Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania (2023)
Put me to sleep - in a 4DX & 3D screening!
I went to see it in 4DX & 3D and despite being hurled around, thumped in the back and air and water blown on me, slept for about an hour of it! I never fall asleep in movies let alone in a 4DX screening. After half an hour I wasn't drawn to the characters and my mind drifted off into slumberland. I woke up half an hour before the end and struggled through to the credits.
Of what i saw, Jonathan Majors was quite powerful and striking in it. The others, very bland. So much special effects couldn't make up for it being soulless.
I was hoping the reviews were way off, but not so...
I won't give it a second shot.
Cyrano (2021)
Better than I imagined!
I was pleasantly surprised - this is way better than the trailer suggests. It's a period musical drama. So well done - a beautiful, whimsical love story with its share of action, grit and sadness. Peter Dinklage is 🎯 in it, even though he doesn't have a great singing voice. This is way more palatable for me than the Lin-Manuel Miranda musical theatre fare. 8/10 🎭 🎥 🍿 👏🏾👏🏾
House of Gucci (2021)
The lowball soapy route was taken...
This is more like a telenovela - really over acted. Seems like each actor is vying for an Oscar nomination rather than trying to balance out as an ensemble cast. The accents are comical.
The story is heavily over-dramatised too. The first half is quite slow, focusing on character establishment. The second half is mayhem, focusing on the fall of the marriage and the family stake in the empire.
It's entertaining but won't leave a mark as serious a film as Ridley Scott intended. The emphasis veered far too much towards being a DRAMAtisation of the story. I wish they took a similar stance to Tom Ford's direction in A Single Man - this too had the potential for simple class, style, cinematography, subtle drama and tension. Alas the lowball soapy route was taken.
Breach (2020)
Promising Initial Story but so badly done
Awful plot & acting - it just fell apart. Really poor. What a waste!
Aerials (2016)
So bad, it's good!
I enjoyed this because it is so bad. The whole thing from top to bottom-story, dialogue, visual effects, sound effects and most of all the diabolical acting. But it was a compelling watch for me! I kept laughing at how bad each scene was and wondering if it was a weird attempt at satire, only to realise it was as serious about its intentions as hell!
Probably one of the worst films I've ever seen, which oddly made it hilariously good to watch!!! Legend!!!
