Could have been perfect

Could have been perfect.

All was great, really everything, no weak point:
  • incredible acting
  • great merge of tension, and dark comedy
  • innovative great music
  • camera use
  • great writing

But unfortunately lthe ast season made no sense to me.

The complete approach to the plot have massive plot holes, meaning that basically every characters do things that are not supported by the plot nor by their traditional behavior.

Culminating with a last episode that is a mess of cheap writing, where the last 15 minutes in particular makes everything we have watched before basically pointless, resulting in a over-depressing finale.

Lin-Manuel Miranda, I love you...
25 November 2021
Yeah, I really do!

This films "reeks" of you, tho I don't know any of the original musical material you worked from.

I loved every bit of if, and the scene in the dining room with all the Hamilton cameo... (I noticed other camero too, in other part of the movie)

All is high quality here, and when you do a musical with great music/performers in the first place, everything follows easily.

I hope to get some new "content" ASAP!

Misleading Title
25 July 2021
I wasn't expecting THIS.

The title is a bit misleading... ok, there are presents, but the story has a twist in the very beginning and it evolves around that.

I loved the acting, it feels so natural and true.

And I think the idea is original too, or at least I never met this kind of story before.

I expected some more classic sap story, I got some "back to the future"-ish vibes.

I am sorry I waited for so long before giving this movie a chance, and I am proud this is an Italian production.

Please stop giving 1's and 10's
5 January 2021
First of all I do not understand all the criticism. The movie doesn't intend to shock you all or to change the world, it is just a movie based on a musical, and I liked very much the music, the characters, the acting, and the general mood, I was very well entertained. So I think all the 1's and 10's are just useless and do not help evalueting this product at all. As it happens almost every time, this bombing/boosting creates just confusion and feed the usual Fanboys War.

Glad this super slow nonsense is over
11 August 2020
Nothing in this story is believable. All storylines are a bit "bugged" and the choices of the characters are really hard to accept. Too many "evil" characters. Most of all the two main characters are always doing bad things to each other and to their family. Sometimes the acting is really annoying (Kerry Washington over all). Aesthetically it is a good product, but it is too slow paced. Plus the songs used (specially the cover versions of classics) are very good, but some part is completely without music, making everything a bit boring to be honest. In the end it could have been a good show, but the purpose of it is completely failed, it probably got the opposite results.

Only for S01. S02 bloked me.
11 December 2019
My evaluation is only about season 1. I just started season 2 and I immediately stopped. It seems like they over-complicated things only to hide narrative problems, and I cannot stand all these nonsense change of scenes. Plus reviews from trusted people do not push me to keep watching.

Very very overrated
7 May 2018
Probably the most overrated product on this database. The stand up comedy parts are not funny, or at least never made me laugh. Too many dialogues contain words that you won't know unless you are born jewish. The whole story is completely unrealistic, I will never believe that in the '50 that kind of attitude from a young separated woman would be so well accepted, allowed and "promoted to role-model" (nudity, bad language, alcohol and drug use). I don'y understand all the hyped reviews, maybe I miss some cultural aspect of the scenario, but I doubt it. The drama part is interesting, but drowned in useless dialogues of secondary characters. I would never watch a season 2.

'80 - Niceness - And actual time travel
25 October 2017
I started this with no expectations, actually all other Amazon Prime Video series did not get into me that much... OK, we are in the '80, so if you are born exactly in 1980 like me you are going to have a lot of revival moments, this is not sweating '80 like some other piece of TV streaming show (cough... stranger, cough... things, cough...), but there is a lot of quotes and reference everywhere. Then the whole plot is pivoting around niceness, and this is heart- warming, too many series are around just bad and evil characters, here you will find comfort after a hard work day. But the most important thing is: Time Travel. When I watch this show, time goes faster than ever! It is unbelievable how an episode slides smoothly to the end, while you think you are actually in the middle of it. This is actually the most sophisticated magic entertainment can do, and it must mean something if this happens.

Not That Bad
8 September 2017
I am very interested in the subject of time travel / time loops. So I watched the movie even though I read so many bad review and the low vote. In the end i enjoyed it, OK it is not super funny, it is not original at all, but I found it entertaining. I would rate it 6.5, a standard Netflix movie.

Season 1: Genius & Boredom + A pretty good ending
26 July 2017
I had mixed feelings about this show. For sure it contains some genius, very good ideas are spread all around the plot. But, I don't know why, very often I found myself checking for how long the episode was going to last, and that is not a good thing at all. But the last episodes do not suffer from this flaw and the ending is good. This is just a start (even though it has a complete story line) the characters are very well portrayed, the acting is high level, it is a good foundation for the future series (that for sure are ready for production, considering the last minutes of the last episode…). My final evaluation is 7½, downgraded to 7 here on IMDb because in Italy, without any reason that I can understand, there is no Prime Video app for Playstation 4, so I was forced to use the app from my 2012 TV, that perform just decently, nothing compared to the Netflix app of the console.

"Random" Oscar, again...
3 July 2017
Very overrated movie. If the Chiron was from Asia and Kevin name was like Pamela, I don't think this movie would have been considered for any Oscar.

The three versions of Chiron are three characters that don't fit with each other, the plot is totally foreseeable, the soundtrack... what soundtrack? no soundtrack found.

This reminded me of "12 Years Slave" case, once again an award given for the social impact of it, and not for the true value of the product.

Good, but it could have been great.
3 July 2017
I liked it, but, as I read from some other user, it could have been a lot more. I could have been a masterpiece, but it is just a 7 to me.

I found something was missing, maybe because the plot is very simple, maybe I did not get what "message" the director wanted to send out, I don't know... Anyway sometimes it looked like a super-serious movie, some other like a light comedy. The lack of a fix point of view really took away something from the final result.
