, I knew nothing about him, but was always a fan. I had no idea he created a band, or was even a musician. I just thought he was a wacky guy, and that's true but wow - he has led one crazy life! I always liked him and now I like him even more.

I like this show because it seems that he has finally been given his own artistic voice. I hope this is true, but it seems that this show is all him - his art, his music or his music choices, his own stories, his own wackiness. It's so genuine and sweet and funny and weird and that's about what John seems like to me and everyone needs more of that in their life, so please watch this show!

This show is just so soothing - John paints some, talks some, there is some neat music, art is shown, stories are told, little odd artistic bits are thrown in. It's a jumbled mess of awesomeness and you need to see it. I even like the end credits with that beautiful music and the slideshow of his art. I paint in oils myself, but haven't done much lately. This show and the music have inspired me to get back at it, and I'm making good stuff.

I mean, John is an artist. In music, in paintings, and now in this show. After listening to his book, I know John was screwed over hard by so many people in the entertainment industry. It makes you sick to learn it, but it is something we should all know. This is why I say I hope John is happy now and is happy with this show. I know I am. We love you John - keep at it!!!!

This movie was made for me, and I was completely thrilled by it!
29 August 2020
Bill & Ted have been my heroes throughout my whole life. Well, maybe that's overstating it, but you get what I mean. I think. Anyhow. When I was a kid, we didn't have much money. When we finally got a VCR, one of the very first movies I was able to rent was Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure. To say it left it's mark on me is a complete understatement. It began my love of movies. I love movies. I thoroughly enjoy them. They are my preferred art form. Bill & Ted 3 nails it. It is funny. It is stupid. It is energetic. It isn't too long! It is a lot of fun. It has excellent call backs! It has it all - I am not ashamed to say I teared up at the end! This movie was a perfect way to end it all. And I am so grateful for Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter for doing this. It was really special for me to watch and I just loved it! It was just so perfect - it nailed it all so nicely! The humor, the plot (such as it was) the acting the callbacks - all of it. NICE JOB GUYS!! BE EXCELLENT TO EACH OTHER!!!!!

Whatever happened to Todd Santos?
10 August 2020
Why is the main character of this show not listed as a cast member? Why is virtually nothing out there about him?

This show was somewhat groundbreaking for its time when it was new. America "voted" on certain things Todd would do each week. I can only find one episode on YouTube, and watching it today, it's hard to tell just how contrived it all was. But when this was new, I looked forward to it each week. It was revolutionary and I'm surprised there aren't more shows out there like this, given that technology today would make this concept more viable.

I can't find anything out there about Todd Santos. Does anyone know what happened to him? What's he doing now?

So bad, I couldn't finish it.
23 February 2017
I love movies. I love movies about regular people. I enjoy movies that take place around New England, because that's where I am from and where I live. - So while this movie contains elements I would generally love (regular people, New England, etc) I couldn't get through this garbage. - It was so bad I actually stopped watching before the final 15 minutes. And you might be saying "well you didn't give the movie a fair shot because so-and-so happened at the end and made it all worth it" - and you might be right. I generally go on the message boards here on IMDb to learn about stuff like that. But since they're gone, and these reviews contain "no spoilers", I'll never know. - This movie was bad. Nothing good happens. It's depressing and full of sad-sack characters. Lots of cursing, which I don't mind, and I know it's very New-England-y, but come on - it's really too much. It tries way too hard. I almost never give up on a movie. I love movies - I'll watch anything. This was just plain terrible.

Mad About You (1992–2019)
10/10
My favorite TV Show of ALL TIME
21 February 2017
I'm a middle-aged straight white single man who has always loved this show. I used to be a hopeless romantic, and I used to watch this show hoping that someday my life would turn out like this show. I wanted to meet that special someone in some quirky way, have actual friends who were also couples. Have dinners and go places and talk about inconsequential things like where to place a couch. - Well that never happened. But at least I still have the show! - I watched this show when it aired. I joined the internet message board for this show back when the internet was invented (go ahead - try to find it - it still exists!). I bought the VHS copies. I bought the book (What's your Mad About You IQ?). I bought the DVDs. I bought more DVDs on eBay. I got the complete series on DVD last year. I'm a fan. I'm a huge fan. I'm a fan from the way back. - This show was amazing. The actors, the cadence of the speaking parts, the dog, the sets, the plots, the drama, the lack of drama, the guest stars, all of it just still resonates with me and is a part of me to this day. Oh - and the HEART. This show had heart in spades. - Did you know there's an excellent Podcast about this show? It's called "Mad About Mad About You" and I highly recommend it! Seriously go check it out now wherever you kids these days do podcast things. Thank me later. - If you've never seen the show, you are doing yourself an incredible disservice. It is hands-down my absolute favorite TV show of all time!

Goodfellas (1990)
10/10
My favorite film.
21 February 2017
Goodfellas is my favorite movie. Out of all movies I've ever seen, I've re-watched this one the most. I just love it. The characters, the acting, the scenes, the lines, the music, the food! Every time I watch this movie it makes me wanna make pasta and red sauce - and grill up some peppers and onions! - I saw this movie long before I knew or cared who Scorsese was. I'm not a huge fan of his films - some I like more than others - but this one, this one really sticks. I can re-watch it and never get bored. So many favorite scenes. So watchable. And the music - some of my favorite scenes are done with such attention to incorporating the music and music queues - it's incredible! - I've since read the book(s) - which I highly recommend. - This is more of a gushing diatribe than a movie review; let me break it down. This movie was made before CGI overtook your screen. It's a very real-feeling true story of a boy who grew up and became heavily involved with the mob. It's the story of Henry Hill. It's well made, it's well told, Ray Liotta is utterly amazing here, and if you have not seen it, I urge you to do so. It's amazing!

Let me save you some time...
12 August 2016
Warning: Spoilers
They don't do it. Yes it's called "Chasing Niagara", but they don't actually go over Niagara Falls. They chicken out at the end. There, I saved you an hour and 20 minutes. You're welcome. I'm giving it an extra star because it was shot well and the scenery looked beautiful. Rich people traveling the world having a helicopter take hi-def shots while you kayak - rough life! I don't recommend this movie; There's really no point to it. Again, the scenery is beautiful and shot well. It's neat to learn a little about what they do. But I have no sympathy for people with money wasting time getting an adrenaline high while a helicopter films their attempts in 1080P hi-def.
