Gintama (2005)
One of the Worst Anime Series Ever!
I don't know. I can't figure out why people love Gintama so much. Between its annoying characters, campy humor, and endless toilet jokes, Gintama is the worst anime series that I have ever seen. And out of the dozens that I have watched by now (maybe even hundreds), that is saying a lot.
To start off with, you have the humor. Unless you are thoroughly steeped in Japanese culture, you are not going to get it; it will pass straight by your head. The characters are quite idiotic, and don't even THINK about watching this while eating unless you enjoy the taste and the feel of vomiting. The series has so many jokes about faeces, vomit, and snot that it is overwhelming.
And it just goes on and on and on; if you watch, say, 4 episodes a day, it will take you over 100 days to put this series behind you. Why did they make so many of them? It doesn't make any sense whatsoever for them to pump out that many episodes when it isn't even good, and that doesn't even include the movies.
I didn't like One Piece, either - but I would actually RECOMMEND watching One Piece over Gintama any day. Avoid this series!
Airwolf: A Town for Hire (1987)
Most Badly Produced Airwolf Episode
While the storyline of this episode is sound, the inconsistencies are comically profound. The most revealing of these are when Mr. Locke's hand is shown firing a rocket - and is a Caucasian hand (Mr. Locke being Negro), and when footage from 'Condemned' is shown, complete with the bodies of researchers lying on the ground beside a factory. Fun to watch just to try to find all the things wrong with it.
Taras Bulba (2009)
Obvious Propaganda
This laughably propagandistic movie from Russia is based upon one of the wars between the Poles and the Cossacks. Along with the incredibly irritating Russian tendency to vocally translate other languages instead of using subtitles, this movie features bad melodramatic music and excessive dialogue, not to mention stock sound effects. They didn't even wait for an overcast day to play scenes set during rainy days; nope, they went ahead and did the scenes with a rain bar on a sunny day. About the only redeeming factors of this movie are the costumes and the weaponry (multiple shot pieces and an arquebus both make an appearance). Otherwise, you can watch this if you wish to have a good laugh.
Eragon (2006)
Good idea, Bad execution
The Eragon series of books, by Christopher Paolini, is an epic series, with interesting characters, vast series, and an intricate story-line.
This movie, unfortunately, is not the series of books. Indeed, it seems that the makers of the movie did not even read Paolini's works, as it is almost completely inconsistent with the book (Only the names have not been changed!). For one thing the Elf and Dwarf race are entirely absent from the movie, as are the vast landscapes and cities. Even the dragon is different from the books.
In addition, since what is supposed to be an epic story-line is crammed into less than two hours, there isn't enough time for adequate character development, and everything seems rushed.
This could have been a good movie. There is something about having a dragon as a best friend that appeals to the child in all of us, and the movie had good music and a good voice over of the dragon, with the animations of the dragon perfectly syncronized to the voice-over. Unfortunately the movie is inadequate in the worst way. I only hope that someone will see fit to remake this into the epic, LOTR style movie that it should be, instead of the catastrophe that it is.
