Bombay Talkies (2013)
A bouquet full of disrespect towards Indian Cinema.
This is what happens when a handful of commercial film maker tries to make an art film. While they try to break barrier and usher themselves in a new path they find that they are not prepared to embark on it.
For instance, take Karan Johar. Predictably, he find himself making a film portraying the injustices met to the gay community. While his characters screams that they are not 'chakka' they behave as characters with loose moral fibre. Just because someone is gay we can't expect him to ruin other's life to win a man. If he had tried to win a girl instead it would have been the same old Hindi movie formula. Is this what expected as a milestone film?
In fact, none of the stories stand tall except the Anurag Kashyap and Dibaker Banerji one. In fact, Banerji has done a commendable job of adapting the story from a typical Calcutta household to a rustic Mumbai life. (story by Satyajit Ray).
But, despite all those sincere efforts the cinema has gone really ashtray. Note, the typical Bollywood song at the end was absolute unnecessary.
Brave (2012)
Honestly... this movie bagged an Oscar!!!!
A highly predictable, high melodramatic storyline, which you have seen/read in a thousand TV shows/books . Standard quality animation (why should anyone be bothered about the hair?), blackish background which makes the movie thoroughly dull. Pixar has lost its touch and Disney is suffering from a serious lack of innovation. In fact, after watching this movie I am convinced that Disney is now fit to enter the business of Indian or Bengali daily soaps.
Predictably, again Disney is obsessed with wronged princesses, funny horses (here not so funny) and evil witches (those poor ladies, who in most of the cases turn out to be the heroin's mother). Thank god there is at least no prince charming in this movie. The girl seems obnoxious, selfish. Moreover, what makes this movie a particular horror show is the way Disney haplessly try to incorporate scenes with underlying sexual meanings. And those series of pink butts is quite disgusting.
Overall, I do not believe this movie is ever going to please a sensible person / Scottish person. Utterly forgettable movie. Not funny, not tragic, does not inspire any type of emotion excepts irritation. Perhaps just one time watch.
@Pixer/Disney, Why not make a male-oriented movie for a change?
Tees Maar Khan (2010)
Please carry pain-killer with you
Really don't know how to break this. But, please avoid going to cinema hall to watch TMK.
Farah's comedies are typically brainless. So, I hadn't had much expectations. But this time, I really believe, that the opening credits should have contained one fair warning, 'Hazardous to health'.
Comedy cinemas deserve appreciation, as it involves a lot of hard work from the actors. But, a mindless comedy such as TMK needs to be thrown out to garbage boxes. As a cine-goer I prefer a cinema, which has a soul. A bunch of badly packed adult jokes and a lot of overacting, mixed together can not be classified as a cinema, forget comedy. Sorry Farah, sorry Akshay, a thumbs down from me.
P.S. I was thinking to rate the cinema with 0 stars. But found out, that was not possible in this site.
