Dune (2021)
Drawn too far out
Recreating the emotions of being in the desert is not so important that it takes up two thirds of the movie. What could/should have been the focus is the power struggles between characters.
This could be categorized as an emo film, so much self loathing it could make you puke with cringe.
Visually, it was fine, the desert becomes quite boring when you emphasize just the sand so much.
After you watch it, do you care about any of the characters? If it was a shorter movie would you feel cheated?
It looked complicated to create and too self important to admire. Can't say that I would ever watch it again but maybe the sequel can come to the rescue, peace out.
The Creator (2023)
Stop remaking/plagiarizing older films Hollywood
Could not grasp why I was so bored. I think it seemed like the script was pieced together from other movies in its genre. They took everything that worked in other films and created a Frankenstein of a film. Heartless, insincere, a copy cat that even had you never seen other films in this genre you'd still get that plagiarism feeling. If it was only around an hour long it'd be more worth it.
You could almost hear the writer cringe at how the production executives mangled this into a flavorless, soulless, sedative of a film. Even the actors were forced into cliched performances. I hope they got paid well for this bc when you get past the investment in cgi there's nothing left.
Faults (2014)
Great example of cultism, watch it
You'll discover the emotional, psychological, and manipulative conglomeration of chaos in this one. Watch it and when you're done look around your life for the same signs.
This film almost makes it seem futile to save an entrenched cult member. The lead actor should have won an Oscar for this
I have 300 more characters to be able to submit this review so I'll try to conclude it with more insightful thoughts on how the cult lifestyle is a malicious and traumatizing experience for all those involved.
I find that American politics finds a home within the nature of cultism and creates mindless zombies, watch it.
Last Seen Alive (2022)
Barely looked at my cell phone it was that engrossing
Want tension and lots of panic? Well you better be in the mood for it bc this movie delivers just that. No filler, no unnecessary dimensions, no pointless dialogues, just get it and go!
With so many films being complex and multidimensional with character development that boggles the mind this one says "Hey! Quit all that fluff bc we're going to just focus on one thing, and do it well!"
Didn't realize how satisfying it is to not have to worry about losing the plot because of complexity.
This movie could be understood by a 5 year old but it's done with a particular attention to detail that anyone would appreciate. Enjoy!
Literally, Right Before Aaron (2017)
Great Entertainment if you liked 500 Days of Summer
This is a movie that stays on point with our protagonist Adam (Justin Long) throughout the entirety of the film. Its about the nature of relationships and how not all of them end after they end so to speak. Watch this film from Adam's point of view and it suddenly becomes engrossing because you can never guess how someone in this situation will react to a combination of jealousy, rage, longing, confusion, and love.
The complexity of panicked emotions that accompany heavy romantic relationships are showcased here very well. This is a great addition to those who love serious but also witty relationship films. Justin Long is a wonderful actor who is able pull off a detailed rendition of a hopeless romantic on the verge of self destruction. If you were entertained after seeing this look up and watch Justin Long's other film " Comet ". You shouldn't be disappointed!
