This Is Pop (2021)
A documentary about Pop without the King?
There must have been a deliberate effort to design 8 episodes around pop culture and entirely ommit the biggest pop star to have ever lived.
When the include Motown, Spike Lee, protest songs, representation, racism, social injustice, innovation, and never mention Michael Jackson. Surely, even when discussing boy bands, would you not cover the inspiration for their dance moves or fashion?
Why was the art of music video never mentioned? Probably, again, to avoid talking about Michael Jackson.
And Brit Pop without the Spice Girls is a ridiculous oversight.
Leaving Neverland: The Aftermath (2019)
A spectacular piece of investigative journalism
I have every respect for those that put the effort in to the extensive amount of research that has gone in to making this piece.
It sets right some wrongs released by less dedicated film makers and has it's heart in the right place; to report non-biased truths, whether they are of favourable opinion or not.
Leaving Neverland (2019)
Not a documentary.
As a documentary film maker, this film does a disservice to the genre. It does not offer any evidence, and its conjecture is bias. I think it sets a dangerous precedent to presume guilt based solely on accusation. Even the family members featured in this film can not speak for the validity of the men's claims, as they were not aware of the alleged actions for at least a decent after they supposedly took place. More appropriate contributors should have been sort out and a variation of opinions referenced.
