Degenerate waste of time: Don't even bother!
8 September 2014
Warning: Spoilers
This movie was terrible. Just dreadful in every way! This isn't horror; it's slasher violence/violent creep porn all the way with all the glorious overly done blood splatter, semen jokes, pedophilia, necrophilia and so on, so on.

If you want to just sit and go: yuck, what the hell am I watching this for? Then congrats, this movie is perfect for you. Otherwise, it wasn't clever, none of the segments in it, except perhaps for the tiny morality tale in the beginning. Don't remember the letter, but that was about it. The rest was just terrible. And not in the good horror way, the useless "can't believe I wasted 2 hours of my life watching this crap" kind of way.

Steer clear of this one, unless you've got absolutely nothing to do, your apartment doesn't need cleaning and you have serious sleep issues. If you don't have sleep issues, sleep instead.

Sleepy Hollow (2013–2017)

Recommended for fans of the urban fantasy/horror genre(s)

I saw some promo-pictures of this, and thought it looked nicely dark & grim, perfectly up my alley. Then I watch the episode and they start it up with a nice classic rock song! It set a really good mood for the rest of the episode, I got some heavy Supernatural vibes, only here the main protagonists are NOT two hot boys, but rather one man with a British accent who has awakened after being dead for 250 years, and a young black cop woman in the process of getting transferred to the FBI. The main cast had good chemistry, not in the romantic/sexual way, but more like the start of an interesting friendship. Which I appreciated! Too much forced romances these days. The guy's dead wife is kind of still in the picture, so I doubt there'll be any romance between the main cast any time soon.

All in all the first episode showed great promise. It was deliciously dark, grim and even somewhat gritty, but with some nice aesthetics. Wes Craven is great at creating atmosphere, and there even were a few jump-scares and goose-bump moments there, without it crossing too far from urban fantasy into pure horror. I would say it's a suspense urban fantasy with horror elements.

I do recommend it for those who enjoy shows like Grimm, Supernatural, etc. It may not be drama-ish enough for the Vampire Diaries crowd, and is not as horror filled as an American horror story. I wouldn't say it copies anything (other than the original sleepy horror movie, of course, though it has it's own interesting spin on the whole thing) and it seems creative and interesting! Plot being what seems mainly focused on, and it had some snappy lines here and there, showing it may have some decently talented writers.

So, check it out!

Deeply Frustrating
14 April 2012
I'm a girl who had not yet read the books when watching this movie. What it did do was make me want to read them, so that was a good thing! However, the movie itself was terrible!

The actors and actresses all did decent jobs. No blame on them! But the movie starts terribly slow and continues to be terribly slow all up until the last 1/3 part of the movie. I mean, it's like an hour before they even get to the place where the action is supposed to take place and when it starts off Katniss spends the next half an hour hiding in trees! The action scenes are very lame, I'm not the type that needs to see blood and gore all over the place, but if you make a movie about kids murdering each other in cold blood then at least the poor victims deserve to have believable death scenes, even if they are not the major character! Besides, most of the kids got killed off so early there wasn't much point having them there in the first place! And the main character really got very little action. The little she got was annoying. I felt most of the movie was talking, hiding and napping. This was supposed to be about hunger, survival, etc. But no. Technically it seems all you have to do is hide in the trees and you'll be all good!

No seriously, I couldn't care for any of the characters, except Rue, none warranted any attention, no character development. Very little emotional depth, tt was all very fatigued and uninteresting. What a shame, because the concept was interesting and it could easily have made a great movie. Then it annoys me seeing the high score it's getting here on IMDb. It's like seeing this juicy hamburger on a commerical poster and getting served the miniature dry version on a plate. The focus shouldn't have been on these two people and the issue with their "pretended" love affair. Timing was all wrong in this movie. Ineffective. If the makers had made a timeline for themselves as to where it should peak up, where to climax, etc, they should have seen that as far as how movies, books, etc, are supposed to progress this failed miserably. Besides, what do I care if the woman has a "burning" dress and looks awesome on a red carpet. Hunger Games, people, seriously! *Frustrated* I wouldn't even let my 13 year old sister see this movie. Gotta keep some sort of quality control.

This all annoyed me because the trailer seemed exciting, the movie plot sounded good. Me and my sister (21) were excited about seeing it, but it fell terribly flat. All that's left is reading the books and hope those are better.
